Chapter 154 CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FOUR: LOVED FUTURE.
ZARA
“We would need a wheelchair as well."
The nurse looked at me and then at Aiden, who was sitting on the bed. Her brow rose, and her lips pouted.
“My love, we don't need one." Aiden said it before she could tell me I was overreacting.
“We do," I said with a nod. “Please get us one."
“Right away, ma'am," she said before leaving us in the room.
I was folding up the last of the clothes in the room. Aiden grabbed my hand and pulled me closer. “You know I don't need one."
“You do," I said with a nod. I wasn't ready to explain myself or go back and forth with him.
“I was shot in the arm, and the doctor said that..."
“Oh my goodness!” I exclaimed and dropped my head. “You were shot in the arm. What am I supposed to do about this?”
“I will take the chair," he said before I could go into full sobbing.
I raised my head; a smile of winning crept on. “Better”
‘For the next two weeks, you aren't allowed to lift a single finger. I am going to be taking care of you."
Leo was pushing Aiden in while I was holding onto the small bag from the hospital. He stopped in the middle of the room and turned to me.
“Do you need me to do anything, ma'am?" he asked. I looked around.
"No, Leo, I can take it from here," I said, gesturing to the room.
He looked to Aiden for permission. He nodded and shooed him away with his hand. “I will take my leave now." He bowed and disappeared.
The house suddenly felt bigger than ever. Aiden grabbed my hand and pulled me into his lap.
"Aiden," my voice was thinned out as I plopped into his lap.
“You are pregnant… You shouldn't be on your feet for too long," he said, wrapping his arms around me and burying his face into my shoulders.
The feeling of knowing that Rylan was finally gone, and we could breathe the right way now. I put my hand on his hair and ran my finger through the strands.
“I think I need to get started on the nursery as soon as…” He slowly lifted his head to meet my eyes.
It was almost as if he were allergic to sitting still.
"...I will get started on it after I have fully recovered," he finished instead.
“You got hurt; you should listen to me," I said, slapping his arm gently. He groaned slightly, and I rolled my eyes. “I thought it no longer hurt."
“It does," he pouted. He raised his hand to my face. “Kiss it to make it better." He wiggled it in my face.
I took his hand and pressed my lips against his upper arm. “Does it feel better now?”
“I think you need to do it again," he murmured. I planted multiple kisses before I pulled away.
“It should be better now."
He wrapped his hand around my waist before I pulled away. His grip tightened as I tried to pull away.
"Aiden, what are you doing? The baby is still…”
“I am just holding my wife," he said, blinking rapidly. He tilted his head, and his gaze on my face made my cheeks blaze. I was sure I was blushing redder than normal.
What the hell was I thinking? ‘Blame it on the pregnancy hormones,' my mind screamed.
“What were you thinking?” he asked, feigning innocence.
"Nothing!" I almost screamed as I shot out of his arms. They fell to his side, and a sly smile climbed his face. I pressed both hands to my face, trying to cool it down.
It made no sense that this man, with whom I was having a child, still managed to make me blush like it was the first time I was talking to him.
"Let's get you into the room." I pushed his chair towards our room.
Aiden had fallen asleep when Alexander came to visit. I had only seen him once while Aiden was admitted. He had come once and said a few words to his son.
“I am glad you both came out of it all alive," he said when I put a cup of tea in front of him.
“You won't have to worry about Rylan for the rest of your life," he said, his hand curling over the handle of the cup. “He is gone forever."
I nodded. I knew it already, but it still felt good to hear it being affirmed time after time.
He dropped a file on the table. He nodded and gestured for me to check it. I pulled it open, and a share-transfer agreement stared at me.
“Alex… what is this?” I gasped in confusion.
He pulled a pen from his inner pocket and pressed it onto the open file in front of me.
“I am already an old man. I don't need much. I just need you and your child to be safe," he murmured.
“But this…”
“I don't know how to provide any other form of security besides this," he cut me off.
He shifted in his seat and coughed. He slowly lifted the cup to his mouth and took a sip.
“With this, no one can ever threaten your position in the Knight family."
I closed the file and pushed it back to him. “I don't need this. I have the Crawford group," I said, shaking my head.
"It's not for you." His eyes dropped to my stomach and then dragged back to my face. "It's for the children. As many as you want to have."
“But it is in my name."
“For now," he shrugged. “Keep it in your name for now, and once they are of age, distribute it as you please."
We fell silent. He stood there sipping gently on the tea. After a while, he pulled out his phone and dialled a number. “Bring it in."
Four men stepped in with bags.
“I bought them," he said before I could ask. “I had no idea what to buy, so I got it all. Just let me know if there is anything you dont like or anything I missed so I can…”
“This is too much," I gasped, staring at the bags. At least ten of them.
"It's nearly not enough." He stood up and took a bag from one of the men. He dropped it on the table and pushed it closer.
“This was not bought." He pulled out a wooden toy and stretched it towards me. “Aiden used to play with this as a kid. I am sure your kid would love it."
My finger brushed against the neatly crafted wooden block. I dropped it on the table and stood up. I pushed myself into his arms, forcing a hug.
"Thank you," I murmured when I was not sure of what else to say.
“You don't have to thank me," he said, frozen with his hands by his side.
I pulled away and took a step back.
“I might have created a monster in Rylan and a reclusive child in Aiden, but your children would be different."
He fiddled with his finger and cleared his throat.
“I know this because they would have all the love in the world."
My hand grabbed my stomach as I nodded. He was tight. They weren't here yet, and they were already this loved.
“You are right."
