Chapter 88 - The Alpha's Mark

Chapter 88 - The Alpha's Mark
Hendrick did not move immediately.

Cassie's request hung in the air like a prayer, like an invitation to something sacred, and it was.

His chest rose and fell slowly, heavily, tense, while his gray eyes fixed on her exposed neck.

Something primal awoke within the alpha, a hot, urgent wave that ran through his body like thunder racing through his veins.

Cassie watched him with calm patience, but her heart was beating fast. She knew the weight of this. She knew what it meant to ask an alpha to mark her, and yet, she stood before him, steady, offering all that she was.

Hendrick inhaled deeply, taking in her familiar and addictive scent. He took her face in his hands, bringing their foreheads together in a gesture of reverence.

"Cassie..." his voice was deep, choked. "Are you sure?"

She nodded, without hesitation.

"I want this. I want you."

The wolf inside him roared with relief.

Hendrick guided her closer, as if he was afraid she would disappear if she moved even a step away.

Cassie followed him without resistance, sitting on his strong thighs when the alpha pulled her by the waist.

The silence inside was almost ritualistic, made up of slow breaths and glances that said more than any word would dare to say.

"I've waited so long to hear that from you," he murmured, rubbing his thumb against her chin, as if he needed to memorize every inch of her skin. "But... you need to understand one thing first."

Cassie tilted her head, attentive.

"There's no going back," he whispered, his gaze tinged with intense silver. "The mark... it binds me to you. And it binds you to me. I will feel everything. Your fear, your joy, your pain. You will be my companion before the moon."

Cassie softly touched his chest, over his racing heart.

"I am already yours, Hendrick. All that's missing is for you to feel me."

The alpha closed his eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath. When he opened them, there was no more doubt. There was decision. There was destiny.

Hendrick slid his fingers up the back of her neck, guiding her slowly, curving Cassie's face with a delicacy that contrasted with the contained strength in every muscle of his body.

His touch was trembling. Not from fear, but from intensity. The wolf vibrated beneath his skin, so close to the surface that Cassie felt the heat rising from his body to hers.

"I will be gentle," he warned, his voice low, hoarse. "But I can't promise the wolf won't emerge."

He was warning her. But Cassie already knew; she wanted to know all of him.

"I know, Hendrick." She smiled faintly. "I want all sides of you."

The alpha kissed her before he could even think.

It was a kiss that started soft but quickly deepened, as if his soul were trying to reach hers through his mouth.

Cassie held his face, returning the kiss with the same hunger.

He carefully laid her down on the mattress, as if she were made of something too precious to be touched in a rush. Cassie gasped as he slowly removed her robe, exposing her skin in the soft light of the room. Hendrick paused, breathing against her shoulder.

"You are beautiful," he whispered, almost sacredly. "My Cassie..."

She stroked his face, feeling the warrior braids she had made, the contrast between strength and vulnerability in the alpha's eyes.

"Come," she pleaded.

And Hendrick did.

His touch was warm, firm, careful. There was no rush, no brutality.

There was reverence.

He explored every line of her body as if trying to engrave her in his memory, as if every part were a secret he needed to unravel with his mouth and hands.

It felt like the first time; it was different from before. Perhaps it was the anticipation of what they were about to do, but it wasn't just sex, it wasn't just another moment of passion like the ones they had shared before.

Hendrick was courting her, claiming her.

Cassie arched beneath him, moaning his name softly, and Hendrick felt the wolf squirm inside his chest upon hearing her. His breathing became heavy, erratic.

"Cassie..." He slid his lips down her neck to the point where the skin was thinnest. "If I mark you now... you will feel me inside you for the rest of your life."

Her faint blush turned into determination.

"I want this. I want to feel you. I want to be yours."
Hendrick lightly bit his own lip, filled with desire. He kissed her again, deep, until Cassie gasped with the intensity. The heat between them increased too quickly, and yet, there was tenderness in everything.

When he made love to her, Hendrick held back to the edge of what was bearable, burying his face in Cassie's neck, breathing in her scent as if it were the only thing capable of keeping him anchored to the world.

Cassie held him tight, trembling, calling his name between gasps that destroyed any remaining trace of logic.

The alpha moved his hips slowly, then more firmly, guiding her to the point where she was shaking entirely with pleasure.

"I love you," he murmured against her ear, between movements. "I love you, Cassie... My woman..."

The words entered her skin like fire, making her body writhe beneath his.

"Hendrick... I..." But the phrase dissolved into a moan as pleasure overtook her.

The alpha held her waist, pressing her body against his, and together they reached their climax in a wave that seemed to take the air from both of them.

Cassie was shaking, weak, breathing rapidly.

Hendrick didn't get off her immediately. He held her there, his body pressed against hers, as if it were a way to keep the world out. He kissed her forehead, her nose, her cheeks wet with tears.

"Now..." he murmured, his voice deep, full of raw emotion. "Now I can mark you."

Her heart pounded.

Cassie turned her face, exposing her neck again.
Hendrick placed his hand on the back of her neck, tilting her head with tenderness. The silver gaze burned, but it wasn't savagery. It was love.

"It will hurt a little," he warned, even knowing she had already accepted.

"I trust you."

These four words destroyed any remaining restraint.

Hendrick lowered his face, touching his lips to the exact spot. Cassie closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of his breath.

Then came the bite.

It wasn't brutal, it wasn't violent. It was deep, firm enough to pierce the skin, but delicate enough to demonstrate love.

Cassie gasped as the power coursed through her body like a hot wave.

It was as if something awoke inside her. Something ancient, wild.

Hendrick held tighter, the wolf emerging in a low, possessive, but contained growl. The mark stung, and at the same time, it pulsed with a strange, warm, and enveloping pleasure.

He licked the marked skin with devotion, sealing the bond.

And then it happened.

The connection.

First, it came as a whisper. A soft touch to her emotions. Then, it expanded like a flame gaining strength, crossing both their chests.

Cassie gasped sharply.

She felt it.

She felt his love. Deep, limitless, desperately sincere. She felt the ancient fear, the insecurity, the fierce desire to protect her.

She felt his soul opening for the first time.

"Hendrick..." she gasped, tears streaming uncontrollably.

The alpha was trembling too. He held her, pulled her to his chest, bringing their foreheads together.

"Are you feeling it?" he whispered, almost voiceless. "Are you... are you feeling what I feel?"

Cassie nodded, sobbing.

"It's so strong..." She pressed her hand to his chest. "It's you... everything you keep hidden... everything you are..."

Hendrick closed his eyes, more emotional than he had ever allowed himself to be. His body still vibrated with the wolf, but now it was his soul asserting itself.

"I love you so much," he murmured, his voice cracking. "So much it hurts, Cassie..."

She slid her hand across his face, wiping away his tears with her thumb.

"I feel it. I feel everything. And I love you too."

They stayed like that for long minutes, embraced, breathing together, while the newly formed bond burned softly and constantly, like a lit fireplace deep in their chests.

When Hendrick laid her down again and pulled her into his arms, it was no longer an alpha embracing his beloved.

It was a companion embracing his mate.

Cassie rested her head on his chest, listening to the strong heart that now beat in sync with hers.
"It's us now," she whispered.

Hendrick kissed the top of her head, his fingers intertwined with hers as if he would never let go.

"It is," he replied. "Forever."

And Cassie felt it. She felt the absolute truth of it burning between their joined souls.
