Chapter 164 This Sibling Relationship, She Doesn't Care
Lily threw David over her shoulder and slammed him straight onto the ground.
Her moves were so smooth and fluid that almost everyone was caught off guard!
It wasn't until David was lying on the ground, his face pale with pain, that everyone realized what had happened!
Sophie snapped back to reality and rushed to David's side. "David, are you okay?"
David coughed and waved his hand, but he clearly wasn't okay.
Sophie looked up. "Lily, how could you hit someone?"
Lily dusted off her hands. "Didn't he attack first?"
She'd been training hard in boxing for this very moment!
Sophie was at a loss for words. "But he's your brother! You could seriously hurt him doing that."
Delbert couldn't help but speak up. "If Lily didn't do that, should she just stand there and take a beating?"
Her colleague also couldn't stand it anymore. "Listen Sophie, the person who attacked first is the one in the wrong! If this went to the police, Lily would be acting in self-defense!
Now I understand why she'd rather work than be a rich young lady.
If I didn't know better, I'd think Lily was your family's servant!"
Sophie was left speechless. All she could do was try to win David's favor.
Right now, David was the only person she could rely on.
Lily looked at David sitting on the ground. "I'm not that kid who just stands there and lets you hit me anymore."
And she wasn't that girl who could be controlled by money or manipulated by family ties anymore!
David felt completely humiliated. "Lily, you'll regret this!"
"I already regret it - regret not waking up to this sooner!"
As Lily was about to leave, Austin blocked her path. "I was actually trying to stop Sophie. I got caught up in what she was saying, too!"
"Caught up? You probably thought the same thing!" Lily said seriously.
They wanted her to be obedient, to clip her wings!
What kind of brother does that?
Austin felt too guilty to look Lily in the eye and anxiously explained, "I didn't!"
"But you still did it, didn't you? Get out of my way!" Lily walked away without looking back.
Austin watched her retreating figure, suddenly feeling unsteady on his feet.
He turned to stare at Sophie, his eyes looking somewhat frightening.
Sophie noticed Austin's gaze and shrank back, crouching beside David. "David, let me take you to the hospital."
David's face was ashen. Today, he'd been completely defeated by Lily!
To him, this was utter humiliation!
He looked at his secretary and said, "Find a way to blacklist Maple Leaf Corporation. It's just a small company from Imperial City - I want to make sure they can't survive in Empire City!"
"David, isn't that going too far?"
"That's my business!" After David said this, he started coughing, his chest was tight, and breathing was difficult. His ribs were probably fractured.
He hadn't expected Lily's fighting skills to be so good!
Sophie kept her head down, not daring to look Austin in the eye, and left with David.
Austin stood there alone. He wanted to cry, but couldn't!
He'd clearly wanted to improve his relationship with Lily!
But he'd messed it all up again.
Only then did Austin remember what Michael had said - not to trust Sophie's words.
But he'd just fallen for Sophie's trick!
He deserved this!
Now, Michael's project had lost its bidding qualification, half his fortune was gone - all because of him!
Lily went to Maple Leaf Corporation with her colleague.
Delbert was still comforting her. "Family like that isn't worth keeping. You can live well on your own."
Her colleague felt a bit embarrassed. "Sorry, I shouldn't have said those things about you earlier. I apologize!"
She'd thought Lily was just a rich young lady who'd left home in a fit of anger, but she hadn't expected Lily to have it so rough!
"I'm used to it. They're the ones who need to pay the price now, not me." Thinking about the Roberts family's expressions earlier, Lily's mood improved quite a bit.
"Lily, I heard you did really well today." Eric stood at the office door, smiling at her.
Lily walked over and looked past Eric to see the man sitting on the sofa.
Was Dennis here too?
Eric stepped aside and made a welcoming gesture. "Come in. Let's put everything on hold to congratulate this brilliant woman on her outstanding performance today!"
Lily walked into the office and smiled. "The Roberts Group has lost its bidding qualification. This time we're sure to win."
"Lily, that shoulder throw was so cool."
Lily was stunned. "How do you know about that?"
"I wasn't there in person, but I have eyes and ears everywhere."
Lily noticed Dennis looking at her and answered, "I've been practicing boxing lately!"
Dennis spoke up. "Where do you practice?"
"At the gym. I bought quite a few sessions!"
Dennis remembered she had indeed mentioned going to the gym before, but he hadn't realized she wasn't just working out.
Lily changed the subject. "Should we have the lawyers handle the Roberts Group stealing our company's ideas?"
"Absolutely, but also congratulations - you're now our company's youngest partner!" Eric handed Lily a document. "Take a look. If you have any requirements about benefits, feel free to bring them up!"
Lily glanced at the contract. "You're making me a partner?"
Eric said, "That's right. After your brilliant performance this time, big companies will definitely try to poach you. I need to lock you down first!"
Lily was somewhat surprised.
After reading the document, she signed it. She wasn't losing out on this deal.
Eric casually handed it to Dennis. "Alright, let's all have a meeting together."
Lily saw Dennis take her contract and stand up to go to the conference room with them.
Was he going to the meeting too?
Dennis sat in the seat next to Eric, clearly holding a significant position.
Lily sat with the technical department people, right across from Dennis.
She hadn't expected Dennis to attend the meeting.
Delbert lowered his voice. "Lily, why do you keep staring at Mr. Gonzalez?"
Only then did Lily snap out of it. She quickly looked away, her face feeling a bit warm.
She explained, "I was thinking about something. I just zoned out."
Lily looked at Delbert. "You call him Mr. Gonzalez?"
"Yeah, he seems to be a company consultant. His identity is pretty mysterious, but he's not a company shareholder. He has a good relationship with Mr. Murphy."
A consultant?
Lily looked up and saw Dennis sitting lazily in his chair, holding the contract she'd just signed.
His slender fingers rested on the contract, tapping rhythmically.
After the meeting ended, everyone dispersed, leaving just the three of them.
Lily hesitated before saying, "You've been on this business trip for so long - won't it be a problem not going to work at the school?"
"I resigned." Dennis held her contract, his finger pressing on her name, slowly rubbing it.
Why did he suddenly decide to change jobs and come to Empire City?
It seemed that in her past life, Dennis hadn't worked as a school doctor for long either - he should have also resigned and started a business at Maple Leaf Corporation.
Thinking about this, Lily realized that Dennis's life trajectory hadn't actually changed.
She was the one who had changed.
She couldn't help but think about the account Dennis used to play games. If she hadn't met Dennis in the infirmary, would he still have used that alternate account to play games?
Probably not very likely.
So the person playing that account in her past life was most likely Mark!
No wonder when she suggested meeting in person, that person always refused - he didn't want to reveal his identity!
Lily gathered her things and left Maple Leaf Corporation.
But just as she reached the roadside, a car stopped, and a man in a suit got out. "Ms. Roberts, I'm Geraldo McGinnis, Mr. David Roberts's secretary. Regarding what happened earlier, he asked me to pick you up and take you home to talk in person."
Pick her up to go home and talk in person?
She didn't have a home anymore.
Lily sneered. "Not going."
But two more people got out of the car and blocked Lily's path.
"Pardon the offense, Ms. Roberts, but you must come with us."
