Chapter 89 Chapter eighty-Nine

Chapter 89 Chapter eighty-Nine
Elena's POV
A sweet smile slowly spread across my face seeing the messenger's ID without thinking, I unlocked my phone, \[sweet dreams!\] Just two words, two simple words from Nikolai, despite everything that had happened between us he didn't want to go to bed without checking on me, I knew he might want to call but was afraid, I wouldn't take his calls, so he probably option for this, my heart softened, I read the message again, then again then a tiny laugh escape my lips. "you are so easy to love." I whispered to the empty room. I should still be angry with him, I had every reason to be for rejecting me for trying to make me feel like I wasn't in my right frame of mind but no, I can't stay mad at him, even if he hadn't send this message I think I would had still forgive him but those two words had somehow warned the ached inside my chest, he care maybe he was just too stubborn to admit it but he care and he love me.  But just afraid of what Rafael will do to him if he found out he was with his woman. I close my eyes, remembering the way he had looked at me earlier that night when I wore that gown, the way he had tried to stop whatever we were doing, the pain in his eyes when I told him to go away, that I didn't want to see him till I left. The more I remember the way his lips dance against mine, the way he had suck my tits, my hand subconsciously moves to my bosom. I pressed hard on it, 'Seriously now, Elena, you are going to touch yourself while thinking about Nikolai.' A voice echoes in my head.
"Fuck..." I curse forcing my hand off my bosom, trying to keep my thoughts away from. Nikolai, because I know, if I don't, I might go back to touching myself while imagining him, but the more I tried to forget Nikolai, the more my thoughts drifted back to him, his face, his lovely smile. Then I remembered the bracelet, my fingers instinctively reached toward my wrist, and the small velvet box he had tried to give me flashed through my mind. I had seen him buy them a few days ago, but back then, I had convinced myself it was for Gianna, because he wasn't even paying attention to me that day, so why would I think he would buy that for me, but now I knew better. It had always been meant for me. "You idiot!" I muttered to myself, then laughed, "No.. " I pulled the blanket over my head, "I'm the idiot not him." I should have accepted it, even if I wanted to yell at him, even if I had been mad at him, I should have taken it, that would be my first gift from him. "Should I just ask him to give it tomorrow?" I asked no one in particular. While a smile lingered on my lips, "Elena, you are going insane." I tossed on the bed, tried to catch some sleep, but every time my eyes shut, his face invaded my mind's eye. Eventually, exhaustion hit me, and I didn't know when sleep finally claimed me, and the next thing I heard was a soft knock stirring me awake before I could barely sleep for three long hours. I blinked sleepily, while the morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, oh, it was finally daybreak. I muttered, still too tired to stand up. It's always like this on a New Year's morning; you never get enough sleep. The knock came up. "Nikolai..." His name slipped from my lips before I was fully awake. Without thinking, I threw the blanket off my body, hurried out of my bed, and rushed toward the door. A sweet smile spread across my face, maybe he is here to call me for breakfast. Or maybe, we will be eating outside. I really wanted to be alone with him before I left. I pulled the door open without hesitation, with a wide smile on my face.
"Happy New Year!" The smile on my face faded away quickly, the moment I saw it was Rafael standing there carrying a breakfast tray.
"What are you doing here?" I asked. I’m surprise he was back, and he stared at me.
"Aren't you happy to see me?"
"Oh..." I forced another smile. "Happy New Year!" I muttered trying to sound normal.
"You look disappointed."
"What?" My eyes snapped to him.
"Were you expecting someone else?"
"No," I shook my head too fast, the same way as the lie left my lips so quickly. "What are you doing here?" I asked, and he lifted the tray proudly.
"I thought I would surprise my beautiful fiancée with breakfast." He stepped forward before I could object, "Don't you want me in?" My eyes snapped to him.
"Oh..." My lips parted but I couldn't find the right words, so I moved aside. "Come in," I said while Rafael stepped forward. Immediately, he entered my room. My eyes drifted down the hallway, hoping I could see Nikolai, but it was empty. A strange disappointment settled over me.
"Looking for someone?" Rafael asked, and I quickly shook my head.
"No." I closed the door and followed him inside, he placed the tray on the table.
"Sit," I obeyed without arguing. I wanted to pick the spoon, but he stopped me. "nah! This year," he said dramatically, "I get the honor of feeding you, your first breakfast." I manage a polite smile.
"If that makes you happy."
"It does," he said dramatically, acting too caring, for someone who was just in another woman's hands a few hours ago. He lifted a spoon to my lips. I accepted it quietly. The room was awkwardly silent. None of us said a word. I just let him feed me. When the silence became deafening, I tried starting a conversation with him, "How was your business meeting?" He frowned,
"What?"
"The business trip you went on." For a split second, confusion crossed his face, then recognition dawned on him.
"Oh right... Yes," he cleared his throat, "it went well." His answer sounded forced. "In fact..." He launched into a long explanation about negotiation, investors and how the deal would benefit the company, every sentence felt rehearsed, every smile looked fake, he was lying again, the realization hurt more than I wanted to admit, yeah, I know he didn't go to any business meeting he was with Arabella all through but it's still hurt that he would cheat on me and still look me in the face and lied, tears threatened to gather in my eyes, how could he lie so effortlessly? "Elena?" He called, and I blinked, "Are you alright?" I nodded quickly
"Sure," I forced a smile, "my father called." His attention shifted immediately.
"Did you tell him that I wasn't with you?" I forced a smile.
"Should I have?"
"No," he shook his head "what did he say?"
"He said, he will be arriving today." Rafael smiled.
"That is good news, so you are leaving with him?" My eyes narrowed I stared at him.
"Does my being here make things difficult for you?" I found myself asking, he forced an awkward smile, taking my hands.
"You know that is not true, in fact, this year we should..."
"Father wants both of us to attend a family party at my grandfather's estate tonight." I interrupted him, not wanting to hear any bullshit about having our wedding this year.
"I would love to and..." Before he could say anything else, his phone rang, and he glanced at the screen. "Oh, it's father." He said, "I should take this." He smiled before leaning down to kiss my forehead, "You should shower and meet me downstairs. I will be waiting for you, my love." I gave him a forceful smile before he turned around and left. When he left, I just remained seated for several moments. I just stared at the door he had walked through. After some time, I got up and walked into the bathroom, took a quick shower, and walked downstairs.
When I finally entered the living room, Don Alessandro, their father, was there with Nikolai discussing business. My eyes immediately wandered from them, hoping I could see the one person I wanted to see. And there Nikolai stood near the window, flipping through several documents. I smiled instinctively. He looked at me, our eyes met for one brief second before he looked away. My smile faded; he hadn't even smiled back at me. "Come here, love." Rafael patted the seat beside him. I forced my feet to move towards him.
"Happy New Year, Uncle Alessandro."
"Oh dear, how are you?" Alessandro smiled warmly at me.
"I am fine, sir. Happy New Year!" I said again.
"Happy New Year, dear, you look lovely."
"Thank you, sir." I sat beside Rafael while the three men continued discussing contracts and shipments, and I remained quiet, listening and forcing my attention to remain on Rafael because I wouldn't dare look in the direction of Nikolai. Suddenly, I felt Rafael's hand wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer to him. Before I could react, he had lifted me from the chair slightly and pulled me into his lap. A soft gasp left my lips, while my eyes widened. "Rafael..." I whispered, "What are you doing?" I tried to stand, to get off his lap, but Rafael's grip tightened.
"Stay..." He leaned close to my ear, "Father doesn't mind, he already considers you family. He knows you are my wife." His lips brushed my ear, I stiffened. "Relax," he whispered while his hand moved dangerously against my waist, then he kissed the side of my neck, every muscle in my body tense
"Rafael..." I whispered urgently, my eyes went to Uncle Alessandro, but he wasn't paying attention to us, either he chose not to show he noticed us, or he wasn't just paying attention. "Please stop."
"Don't you miss me?" He whispered, his breath fanning my earlobe, before he tilted my chin toward him, his fingers brushed my lips, "don't you?" Just before his lips reached mine, the room seemed to freeze, an overwhelming pressure filled the air, then bang.
"Enough!" A fist slammed into the table with enough force to send documents scattering across the polished surface, Rafael's body jolted, my heart nearly jumped from my chest, while Alessandro eyes tilted to Nikolai whose chest rise and fall rapidly, his jaw was clenched so tightly I thought his teeth might crack for a terrifying moment he looked less like a man and more like a predator barely holding himself together, a low dangerous growl vibrates from deep inside his chest, my brows knitted, did Nikolai just growl like a wolf? Nikolai inhaled sharply. "Sorry." His voice was cold, controlled, but his eyes found mine; the intensity of his stare burned straight through me, hurt, jealousy, anger, and regrets. Every emotion I had wanted him to admit was written plainly across his face without another word, he turned and strode out of the room, then slammed the door behind him. Alessandro frowned.
"What is gotten into him?" Rafael merely shrugged
"No idea." But I knew this was my fault, I had pushed him too far. It was I who had awakened the beast in him.
"Excuse me," I stood abruptly, "I will get some water." Neither Rafael nor uncle Alessandro questions me, Rafael only nodded in approval, I hurried into the hallway, my pulse racing as I walked towards the kitchen, before I could take another step, a string hands suddenly wrapped around my wrist, I gasped ready to shout when his hands, gagged my lips, and in one Swift motion, I was pulled into the nearest room, the door clicked shut behind us, I looked up and found myself staring directly into Nikolai's storm-filled eyes. "What..." He smashed his lips against mine before I could finish.
