Chapter 43 All Through Life
Chapter 43 All Through Life
"More wine, Miss Clarina"
"Alright. Pour it in." I sighed when she answered in a nice and calm manner. Usually, her tone is just mean and proud.
"So, you're allowed to drink?" Anamaria teased her.
"Shut up. I can do whatever I want. I'm not in my parent's house anymore." the younger retorted. There she goes again.
I left their long table and proceeded to the counter. The girls are just having a simple welcome celebration. Light meal and drinks. Fancy clothes. Soft jazz music. Warm laughter. I guess the girls are not that close friends yet. It's just the beginning after all.
I simply ran the back of my hand on my forehead to wipe the little droplets of sweats.
"What are you doing? You're supposed to be hiding in your room, not handing wine to those spoiled girls." Lila whispers while scolding me.
"Do you wanna be left here alone? Look around, Lila. You cannot do this, not on your own." I insisted.
"You don't have to worry anymore. By tomorrow, the manor will have more servants." she answered and continued on designing another plate for dessert.
"That's so sweet of you, Lil. Thanks..." I surrendered and wore off my apron.
"Now, go on. Go on, he's waiting for you." she teased and smiled genuinely.
I nodded my head and started running towards his floor, along the forbidden wing, and shoved my knuckles on his door, as if I was in hurry.
"Constantine?" I opened the door before he could even respond.
I stick my head inside and searched for him. He is standing by the window, observing the moon. "You're late..." I heard him say.
"I'm sorry. I had to help in the banquet." I explained and got in, shutting the door behind me.
The loud bang made me gasp and when I looked back again at him, he is already standing in front of me. We are only inches apart. I could hear his animalistic growl. Like a predatory lion who found its defenseless prey.
"H-Have you heard from Guillaume?" I stammered, throwing away the fact that we are alone together.
He is towering over me. I slowly raise my head up to meet his gaze. "No. But there is another news from the town. Said there was a brutal killing." he puffed a breath like the information was just nothing.
My face crumpled. "What? Where?!" I panicked.
"At the port. A man." he simply said and pulled me closer by the waist.
"D-Did Guillaume do it?" I uttered and grabbed his sleeves.
He smirked. "I do not like another man looking at you." I did not understand at first but then his answer broke the silence. I was not able to deliver a respond. All I do is breathe shakily and whimper. "W-Why did you do?" I could not believe him.
"I already told you. I do not like the way he treated you. He deserved it." he carressed my long wavy hair and tucked some strands behind my ear.
"The boatman?" I sniffled.
My heart felt heavy and uncomfortable but I could not cry a river. I could not afford to get mad and walk away from him. Instead, I shoved my face on his chest and inhaled the fabrics of his clothes.
"I am sorry. I could not control my temper. But if I am lucky enough, I would bring that man back to life again just so I could kill him over and over again." he whispered while tugging my hair between his cold fingers.
His low unforgiving voice sent shivers down my spine. My body twitched, his hands greeted my curves down my ass, groping them cheeks.
"Don't do this... we gotta talk." I uttered while catching my breath.
"There is nothing to talk about, Gertrude. I have done it." he said like a warning.
"But what if someone saw you? You'll be in terrible danger, I'm telling you!" I stepped back, distancing myself from him. But he kept on pulling me closer, locking me in his arms.
"You're impossible, you know that?" I tried to fight back, loosening his grip but he is way too strong and determined.
"And you, Gertrude, is a kind heart. Why are you so concern? This is not the first time I killed a human." he spat out.
I banged on his chest, almost tearing up. "Because I care about you! This may be a small town but there are eyes everywhere!" I hit him on his chest several times with all my might but he did not even flinch. I could feel his stare piercing through my vulnerability while I keep on throwing silly tantrums. I know he is listening but never will obey me.
"Do not protect me. That is my duty to you." he answered and stepped closer, making me step back.
"What if you couldn't protect me anymore? I won't be by your side for all times, Constantine..." I hesitated and wrapped my arms around his neck.
He keeps on pacing eagerly and closer, so I keep on stepping back as well until I hit the bricked wall. I winced upon feeling the slightest abrasion of the surface on my sensitive skin.
"What are you proving, Gertrude?" he leaned in, testing me.
"Turn me like you. Please..." I whispered, with a little trembling. My lips almost touching his ears.
I heard him chuckled and cleared his throat. "Then that would not be protecting you. That is destroying you." he explained.
"No, you don't understand. Guillaume--- he gets to me... He stalks like a fucking madman, a predator... I am tired of living in fear, Constantine." I confessed, fingers twiddling through his hair.
My breath hitched, waiting for his positive response. I slowly crawled my fingers on his neck, pleasing him. "That is not going to work for me, Gertrude." he said with a mean smile.
"Just do it... please? I won't regret it. I wanna be like you and spend all my life, all this lifetime with you." I pleaded and placed a longing kiss on his lips.
I wet mine and kissed him again. I tighten my arms around his neck and explored his mouth deeper. He groaned, his free hand landing on my thigh.
"You do not know what you are asking for, young lady. You are made for this role. Not to be a monster." he hissed.
"You are not a monster. Not in my eyes." I shook my head, catching my breath.
"You are not thinking straight, Trudy." he stopped fondling my mounds and straighten me up.
"No, you're not listening to me! I know what I'm talking about, Constantine. I can make my own decisions! I am not a child anymore." I said in anger and disappointment.
"This decision will affect your entirety. Your fate. Your appearance. Your hunger. It can kill you!" he growled and threw me on the bed.
