Chapter 26

Laura threw a half drunk beer bottle at the wall in anger and started cursing the single mother and her daughter that were trying to snatch her supposedly fiancé away from her When Mrs. Davilla, Laura’s mother heard the sound of the bottle that her daughter had thrown inside her room, she rushed inside the room and looked at her daughter worriedly "Laura dear, what is wrong?" She asked worriedly as she walked toward Laura that was sobbing on her bed "Laura" she called again because Laura didn't answer her the first time Laura looked up at her mother and sobbed harder "Mom, I'm doomed" she said when she could finally talk "No, you're not darling. What is it? What is going on?" Mrs. Melanie Davilla asked as she sat down on the bed "Jaime" Laura replied "Jaime? What about him?"

Laura showed her mother her middle finger and sobbed harder. Mrs. Melanie Davilla gasped when she saw Laura's empty middle finger "Where is your ring?" She asked "I'm so stupid" Laura cried "Where is it?"

"I threw it at Jaime because he was cheating on me and now, he doesn't want to give it back to me"

"Nonsense!!" Mrs. Melanie angrily got up and said "Is that why you're crying? You have nothing to worry about. We signed an agreement, and no one is breaching it. I will talk to your dad about this"

"No, don't"

"What do you mean? I'm going to talk to him about it"

"Mom, please don't. I will take care of this myself"

"How?"

"Don't worry about the details but you will do something for me"

"Dad, how are we celebrating this?" Kylie asked Jaime.

"How do you want us to celebrate it, daughter?" Jaime asked.

"Firstly, by telling the whole world about me and my mom and secondly, by taking us to a fancy restaurant," Kylie replied.

Olivia looked Jaime in the eyes when Kylie said this and sighed heavily.

"Is that what my little princess wants?" Jaime asked.

"Yes daddy" Kylie replied.

"Okay. Approved."

"Woohoo."

Jaime's phone rang at that moment, and he checked the caller. He looked at Olivia and said quietly "It's dad."

Olivia nodded in understanding while Kylie mouthed to Olivia "Granddad?"

"Yes" Olivia mouthed back.

"I have a granddaddy."

Jaime picked up the call in front of them and said "Dad?"

"Jaime," Seth said calmly on the phone, "Where are you?"

"Just about to leave my office," Jaime lied.

"I want to see you at my house in thirty minutes."

"Hope no problem, dad?"

"No problem. But I would like to talk to you. We've not seen each other in weeks"

"Can't it wait?"

"It can't. Thirty minutes son"

"Okay dad"

Seth hung up the phone and looked at his wife, Jaime's stepmom "Jaime will soon be here"

Jaime sighed heavily after his dad hung up the phone and looked at Kylie worriedly "I'm confused" he said "About what?" Olivia asked "I don't want to leave you guys, but dad wants to see me in his house in thirty minutes"

"It's okay" Olivia said to Jaime even though she wasn't really happy about the fact that he was leaving "You can go. We will use the time to get ready for the dinner"

"Okay" Jaime said and kissed her lightly on the lips "Can I come with you?" Kylie asked enthusiastically "Maybe next time princess" Jaime replied and walked out of the door ***

"Dad. Mom" Jaime said as he joined his parents inside their house "Jaime" Mr. and Mrs. Scott chorused "How are you doing?" Seth asked "Doing great" he replied and picked an apple from the ones on the center table. He took a bite out of the apple and looked at his father's worried face "Dad, anything wrong?" He asked "Yes," Seth replied, "Melanie called me this afternoon."

Jaime stopped chewing when he heard this and looked at his dad.

"It's about the wedding," Seth added.

Jaime sighed heavily and rested his back on the backrest before he asked, "And what did you tell her?"

"That I will talk to you today"

"Dad" he called slowly "Is there something that we can do about this whole…engagement?"

"What are you trying to say?" Mrs. Scott asked curiously.

Jaime faced her and said, "I'm thinking maybe there's something that we can do about it."

"Is there a problem son?" Mr. Scott asked.

"I think there is," Jaime replied and waited for his dad to ask him what the problem was but when he didn't ask, Jaime continued talking. "Laura and I have been having…some issues lately and a couple of days ago she threw her ring at me and told me that she was no longer interested in getting married."

"That doesn't sound like the Laura that I know," Mrs. Scott said. "I came across her yesterday at the supermarket and I was sure that I saw your ring on her finger."

Jaime's eyebrows knitted together for a microsecond when he heard this but the next second, something came to his mind. His mom might have imagined it. "You might've imagined it," he said out loud.

"I'm sure as hell that I didn't. She even talked to me about your plans for your wedding. Your stories are not adding up."

Seth looked at Jaime straight in the eyes and said as he got up, "I would like to talk to you in private, son."

"Children nowadays," Mrs. Scott said as she watched both men walk out of the sitting room.

"I want you to tell me what is going on," Seth said to Jaime when they were alone. "Nothing but the truth."

Jaime looked at the man that he respected most in his life and sighed heavily. He was scared to tell his father the truth because he had no idea what his father's reaction was going to be "I'm listening" Seth said and took Jaime back to reality "Dad…the thing is…" He trailed off "The thing is what son?"

"The thing is I'm in love with another woman" he confessed and waited for his dad to react but to his surprise, there was no reaction "Since when have you been in love with her?" Seth asked.

"Since I was young" Jaime replied truthfully "Before you came for me. I'm not sure you know this but there was this girl that I was dating before you came for me"

"Why didn't you tell me anything about her?"

"Because" he trailed off "I don't know" he shrugged "At the time, I thought…"

"You should have told me about her before we signed those contracts" Seth said worriedly.

"At the time, I had thought that I had forgotten about her but few weeks ago, I came across her and I couldn't stop myself from loving her again."

"I hate interfering in people's love life," Seth said, "meaning that I can't interfere in your love life. If that woman is truly the woman that you want to be with for the rest of your life, then so be it but…"

Jaime looked at his father nervously when he heard the last word "But what, dad?"

"But…I will give you a week to think about it. After thinking about it for a week and she is still the one that you still want to be with, then so be it. Fuck the contract"

"Like seriously dad?" Jaime asked joyfully "Anything for my son" Seth replied and patted Jaime's shoulder.

"Thank you so much, dad."

"You're welcome. But do you know why I'm doing this?"

"No" Jaime replied. "Why?" he asked.

"I will tell you some other time."
