Chapter 360 Why Must He Marry the Davis Daughter?
Chapter 360 Why Must He Marry the Davis Daughter?
Early the next morning,
Julian flew off to Africa with his assistant.
Cora found Madam Maya and made up her mind to return to the Davis family.
As soon as Lillian heard that Cora had returned to the Davis family, she couldn’t stop smiling.
"Cora, you’re really digging your own grave." She muttered to herself, "I'll just have to see how many more days you can hold out. The Davis family is about to collapse—you won’t be able to hold onto those stocks, will you?”
Her phone vibrated.
It was a message from Henry.
That idiot...he actually thought she was running the company for him.
Lillian: \[Everything's going according to plan. Once I get Cora’s shares, I’ll sleep with you.\]
Those words worked.
Henry became even more obsessed, fixating on the Davis family’s stock and planning to cash in while Julian made his acquisition bid.
As soon as Cora arrived, someone was there to pick her up at the airport.
Liam wore a dark gray trench coat. His handsome, striking figure caught everyone’s eye.
Cora hadn’t expected him to be the one picking her up.
The moment she stepped off the escalator, Liam’s eyes lit up.
Her aura was becoming more and more like Qara’s.
“You’re here.” Cora smiled. “Is everything ready?”
Liam took a step forward, reached out to take her hand, and guided her down the escalator.
Cora’s body stiffened, and she instinctively tried to pull her hand away.
But he held on tightly, leaving her no room to retreat.
"Everyone's ready. They're just waiting for you." Liam spoke softly. “Don’t be nervous. I won’t do anything to you until you’ve resolved the trouble you’re facing.”
Cora quickly looked away and lightly bit her lip. "Are you really going to honor that marriage promise? Don't you think it's unfair to you right now? I’ve already been married. I even have a child.”
"No, not at all. I’m very glad you’re back,” Liam interrupted. "Don't worry about that right now. My word has always been my bond. Until you’ve resolved those past matters, I won’t pressure you. I’ll wait right here until the day you willingly stand by my side.”
Cora took a deep breath.
"I'm not Qara..." She clenched her teeth, her voice barely audible. "I might not fall in love with you."
“I know.” Liam smiled faintly. "I've said it before: You're you, and Qara is Qara. I loved Qara in the past, but the person I love now is you, Cora.”
Cora was speechless.
"Give me a chance, and I'll show you that I'm no worse than Julian. I can do better than him.” Liam’s eyes rested on her, and he felt a faint ache in his heart. "Cora, I don't know if you believe in fate, but I do. The moment I met you, I knew I’d found my soulmate.”
Cora felt a little flustered. “Don’t say anything more.”
“All right, if you don’t want to hear it, I won’t say a word,” Liam replied. "Let's go. Everything’s ready at the Davis family ancestral hall. They’re waiting for you.”
Cora closed her eyes, followed Liam off the plane, and got into a luxury SUV heading toward the Davis family estate.
In the car, she leaned back on the seat and closed her eyes to rest.
Liam sat across from her, gazing at her.
He could clearly see the exhaustion on her face.
He also saw Julian’s actions perfectly clearly.
He’d been setting this trap for so long, waiting for this very moment.
Once news of Julian’s acquisition of the Davis family broke, Cora would certainly never forgive Julian.
That would be his moment to make his move.
After a while, Cora opened her eyes.
Liam handed her a glass of water.
"Thanks." Cora took it and drank it all in one gulp.
"Are you sure you don't need my help?" Liam asked.
"No, thanks. I can handle this on my own.” Cora's tone was firm. "Besides, this is the Davis family's business, isn't it?"
Liam nodded thoughtfully. “How long will the whole process take?”
"Three days," Cora replied, her eyes downcast. "After the ceremony, I have to go to the Davis family's secret realm to find the antidote. That'll take about three days."
"I see," Liam said, nodding with a gentle look in his eyes. "I'll be here. Call me anytime if you need me.”
Cora nodded, then suddenly remembered something and looked up at him. “Why did the Mayer family risk their lives to save the Davis family back then, even at the cost of three lives?”
"It was my great-grandmother's order. She issued a strict order: even if every last one of them died in battle, they had to ensure the safe evacuation of the entire Davis family. My grandfather’s brothers faithfully carried out the order, leading their troops in a desperate, bloody fight to the end,” Liam said calmly.
Cora’s heart gave a sharp twinge.
"My great-grandmother was also the chief of staff of a military division. Her orders were equivalent to military orders.” Liam continued, "My grandfather hasn’t forgotten her last words for a single moment. Based on his military merits, my great-grandfather could have been awarded the rank of general, but she refused. Instead, she immediately enlisted my father and several of his uncles in the army to demonstrate their resolve to remain loyal.”
