-Ciega! You've destroyed my son for three years, why don't you go to hell yet? -a sour voice came from the phone.
Albina Espina blinked moodlessly.
She was blind. Ever since she had married Umberto Santangelo three years ago, Mrs. Santangelo had never liked her and had even had it in for her. Even though they had both moved out of the Santangel Family home, Mrs. Santangel still called her every day to insult her.
Since she was Umberto's mother, for three years, Albina put up with the most unkind words. But today she didn't want to take it anymore.
-Mrs. Santangel, it is your son who proposed to marry me back then. If you have the balls, talk to him. I'd leave immediately if you could convince him to divorce me. You don't dare look for him, but you feel good about vexing me because I'm blind?
Mrs. Santangel was furious without having expected that Albina would hurl these words at her, who had been humble for three years.
As she was about to insult her, Albina heard the sound of the car from the door and hung up the call directly.
As she put the cell phone in one place, the door opened violently and the cold wind blew in mingling with snowflakes.
-Is that you, Umberto? -Albina felt a shiver and looked toward the door with withered eyes.
A tall shadow approached her.
-What are you asking me to come back for? I still have things to do at the company. Tell me what you want at once briefly," said Umberto with a cold, indifferent look.
As she could hear that Umberto was very impatient, Albina felt bad as if her heart was clogged by something. She did not understand why she had not noticed his annoyance before, although it was so noticeable.
-Umberto, we're getting a divorce!
Albina bit her lip hard and said after a long time.
Startled, Umberto looked at her and pursed his mouth without having thought that she would say this to him.
-Albina, stop talking nonsense. Take back what you said and I'll take it back as if nothing had happened.
-Umberto Santangel, do you think I'm in the mood for jokes?
Angered by Umberto's frivolous words, Albina answered him.
Angrily, she abruptly stretched out the arms of the blanket.
Albina had very white skin, which turned purplish as the cold wind blew. And what was most striking were the dense holes, which was shocking.
-I told him, "Umberto, during these three years, you have been taking me to the hospital from time to time for blood collection. I indicate to me that you do it is because you care for me, you love me and you care about me. I have never thought that you are cheating on me all the time to transfuse blood to your ex-lover because I am blind," Albina trembled as she spoke. That woman named Yolanda Carballal is so important to you for all these three years?
Seeing the traumatized arms, Umberto felt a sharp pain in his heart. But he soon recovered out of disgust.
-How do you know? Who told you?
-It doesn't matter how I know," Albina took out a document and threw it on the coffee table. This is the divorce agreement. Sign it!
Umberto approached and leafed through it. On the document, it was written that Albina would not require any property if he could divorce her.
To divorce him, Albina unexpectedly claimed nothing.
-Albina, at first I wanted to hide that from you. Now that you know, I'll tell you the truth," Umberto laughs coldly.
He approached her abruptly and clenched her jaw, looking at her pretty face and melancholic eyes.
-Three years ago, your dad drove while drunk, which left Yolanda in a vegetative state. She's been in the hospital for three years without waking up. You owe all that to her.
-No, no. My dad didn't do it. He didn't do it!
Hearing this, Albina was stunned and unconsciously replied.
Excited, Albina sounded tearful and trembled pale.
-Albina, don't play dumb. No alcohol could have been detected if I hadn't been drinking. Albina, the evidence is here, do you still want to defend your dad? How stubborn you are, blind woman! -Umberto stared at her with a baleful look- If you didn't have the same blood group as Yolanda, I'd be so disgusted just to take a look at you. All that is just a revenge, and you take it seriously? How funny!
These words made Albina totally stupefied. She stepped back a few steps and fell down because she couldn't see anything. This fall was a lot for her, who could not stand up, although she tried many times.
-Albina, you have no right to ask me for a divorce. You have to pay your father's debt and keep transfusing blood to Yolanda until she wakes up," said Umberto in a sardonic tone and looked at her coldly without wanting to help her.
Understanding that Umberto was much crueler than she imagined, Albina began to cry.
She got up slowly picking up the chair. She knew it was in disarray, though she could see nothing.
-I can transfuse his blood, but I need you to divorce me," Albina said tenaciously even though she was crying.
