Chapter 17 CHAPTER 17
"It will be better for all of us. She told me then went to talk to Talon." Better how I thought there would be less food to go around, less supplies to fix things. I did not trust any of them. I grabbed my things and moved about twenty feet from them and started my own fire. Wrapped up in my blanket and started braiding my hair. The song I was singing was not the same as the others. It was a song of battle and war.
I could feel the eyes of the new people watching me every so often. I could hear their whispers too. When I was done Kyle came and sat with me.
"Do you mind if I join you, Raven? I can't stand that bunch." He said. Sorry about being an ass when you first joined us.
"I have some new jerky I got my hands on do you want some.?" I asked. He laughed.
"You were holding out on us?" He asked with a smile.
"No, just keeping it for an emergency." I said.
"Smart girl." He said and accepted the piece of Jerky I held out to him. The rest i put back in my bag. We talked for a long time. Imara came over to us.
"It is nice seeing you both getting on together. Kyle I'm putting you in charge of keeping Raven safe, dry, and warm tonight." Imara said and walked away. I looked at Kyle.
"Don't worry your like a little sister to me now. If you're going to ask why? Imara and Talon hook up together a couple times a year."
Soon Roman came to join us he was in a mood.
"Guess it is the four of us until the Queen Bee has had enough of her toy." He grumbled.
Nigel joined us with his bags soon after.
"Raven can you do that illusion thing and make them all disappear?" he asked.
"I wish, I told him.
"At least we have fish for dinner I was not leaving them what I caught yesterday." He laughed. Then went about setting up our fire pit.
"You took the kettle and everything?" I laughed.
"What ours is ours screw them. I took all our food too. Oh, Raven I traded one of the guys a can of beans for this for you." He said. Pulling out a chocolate bar. The four of us laughed.
"No eating it until after dinner." He told me.
"It will be desert for us all." I said. Hiding it from prying eyes.
"Raven, can you give the fire a shot? The wood is damp." Nigal asked. I looked over at the other camp and then hit the wood with fire from my eyes. Our fire roared to life, and I threw another log in.
Some from the other camp saw but I did not care. Let them come near us I would bun them just as fast. Later that night Roman went into the wood and came out with logs he got Nigel to help him then he pulled a worn tarp from one of his bags. With Nigel’s help they made an encloser for us to sleep in. Imara came over with Talon and sat with us for a while. I didn't say much. Finally, they got up to leave. Imara kissed my forehead, but for the fist time I wanted to pull away from her. But resisted the urge to. We used our bags as pillows and talked into the night. Roman said we would be here for a while he would start scouting for better clothes for me. I had not noticed that in just over a year we had been together my body had changed quite a bit. More feminine but I had muscles too. My hikers were on their last legs. I thought it was nice finally, they wanted to take care of me.
HAWKIN'S POV
It had been a month and no word about Raven. I could not stop thinking about her. Because of Clare's age she was put with a family I was aloud to take her on dates but there would be no mating ceremony until she was eighteen and had her wolf. I did training everyday and was a border guard. Clare worked in the laundry and the kitchen. We got to see each other a couple times a week. This left me to much time to think of Raven. Was she even alive. Would I not know if she had died. I never rejected her. I hoped when they found her she would forgive me and take me back. Joe had showed up a couple of times over the last year with others from that had run from the pack. Joe said they were close to closing him down and charging him with a tons of charges from murder to kidnapping. He always said. He had found no trace of her. If she had survived that winter on her own she would be considered a rouge now. But he still watched for her. This made me long for her. Clare and I had the mate bond that was very strong. But when I was alone it was not Clare I long for or dreamed about. It was Raven. I made the biggest mistake by not going to her. Even if it was just to tell her we had to wait. But by ignoring her I made her hate me.
"Hawk? Did you hear me? Alpha Hunter wants to see you in his office ten minutes ago." Wayne the warrior I shared a cabin with told me.
"What does he want with me?" I asked.
"No idea but you better get up there. Quick he is not in a good mood today. Wayne said and left our cabin, and I quickly threw on a hoodie and my boots. Five minutes later I was standing in front of Alpha Hunters office door. I knocked and waited.
"Come," Alpha Hunter said. I stepped into his office.
"Close the door and sit-down Hawk." Alpha Hunter said.
"Yes, Alpha." I said closing the door and sitting in a chair in front of his desk. I watched as he got out two glasses and whiskey and sat them on his desk then returned to his chair.
"I received some news today, that I thought might help put your mind at ease son." He said to me. I nodded and waited for him to continue. Instead, he poured two glasses of whiskey and handed me one.
'You should have a drink of that before I tell you son." He suggested.
"No thank you, Alpha. I have never been much of a drinker, though your gesture is appreciated." I said.
"Suit yourself, you might want it after." He said. Taking a drink of his glass.
"The other girl that was coming here with you and Clare, we have found out is very much alive." He said letting that sink into my brain.
I was so happy, I cried tears of joy. Then I realized he was not done talking.
"Sorry Alpha, I'm so very happy she did not die." I said.
