Chapter 179: Benevolence and Righteousness

Chapter 179: Benevolence and Righteousness

"Didn't we agree before? I was only taking care of you for a while. You're almost recovered now, and the caregiver can look after you."

"No way! I'm not used to them taking care of me. Ella, please have some pity on me!"

Ella was speechless. Austin would say similar things every few days, and each time, Ella could only give in.

Ella had been staying in the hospital room all this time, taking care of Austin.

She also had to squeeze out some time to work on her laptop, handling work matters.

Seeing Ella working so hard, Austin felt a bit sorry for her.

But he was reluctant to let Ella leave, afraid that once she left, she would never pay attention to him again.

Seeing Ella fall asleep at the computer again, Austin stood on one leg, holding onto the bed, and gently covered Ella with a blanket.

Ella still noticed it alertly. She glanced at the blanket on her and turned to see Austin standing on one leg beside her.

"What are you doing? Who told you to get out of bed by yourself? What if you fall and hurt yourself?"

Ella quickly stood up to support him, her tone full of blame and concern.

Austin just smiled and shook his head, looking carefree.

"I'm not that fragile. Look, this one leg moves pretty well."

He even hopped twice, making Ella both angry and amused. She quickly grabbed him.

"How old are you? Why are you still showing off?"

"How old am I? I'm in my prime! The way you're talking makes me sound like an old man." Austin felt his pride was hurt.

"Okay, okay, I know you're amazing!" Ella shook her head helplessly and helped him sit back on the bed.

"Of course, after all, you used to praise me every night," Austin said proudly.

"You—if you dare talk nonsense again, I won't pay attention to you anymore." Ella understood what Austin meant and felt both embarrassed and annoyed, scolding him with a stern face.

"I won't say it anymore, I won't. Ella, don't be angry, it's all my fault." Austin immediately panicked, afraid that Ella would just stop caring for him.

"Ella, I was wrong, okay? I'll never talk nonsense again. If you're still angry, hit me. I won't complain at all."

He grabbed Ella's hand and raised it toward his face as if to slap himself.

Ella didn't know whether to laugh or cry at his shameless behavior.

How come she never noticed before? Austin could be quite childish sometimes, always worried she might leave.

Austin had indeed changed a lot. Which one was the real Austin?

Ella's heart was beginning to waver. Should she give Austin a chance?

Could they start over? Ella felt this was a big gamble and didn't dare make a decision easily.

Austin's rehabilitation training was especially painful. Every day, he would be drenched in cold sweat from the pain.

Ella could only accompany him silently. During this time, Sarah and Jason also visited a few times.

Although Jason didn't get an answer from Ella, he already knew in his heart that after this car accident, Ella was even less likely to give him a chance.

Watching Austin and Ella interact so naturally, Jason could only choose to bless them silently.

Margaret's attitude toward Ella had completely changed. She would bring them nutritious soup from time to time.

Seeing Ella take care of Austin day and night, Margaret saw it all and kept it in her heart.

She also felt guilty about how she had treated Ella before.

During this time, Ella stayed by Austin's side, taking care of him attentively.

They were getting closer again. Austin felt that all the pain and injuries he suffered were worth it.

He had secretly ordered a diamond ring. Once he was discharged, he would find a chance to propose to Ella again.

He must make up for all the mistakes he had made before. For the rest of his life, he would protect Ella and make her happy.

During this period, the hospital where John was staying called several times, hoping Ella would visit.

"Ms. Brooks, John wants you to come see him. He says you're his only daughter!"

"Tell him to give up on that idea! He doesn't deserve to be my father, and I don't have a father like him!"

Ella refused without mercy. In her heart, she only had hatred for John, no father-daughter affection.

His current situation was what he deserved. Ella didn't want to see him at all.

Austin, who was beside Ella, also knew about Ella's hatred for John and tried to comfort her.

"If you don't want to see him, then don't. People like that should be left to fend for themselves."

The hospital had just called mainly to ask Ella to pay the medical bills.

John already owed a lot in medical fees. If this continued, the hospital would stop all treatment for him.

Ella was hesitating whether to pay this medical bill.

"I know what to do. Even though I don't want to see him, I hate him in my heart. I hate how he treated my mother, hate his cold-bloodedness toward me!"

"He deserves what's happening to him. I'll transfer money to the hospital later. I'll cover the medical expenses."

"As for visiting him, forget it!"

Austin knew that Ella wasn't as cold as she appeared on the surface. Whatever decision Ella made, he would support her.

The next day, Ella contacted the hospital, explained her thoughts, and transferred the money. From beginning to end, she never saw John again.

Two months later, Ella suddenly received a call from the hospital saying that John had a sudden heart attack and died after failed resuscitation, ending his absurd life.

Hearing this news, Ella didn't feel the slightest bit sad. Instead, she felt this was letting him off easy.

Austin took Ella's hand, his eyes full of tenderness, and said gently.

"Ella, if you want to go claim his body, go. If you don't want to, I'll have someone take care of his funeral arrangements."

Ella nodded. She didn't want to go either, so she agreed with Austin's suggestion.

"Don't bother keeping his ashes either. No one will remember him!" Ella said coldly.

Austin made a phone call and ordered someone to handle these matters.

Ella felt she had done her duty. At least she arranged for someone to claim his body.

After that, Austin worked hard on his rehabilitation training every day, especially leg exercises. Austin didn't want to be disabled again.

Although he wanted to recover as soon as possible,

he still felt a bit anxious, thinking that if he recovered, Ella wouldn't come to take care of him anymore.

Then what reason would he have to keep Ella by his side?
