Chapter 167 Jason's Confession
Chapter 167 Jason's Confession
During the meal, Sarah raised her glass and said sincerely.
"Congratulations, Ella, you finally got your revenge," Sarah said happily.
"So what if I got revenge? My mother still died so early!" A trace of sadness flashed through Ella's eyes.
"I believe God must be watching over you; that's why you went through so many hardships and came out safe."
"Ella, I hope everything goes smoothly for you from now on," Jason said with a comforting smile.
"Jason is so good at comforting people! Ella, your life will definitely be smooth sailing from now on." Sarah said with a smile.
"Thank you both for helping me through all this, and for worrying along with me."
Ella raised her glass to thank her two good friends.
"We don't need to be so formal with each other, right, Jason?" Sarah said, winking at Jason.
"Sarah's right, we don't need to say thank you!"
Sarah noticed that Jason's eyes were very gentle when he looked at Ella.
Suddenly, she had an idea. She pretended to check her phone and said apologetically.
"Sorry, I need to leave now. You two take your time eating. Jason, make sure you get Ella home safely."
"Sarah, make sure you call a driver, and text me when you get home," Ella said with concern.
"Got it, Ella. You and Jason enjoy your dinner. I'm leaving now." As she spoke, Sarah playfully winked at Jason.
Jason immediately understood - Sarah was trying to create an opportunity for the two of them.
Everyone knew how he felt, except Ella. Or was Ella just avoiding him and playing dumb?
Jason lowered his head and took a few bites, then put down his utensils. Finally gathering his courage, he looked at Ella, his eyes full of tenderness.
"Ella, now our company is on track, and you're out of danger too."
"I want to tell you what's in my heart."
Ella looked up at Jason and asked with confusion.
"Jason, what is it? Just say it."
"Ella, I want to be the one to take care of you from now on. Actually, I wanted to tell you this back in college."
"But I knew you had feelings for someone else. Can you give me this chance now?"
Ella's heart trembled. Looking at Jason's sincere face, she was quite surprised.
Although Sarah had always joked about her and Jason, Ella had always seen Jason as a trusted friend.
She never expected that Jason had liked her for so long. Was he confessing his feelings today?
Jason could see the surprise and hesitation in Ella's eyes.
Seeing Ella's silence, Jason could probably guess the answer.
"Jason, actually I..." Ella struggled to speak.
"Ella, I'm not asking you to give me an answer right now. I just want you to give me a chance. I finally worked up the courage to tell you this today. I hope you'll think about it carefully."
"Jason, to be honest, I don't have the courage to start a new relationship yet." Ella could only be honest.
"That's okay, Ella. When you're ready to share your life with someone, I hope you'll consider me first."
"You don't need to feel any pressure. We'll stay the same as always - friends and business partners."
Ella was honestly quite touched. Jason's words were so understanding.
Jason was humble, gentle, and took care of her in every way.
But she really didn't have those feelings for Jason. Ella didn't want to deceive him.
"Thank you, Jason!" Ella really didn't know how to respond.
Jason could see Ella's discomfort and quickly changed the subject to talk about the company's recent situation.
Ella thought Jason was really considerate - he changed the topic just to save her from feeling awkward.
After dinner, they noticed the moon was quite beautiful tonight.
Plus, the weather had been perfect lately - not too cold, not too hot. The breeze on their faces felt especially comfortable.
"Jason, my place is very close. I can walk home by myself." Ella said with a smile.
"Let me walk you home then. It'll help clear my head from the wine, and I'll call a driver when I get back." Jason suggested.
Ella nodded in agreement. The two walked side by side along the tree-lined path, both choosing to remain silent.
When they reached Ella's building, Ella said with a smile.
"Thanks, Jason. Drive carefully on your way back. See you tomorrow. Oh, I need to pick up my car first tomorrow, so I might be a bit late to the office."
"I'll drive you there," Jason said with a smile.
"No need, I'll just take the subway tomorrow. Don't trouble yourself." Ella declined with a smile.
"It's no trouble at all. Don't be so formal with me. I'll come pick you up early tomorrow morning and text you when I'm downstairs."
After saying this, Jason waved at Ella and turned to leave without giving her a chance to refuse.
Ella watched his retreating figure, feeling troubled. She really didn't want to hurt such a good person like Jason.
But if she accepted Jason now, Ella felt it would be even more unfair to him.
She could only let things take their natural course! Ella let out a long sigh, turned around, and went upstairs.
This whole scene was clearly seen by Austin, who was sitting in a car not far away.
Recently, whenever Austin had free time, he would drive to the neighborhood where Ella lived.
Just being able to see Ella from afar was enough to satisfy him.
He had been struggling with how to win Ella back.
When he just saw Ella and Jason come back together, chatting warmly.
Austin's hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white. His eyes were full of anger, and his heart felt like it had been stabbed by a sharp blade.
He absolutely wouldn't allow Ella to be with another man, but he didn't dare use any underhanded methods.
If Ella found out, he might never be able to win her back in this lifetime.
He wanted to use sincerity, but Ella wouldn't accept it. He could only think of other ways.
Austin drove away looking dejected, his heart full of resentment.
As for Judith, after several anxious days, she finally got news about Carol.
Carol had been officially detained. Based on the criminal evidence the police had, Carol would never leave prison for the rest of her life.
When John heard this news, he became even more reckless. He got drunk, accidentally fell, and hit his head, and became completely paralyzed.
John's company went completely bankrupt, and the house and cars were all seized.
