Chapter 69 Missed a Decimal Point
Chapter 69 Missed a Decimal Point
In the laboratory, Sienna found Alexander unconscious from the medications.
"Cell division is accelerating rapidly—we're running out of time!" the professor warned urgently.
Sienna nodded with grim determination. "Leave it to me."
With Alexander's fresh blood samples, her experiments progressed far more smoothly, allowing for real-time specimen updates and adjustments.
Meanwhile, chaos had erupted at the Smith family estate. Within just two days of arrival, the three children had turned the household upside down. William had nearly burned down the greenhouse on his second day and, before the damage could even be assessed, had vanished without a trace. Ethan was approaching his breaking point.
When security called to report William missing again, Ethan grabbed his phone to launch another search, only to find Henry calmly seated on the lounge sofa, absorbed in his tablet.
Ethan raised an eyebrow and settled beside his nephew. "William's disappeared again. Aren't you concerned?"
Henry glanced up briefly and handed him a sleek watch. Ethan examined it, discovering a sophisticated tracking system with a small red dot moving steadily across the display.
"This is... William's location?"
Henry nodded matter-of-factly. "There's no need to worry. The estate's security is excellent. When William encounters new territory, he instinctively patrols and explores—think of him as an adventurous puppy marking his territory. He won't come to any harm."
A wry smile tugged at Ethan's lips as he summoned Paxton and handed over the tracking device. "Follow this signal and locate William, but don't interfere. As long as he's safe, let him do whatever makes him happy."
After Paxton departed, Ethan settled beside Henry and casually glanced at the tablet screen—then froze in astonishment.
"You're reviewing business proposals?"
The sight of a four-year-old studying Knight Group's strategic documents seemed utterly surreal, yet Henry was completely engrossed, which was frankly terrifying.
"Alexander abandoned ship and dumped the company on me," Henry explained with casual indifference. "Uncle, do you think I should let Knight Group go bankrupt?"
Ethan burst into incredulous laughter. Unbelievable! Alexander's irresponsibility knew no bounds—entrusting such a massive corporation to his four-year-old son was beyond comprehension.
"Would you like my assistance?"
Ethan assumed managing a corporation would overwhelm any child, but Henry simply shook his head.
"That's unnecessary. I only need to issue remote directives while others handle execution. Besides, we've already secured two major contracts this week—look!"
Ethan actually examined the documents and was stunned by the impressive profit margins. Henry had accomplished this himself, and Ethan's eyes lit up with genuine admiration.
"Does Henry enjoy this type of... game?"
Henry nodded enthusiastically. "Making money brings joy!"
Delighted, Ethan scooped Henry up and carried him to his private study. While Ethan worked, Henry sat nearby, occasionally wandering over to observe his uncle's business dealings with curious fascination.
During a video conference—Ethan had been working from home to supervise the three children—Henry quietly approached and climbed onto his uncle's lap, then pointed a small finger at the computer screen's financial data.
"Uncle, there's a decimal point error here. If this passes approval, you'll lose substantial money!"
Ethan's expression turned ice-cold as he scrutinized the figures. Henry was absolutely correct, and his face darkened with fury.
The four executives on screen sat speechless. Who was this beautiful child on Ethan's lap? And how could he possibly understand decimal calculations? Remarkable!
Ethan glared at the incompetent fools on his screen, drawing a deep breath. These supposed financial elite couldn't match a child's accuracy—they'd been collecting paychecks under false pretenses for years.
"You're all idiots! How can you bungle something so elementary? Do you want to keep your jobs or not? Get back there and redo everything immediately. One more mistake and you're all fired!"
After terminating the call, Ethan gazed down at Henry with overwhelming affection and planted a kiss on his forehead.
Henry wrinkled his little brow in mock disgust, though even his disapproval was utterly adorable.
"Henry, would you consider becoming my son? I could leave the entire Smith family fortune to you. Since you enjoy making money, how about taking it all?"
Henry shook his head and wagged a tiny finger in refusal.
"No thank you. Keep your assets for your own future children. Uncle, you must work harder to find someone special!"
With that declaration, Henry smiled and scrambled down from Ethan's lap, his short legs carrying him away at a determined pace. Ethan couldn't suppress his amusement—what a precocious little rascal.
After sixteen grueling hours in the laboratory, Sienna finally synthesized the antidote. Once administered to Alexander, his cellular activity began showing positive changes.
"Sienna, your serum is working!" the professor announced with profound relief.
This particular virus was extraordinarily rare, representing a potential breakthrough that could establish an entirely new field in virology. Sienna's achievement had already surpassed her mentor's accomplishments.
But Sienna remained indifferent to such accolades. "As long as we're not too late."
Alexander remained unaware of how close he'd come to death. During his unconscious state, he'd caught fleeting glimpses of Sienna's face through his delirium. When he finally awakened a week later, she was nowhere to be found. Staff informed him that Sienna had already departed for Smith Villa.
Alexander rubbed his temples in exasperation. That woman had simply abandoned him without ceremony.
Reaching for his phone, he immediately called his domestic office. "What's Vesper's current status?"
His assistant answered with barely contained emotion, nearly weeping with relief.
"Mr. Knight! Thank God you've called—I thought perhaps..."
"Were you hoping for my demise? Report on Vesper's situation immediately."
The assistant quickly composed himself and briefed Alexander on the week's developments.
"Vesper has attempted to storm Knight Group headquarters multiple times but was denied entry each occasion. Subsequently, rumors of your death began circulating, causing our stock prices to plummet dramatically. The board of directors is demanding your immediate appearance and continues creating chaos."
Alexander's laugh held no warmth. Excellent—Vesper had exceeded all expectations for vindictive behavior.
"Arrange a press conference. I'll participate via video link."
After ending the call, his assistant rushed to make preparations while senior executives gathered, seeking information.
"Have you heard from Mr. Knight?"
The assistant regarded the group with weary exasperation.
"Has the company collapsed during Mr. Knight's absence?"
The executives shook their heads. Far from collapsing, they'd secured several major contracts, keeping everyone exceptionally busy and distracted from stock fluctuations.
"If we haven't collapsed, return to work. Performance bonuses are due at month's end—anyone uninterested is free to leave."
At this pronouncement, the executives instantly dispersed. Nobody argued with money!
