Chapter 68 The Blake Family's Affairs

Chapter 68 The Blake Family's Affairs

Ethan was fuming. "Useless fool! How can a member of the Smith family allow themselves to be bullied? Call Cruz and have him handle this. And that Blake family—wipe them out!"

James nodded and immediately called his brother Cruz. Upon learning that his sister had been found but mistreated, Cruz altered his entire schedule without hesitation. The Blake family had no idea what kind of force they had provoked and were still celebrating smugly in Blake Villa.

"The Knight family has been suppressing several major domestic corporations lately. If we align ourselves against the Knights, we'll gain support from these groups. This could be the Blake family's salvation!" Chase basked in his perceived brilliance, convinced he'd found their way out. Little did he know, this wasn't an escape route—it was a path to destruction.

Unaware of these machinations, Sienna had been trapped in the laboratory for over sixteen hours before being forcibly removed. Her professor watched her with mounting concern and exasperation.

"Sienna, you're going to kill yourself at this rate! Your physical condition can't sustain this workload. You need rest—immediate rest!"

Drenched in sweat beneath her protective suit and on the verge of collapse, Sienna was dragged away for mandatory rest.

When Alexander arrived, he discovered Sienna had been hospitalized. Racing from the airport to the medical center, he found her lying pale and motionless. A crushing wave of self-loathing washed over him—he was absolutely worthless. What had he ever done to deserve such devotion from her? Grasping her hand, tears streamed down his face.

"Sienna, I've failed you. I'm sorry I came too late."

Exhausted beyond measure, Sienna slept for sixteen hours before awakening, her mind foggy and disoriented. Alexander had maintained his vigil beside her bed, and when her eyes finally opened, his relief was overwhelming.

"Sienna, you're finally awake!"

She regarded him with surprise. "Alexander? What are you doing here?"

Alexander quickly summoned the medical team. After confirming Sienna's stable condition, he finally relaxed, settling beside her bed while maintaining his grip on her hand.

"I came straight from the airport when I heard you'd been hospitalized. Were you trying to give me a heart attack?"

Sienna shot him a withering look. "All of this was for you, Mr. Knight. Apparently, your medical bills require risking life and limb!"

Alexander chuckled, leaning down to kiss her forehead tenderly. "From now on, both my money and my life belong to you."

Sienna immediately covered his mouth with her hand. "Don't say such things!"

Alexander captured her hand, pressing a reverent kiss to her palm. When Sienna tried to pull away in embarrassment, he refused to release her.

"Have you resolved everything back home? Who poisoned you?"

Alexander smiled at her question. "I thought you'd stopped caring whether I lived or died."

Sienna huffed dismissively, prompting Alexander to recount recent events.

"Vesper was the Knight family's adopted daughter who married into Harmony City years ago. The Knights had always protected her, even ensuring her husband's company remained profitable through our support. However, the Reed family in Harmony City lacked real influence. When they failed to absorb the Knight empire through legitimate means, Vesper devised this scheme—poison us all and claim the Knight fortune."

Sienna frowned. "Is Vesper completely delusional? If she killed all of you, she'd lose her family's protection and meet an even worse fate."

Alexander gazed at her with amusement. "She was never truly a Knight by blood. If she possessed such strategic thinking, she wouldn't have endured years of control by the Reed family without seeking divorce. Grandfather took pity on her and chose not to pursue charges, though the Reed family now faces bankruptcy and poses no further threat to us."

"But you've abandoned your company to come here? Are you just giving up?"

Alexander's smile widened. "I've delegated to my assistant, and there's always Henry."

Henry? Sienna wondered if the poison had addled Alexander's brain.

"Henry is four years old! You're entrusting a corporation employing millions to a toddler?"

Alexander nodded seriously. "Sienna, never underestimate Henry. He's already managing billions in assets—the Knight Group is child's play for him."

Though Sienna recognized Henry's exceptional abilities, this seemed excessive.

"Alexander, you're just making excuses to slack off. You want to dump everything on Henry so you can gallivant around the world."

Alexander's laughter was unrepentant. "Guilty as charged, darling. From the moment you returned to the country, I knew I'd never let you go again. You've given me three children, and if I survive this, my entire future belongs to you."

Watching Alexander, Sienna felt a complex mixture of emotions. After ten years of circuitous paths and wasted time, both their hearts and bodies bore countless scars. She wondered how she'd fallen for such an impossibly stubborn man.

"Since you're giving me your life, Mr. Knight, you'll follow my orders from now on."

Sienna immediately made a phone call, and Alexander was soon escorted away for blood work at the central laboratory. The professor examined his samples with growing concern.

"Your blood cell deterioration is accelerating rapidly. Without an antidote, you have mere hours to live."

Alexander felt perfectly fine and was startled by this prognosis. "Professor, I don't feel unwell at all."

The professor regarded him thoughtfully. "You've coexisted with this toxin for years—your body has adapted. Your current condition puzzles us. We can't determine whether your cells are defeating the poison or if the toxin has integrated into your cellular structure. This uncertainty explains Sienna's repeated failures in developing an antidote."

Alexander grasped the implications despite his lack of medical expertise. "So if I don't take the antidote, I might actually be fine?"

The professor shook his head gravely. "If your cellular defenses prevail, your physical capabilities could actually improve. However, if the toxin gains the upper hand, you'll die swiftly."

Alexander's fate remained uncertain. When Sienna arrived, the professor had attempted several formulations without success.

"Professor, I'm back. Let me handle this."

"Sienna, can you physically manage this?"

Sienna smiled and nodded. During her journey back, she'd video-called the three children, and their laughter had rejuvenated her spirits considerably.

"Mommy, is Daddy going to die?" Henry's sudden question caught her off guard.

"Henry, why would you ask that?"

After a moment's hesitation, Henry replied, "I overheard Uncle talking on the phone. He said Daddy was dying. Is it true?"

Sienna studied her son intently. "What about you? Do you want him to die?"

Henry shook his head without hesitation. "Even though he's been awful, I don't want him to die. So he won't, right?"

Relief flooded through Sienna as she nodded. "Of course not. I've never lost a patient yet."

Henry's tension visibly eased, and he smiled at his mother. "Mommy, I'll be good and wait here for you to bring us home."
