Chapter 66 The Smiths Are On Cloud Nine
Chapter 66 The Smiths Are On Cloud Nine
Alexander gritted his teeth in fury, his hands itching to strangle Mason on the spot.
Meanwhile, Ethan was equally livid upon learning that Alexander had beaten them to securing the household registration. The betrayal cut deep.
"That bastard! What kind of man resorts to such underhanded tactics? It's absolutely despicable!" Ethan seethed.
The two men faced off across the distance, with Ethan clearly coming out worse in this round. His frustration boiled over as he dialed James's number. James was still catching up on sleep at his hotel when the shrill ring jolted him awake.
"Ethan, have you lost your mind? I haven't slept in two days—please, just give me a break!" James groaned into the phone.
"Sienna's about to be taken away, and you're still snoozing!"
James's drowsiness evaporated instantly. "What happened to Sienna?"
After Ethan explained the situation, James's expression darkened with concern. "That son of a bitch Alexander really crossed the line this time. Holding Olivia's passport hostage to force Sienna back—it's brilliant and ruthless. The real problem is that without legal documentation, Olivia can't stay with the Smith family indefinitely."
This was exactly what had Ethan so incensed. He'd already secured legal identities for Henry and William under the Smith family name, and if Sienna agreed, he could even arrange for the boys to take their surname.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Whatever we do has to be Sienna's choice. She's planning to visit in the next few days, and I'll pick her up personally. You just focus on wrapping up the Knight family business."
"Don't worry, Ethan. Keeping Sienna from having to return would be the best outcome for everyone."
After ending the call, Ethan went to find Amara but encountered his father Gage in the living room, who had finally made an appearance.
"Ethan, what's wrong with your mother? I thought she was feeling better—why is she sick again?"
Ethan shot Gage an exasperated look, but before he could respond, footsteps echoed from the staircase. He rushed to the bottom just in time to catch a barefoot child in his arms.
"Uncle Ethan, I'm starving! I want food—meat, cake, everything!" William declared with the single-minded determination of a true food enthusiast.
The little gourmand had barely woken up before sneaking downstairs in search of sustenance. Ethan couldn't help but feel both exasperated and amused. "You had indigestion last night and nearly developed a bowel obstruction."
William's lower lip jutted out in a pout that made Ethan's stern facade crumble. "Alright, William. I'll have the kitchen prepare something easy to digest for you. Now march upstairs, get Henry and Olivia dressed properly, and then you can all come down for breakfast. Understood?"
William's face lit up with joy—food was food, after all. He planted a grateful kiss on Ethan's cheek before being escorted upstairs by a servant who had followed him down.
Only then did Ethan turn his attention to Gage, who stood frozen in bewilderment. "Hold on, Ethan—when did you father an illegitimate child?"
Ethan nearly rolled his eyes as he settled onto the sofa. "Those aren't my children. They're Sable's—my sister's."
"Sable? Sister?" Gage's mind struggled to process this information. "You found Sable? And she has children?"
Ethan nodded. "Sable was James's colleague at the overseas research facility. They worked together for five years without James realizing who she was. I discovered her identity during a business trip to Novaria recently. We've already confirmed it with DNA testing—she's definitely our Sable."
Gage's face transformed with pure elation as he slapped his knee. "This is incredible! Your mother must be over the moon! Where is she? Where's my daughter?"
He bounded upstairs in search of Amara, leaving Ethan with a knowing smile. Within minutes, Gage's anguished cries echoed through the house.
"Darling, I was wrong! It's all my fault that Sable suffered for so many years! My poor grandchildren, how much they must have endured—" His words were cut short by another pained yelp.
Amara's rage was so intense that Gage dropped to his knees in supplication. Only then did Amara refrain from further violence. When Gage emerged, his face was a canvas of bruises, yet he wore a beatific smile.
Henry appeared with William and Olivia just as this battered but blissful figure came into view. The sight of Gage's swollen, grinning face was enough to reduce Olivia to near tears.
"Three beautiful children! Sable is absolutely remarkable—triplets! Come here, my precious ones, let me hold you!" Gage swept all three children into an enthusiastic embrace, showering them with kisses that terrified poor Olivia.
Amara's protective instincts flared. "You're frightening them! Put them down immediately!"
Gage reluctantly released his grip, beaming. "Look at me, darlings. I'm your grandfather—your real grandfather!"
Henry studied him with a furrowed brow before speaking with mature deliberation. "Are you Mommy's father?"
"Absolutely! Your mommy is my biological daughter!"
"If she's your real daughter, why haven't we seen you taking care of Mommy all these years? Did you abandon her because you didn't want a daughter?"
Faced with Henry's penetrating gaze, Gage found himself surprisingly defensive. "It's not like that at all, sweetheart. When your mother was born, I was overseas on business. By the time I returned, she had disappeared. Your grandmother and I spent three years in Novaria searching for her, and we never stopped looking."
Gage couldn't understand why he felt compelled to justify himself to a child, but Henry's presence commanded respect and demanded answers.
Ethan observed this exchange with growing admiration for Henry's maturity. "Technically, you should call him Grandfather. While we were wrong not to find your mother sooner, you shouldn't hold that against your grandparents. How about this—your grandfather has more money than he knows what to do with. Why don't you let him give you all his spending money as an apology?"
Henry considered this proposition and nodded his grudging acceptance. Gage, meanwhile, felt his heart breaking at the thought of parting with his carefully hoarded wealth.
"Yes, yes, I'm your grandfather, and what's mine is yours!" He produced a black card from his wallet and handed it to Henry, whose eyes immediately lit up with recognition. It was a limited-edition global black card with a minimum balance of ten billion dollars.
"Dad, that's embarrassingly little. Come on, hand over the rest," Ethan said without ceremony, fishing three or four additional cards from Gage's pockets.
Amara's expression turned thunderous as she grabbed Gage's ear. "Gage, you sneaky rat! Not only do you have secret accounts, but you have this many? I'm going to kill you!"
"Mercy, my dear! Have mercy!" Gage pleaded as Amara delivered another sound thrashing.
William watched the spectacle with delight rather than fear. "Henry, if Daddy hides money from Mommy, will she beat him up too?"
The mention of Alexander darkened Henry's mood. They'd been gone for days, and their father hadn't even sent a message. Had he given up so easily? Little did Henry know that Alexander was preparing something special.
The commotion, however, frightened Olivia, who clung tightly to Haven's neck. "I'm scared..."
Hearing Olivia's trembling voice, Amara immediately released Gage and gathered the little girl into her arms with infinite tenderness. "Don't be afraid, sweetheart. Let's go get something delicious to eat and leave these silly men behind."
