Chapter 189 Epilogue 2
Chapter 189 Epilogue 2
ALEXANDER POV
"I should be asking you the same question, sunshine. You despise these events."
"Well, when you're suddenly handling a multimillion-dollar business, you don't exactly have a choice," she countered, lifting her chin defensively. "My parents thought it would look good for the company image if their daughter tagged along."
I hummed, my eye dipping down to catch the subtle swell of her breast from the side of the gown. "I should really bash your parents' heads together, but I'm letting it go tonight, solely because I got to see you."
Ana let out a sharp huff, staring at me in utter disbelief. "Are you ever going to stop disrespecting my parents, Alexander?"
I tilted my head to the side, looking up at the ceiling as if I were genuinely contemplating the option. "Maybe. If they stop trying to slide a wedge between me and my wife."
"Maybe it'll happen when you start giving them the basic respect they deserve."
"Sure, ma'am," I murmured. I dug my fingers into my trousers pocket, pulled out a rolled blunt, and casually popped it between my lips.
Then, I pulled out a tiny, bright pink plastic lighter and flicked the flame to life.
What? I saw it at a shop, thought it looked cute, and wanted to carry something in my wife's favorite color since she took her scrunchie back.
"You're burning your lungs, Alexander," she scolded, watching the tip glow orange.
"It's weed, Anastasia, not cigarettes," | replied smoothly. I took a deep, heavy drag, held the smoke in, and deliberately puffed the thick cloud directly into the face of a motherfucker passing by.
It was Andrew Rane—the miserable bastard who had bloggers publish a fake article trying to sabotage me five years ago. I’d made sure he spent those five years in prison for it, but unfortunately for him, I still hold a phenomenal grudge. Rane violently hacked, waving the thick gray smoke away from his face as he glared at me.
I wanted to smash his jaw right into the marble floor, but I had far more valuable things to do with my time.
I turned back to face Ana, only to find her grinning from ear to ear, trying to suppress a laugh. She looked entirely proud of me.
My wife was a complete masochist for my narcissism.
"You are such an ass," she said, shaking her head.
"Tell me about it." I retorted. Taking another long drag. "You look so beautiful in this dress, Ana."
Her hazel eyes searched mine, softening slightly. "Really?"
I nodded slowly. "Yes, sunshine. It's a tragic shame we're divorced. Fuck knows what I would be doing to you in the back of my car right now if we weren't."
A beautiful smile finally broke across her face, and then she let her body go completely limp and dropped dramatically, arms out, falling toward me. I caught her without thinking, reeling her body tightly into my chest. My heart skipped a violent beat the exact second her warm, bare skin made contact with my hands.
“Somebody save me,” she announced dramatically to no one, clutching her chest. “My beautiful, beautiful husband said we are divorced. Who’s going to marry me now? I need to wear a wedding gown again.”
She thinks I’m beautiful. Beautiful beautiful.
I was going to think about that for the rest of my life.
“I’d very much like to see you in a wedding dress again,” I said. “With me as the husband. Obviously.”
She pulled herself upright, the performance dropping from her face. “Don’t get ahead of yourself, Mr Miller.”
"Too bad I can't help it," | said, shrugging my shoulders.
She slapped my chest playfully, and I couldn't help but admire how entirely comfortable she seemed around me tonight. It felt like the first time in an eternity that she wasn't looking at me with fear or exhaustion.
"Have a good night, Mr. Miller," she murmured, turning on her heel and walking back toward the main floor. Her hips swayed deliberately with every step, the crimson silk rippling against her skin.
“You too, Mrs Miller,” I called after her, grinning like an idiot.
Fuck.
I'm in love.
I stood in the corner for a moment, simply watching her as she greeted a few old family friends. She looked genuinely happy, and honestly, I couldn't have asked for anything more.
I glanced across the room and caught sight of Sebastian standing near the bar. He was slowly shaking his head at me, looking at me like I had completely lost every sense I had ever possessed.
I wanted to take off my shoe and throw it directly at his head so badly. But I was currently wearing the custom Louboutins my wife had gifted me. They were far too precious to be wasted on a fucker like him.
I quickly spun around and followed Ana back into the crowd, sliding right up next to her side.
She let out a sharp gasp when she felt my heavy presence shadow her again. "You are too whipped to stay away from me, aren't you?" she teased, looking up.
Instead of answering, I reached down, firmly engulfing her small hand in mine, intertwining our fingers. I immediately began directing her across the room toward Lord Davenport, one of the wealthiest maritime logistics billionaires in the country. Ana looked down at our entwined hands, her breath hitching.
"Let me introduce you to Davenport," I whispered in her ear. "The man strictly partners with people who come from a stable, traditional home."
"We don't have a stable home, Alexander," she pointed out dryly. "We have a broken home."
"We have a fixing home," | corrected smoothly.
A tiny, musical giggle escaped her lips, warming my chest.
"Good evening, Lord Davenport," | announced as we approached the older gentleman. "I'd like you to meet my wife, Anastasia Miller. She is my life and pride."
As I spoke, I deliberately let go of her hand, sliding my large palm up to grip her shoulder instead, gently pulling her body flush against my side. Ana darted her hazel eyes up at me, looking at me in utter, unbelievable shock at the bluntness of my words.
Lord Davenport smiled warmly, giving a polite nod. "A pleasure to finally meet the famous Anastasia. I've read about your family's recent corporate restructuring." He extended his right hand toward her, intending to offer a standard business handshake.
I instantly stepped half an inch forward, smoothly intercepting the space between them. "I'm incredibly sorry, Davenport, but you can't shake her hand. My wife doesn't seem to be reacting well to physical touch these days... except for mine, of course. Take no offense, please."
Davenport blinked in surprise for a fraction of a second, but being the seasoned aristocrat he was, he merely chuckled and pulled his hand back respectfully. "None taken at all, Mr.
Miller. A man of your stature should always protect his most valuable asset. Family comes before business, always."
After a few more minutes of superficial small talk, Davenport excused himself to find his wife.
The moment he was out of earshot, Ana turned on me, her brow arching high. "I wasn't expecting you to speak to Davenport in such a calm manner."
"I'm learning morals. Anything for my wife."
She looked at me for a long moment. Said nothing. But she didn’t let go of my hand either.
