Chapter 75
Jasmine's gaze also fell on the documents on the table. Tired as she was, she didn't even want to bother with it.
"I thought you were sacked, how come you have work to do?" Jasmine asked. "What are those?"
Carly quickly packed the documents and put them in the file, clutching them in her hand. "Nothing serious."
"Nothing serious?" Jasmine repeated. "Why then do you seem so defensive?"
"Defensive? I'm not defensive at all." Carly said. "You must be tired, why not just go in and rest? I need to hand these over to Landon, they belong to his company."
Jasmine nodded slowly. "If you say so."
Carly was relieved that Jasmine had bought the lie. She scolded herself for her carelessness.
What would have befallen her if Jasmine had insisted and checked the document. She tidied up and made to leave the house. Jasmine followed her out.
"Is it that important?" Jasmine asked. "You can actually just leave it."
Carly shook her head. "I don't want anything that reminds me of him, you see. I want to get rid of everything that could remind me of him."
"Oh." Jasmine nodded. "Alright then. Don't stay out too long or I might just come after you and God help Landon should I find him abducting you, I'll finish him off."
Carly chuckled. "Thanks, Jas."
With that, she finally left. But rather than go to Landon's mansion, she went to the club to just relax. The moment Peter saw her, he thanked his heavens.
"Carly! Oh dear, you're alright! I'm so grateful!" Peter exclaimed. "Come, come. Please we need you tonight."
"Pete, I can't serve tables tonight," Carly said.
"No, no. You don't need to serve the tables. You can just supervise the delivery of the wines. We are short of workers tonight and everyone is too busy since the bar is so full. Maybe you can do that?"
"Alright, no problem." Carly nodded. She went to the back and took over from Torrent in supervising the offload.

Landon sat in his office, wallowing in mild misery. He couldn't deny that Noah was a good assistant. But he just wasn't like Carly. No matter how good he was, he just wasn't like Carly. And he also couldn't deny missing Carly.
He sighed and rubbed his face. He cared too much about her. Yes, she hurt him and all, but still, he cared about her. Where could she be?
"But she was so happy without me? She even went out with Jasmine for ice cream." He said. "So if she doesn't care, how should I be so bothered about her?"
Landon sat still, staring at his blank computer screen. He suddenly made a resolve. Whether or not Carly cared about him, he just could not stand her absence. He stood from his seat, grabbed his suit, and left the office, locking it behind him.
He got into the elevator and went down to the parking lot. As soon as he entered his car, he threw his jacket to the other seat and started the engine. He had to find Carly. But where could he search? Maybe he could check the club. Noah said she used to work there and he knew that maybe when she stopped working there was when she joined the agency.
Landon drove quickly to the club and parked there. Before he got down, he questioned his motive once again. What if Carly refused to speak to him? What could he do? What should he do? What would he do?"
"Damnit!" He groaned and alighted the car. He walked briskly towards the entrance and he wasn't stopped from entering. He got in and searched with his eyes for Carly. She wasn't in sight.
"Maybe she's kinda busy." He murmured. He decided to sit and wait a little for her. Two waiters came to take his order but he shook his head. He didn't want wine or alcohol, he wanted Carly. But he couldn't exactly say that, she wasn't on the menu.
After waiting for a while and not seeing any sign of her, he stood up and left the club. Maybe she is too busy today, he thought. He could come back the following evening to see if she would be less busy.
With that affirmation, he nodded and left. Landon drove to his house and simply went to sleep.
Landon arrived at work the next morning and he had eye bags under his eyes. He didn't sleep too well, thinking about Carly. Noah filled him in with all his activities for the day and he nodded absentmindedly. Throughout the day, Noah still had to remind him severally about the other things he had to do and he still nodded.
It was clearly obvious to everyone that Landon wasn't in a good mood. Everyone worked extra hard to make sure that they delivered top-notch, just because they didn't want him to rub his grumpiness on any of them.
Soon, it was closing time again. Noah ensured that everything went fine before he told Landon that he was leaving.
Landon simply nodded again. Noah stood there, waiting because he knew that there was a chance that Landon did not hear what he said. Landon looked up with a questioning gaze.
"Why are you still here? Didn't you just say you're leaving?" Landon inquired.
Noah shook his head. "Nothing boss. Just wanted to be sure you're fine."
"Have you heard from Carly?" Landon asked.
Noah paused for a while. Was Landon this grumpy because of Carly's absence? "Not yet sir. She hasn't answered any of my calls. Maybe I'll keep trying. Should I tell her you want to see her?"
Landon weighed his options. Carly might feel different if the news came from Noah. Noah could make it seem as though he was desperate for her presence and he didn't want that.
"No," Landon said. "Don't tell her anything. I just wanted to find out a few things from her about the last meeting she attended in my absence. Apparently, Mark didn't keep his own record and I needed to know from her directly. Don't worry, till you can contact her, just let me know where to find her. I'll go myself."
Noah hid his smirk. "Alright, sir."
