Chapter 79: Worry About Her

“I would know already if you had,” George challenged.

“Are you sure about that?” William retorted.

“William, I am not willing to play games with you. If you have found her, you should have informed me immediately. But now, you are using her to exchange for my approval for your girlfriend. You cannot blackmail me into this.”

William shrugged. “I didn’t tell you because she doesn’t want to be found. I will ask her if she wants to reveal herself to you. But father, you only wanted me to find her. You never did tell me why…” The questions Sarah had asked him still plagued him.

George was confused for a second. “Is it so hard to tell what she is needed for?” he questioned. “A father wanted to meet his daughter and I am fulfilling it.”

William chuckled and shook his head. “In this day and age, if he really wanted to find her, would he haven’t been able to? He probably didn’t look for her hard enough.”

George glared. “His first wife was adamant that she didn’t want him to see her or their daughter. So, he kept away. But he wanted the daughter to come back to the family later on… when she became an adult. He wanted to hand the company to her.”

William raised a brow. “And you said you will step down from your position in the company if I found her…”

“Yes, only when you place Cera Stone in her rightful place will that be happening.”

William curled his fingers into a fist. “You didn’t mention this before. She doesn’t want anything to do with that company. This is impossible.”

“Then, make it happen. If you can’t… you should at least bring her to me so that I can see her face and tell her the truth that she didn’t know.” It didn’t pass George’s attention that William was passionate about not hurting this girl he had just found.

Moreover, his people were at William’s side. If William had found her, he would get some inkling. But if he didn’t… it was someone he already knew.

William furrowed his brow. ”I don’t think I will be doing that. I don’t need to take full control of the company.”

“Are you sure?” George asked with a small smile.

“I am not going to build my power on someone else’s misery.” It would not have been a problem if it was anyone apart from Sarah. But that was the case.

“We will see…” George commented under his breath.

Sarah had just come out of the office building after work when she noticed a familiar yellow convertible parked in front. She raised her brow in question and ignored it. She had already booked a cab. The time of arrival was in five minutes, so that was the amount of time she would have to ignore Vera Kincaid.

Vera waved at Sarah and chuckled when she realized the other was ignoring her. “She’s grown a spine in the time we haven’t met,” she muttered under her breath. She opened the door and walked over to her.

Sarah had no other option but to look at the woman. “Mrs. Stone,” she greeted with a small bow. The employees filling out the building looked at the conspicuous car and then at the older woman who was talking to their new employee.

“It has been a while since we met. Did you forget me?” Vera questioned.

“Of course not. I was worried that Wendy is not coming to the office but knew I shouldn’t contact her,” Sarah said nonchalantly.

Vera hummed. “How could she come after William and you have humiliated her thoroughly?” she asked. “I wondered why you were so audacious even though you were just a little girlfriend, but I think I understand now… you thought you were on the same footing as Wendy.”

Sarah frowned, unable to understand what Vera was saying.

“It wasn’t William, that is for sure. But I applaud you for your courage. If Mendez hadn’t told me who you are, I would have never thought you would show up again.”

Sarah froze. “Mrs. Stone, I don’t understand...”

“Of course, you don’t. So get in the car, and allow your stepmother to tell you exactly what I mean.” Vera motioned towards the car and waited with a raised brow for Sarah to walk over.

But Sarah was in no state to respond. It was abundantly clear to her that her secret was revealed. She calculated if it was safe for her to step into the car. But if she didn’t, Vera would make a scene in front of the company.

“Sarah, is she bothering you?” she heard Carson say. Her head swiveled in his direction.

“Oh, look. Your cousin is concerned about you,” Vera commented softly.

Sarah gasped in shock and was happy that Carson was in the distance and unable to hear what Vera had said. Her eyes widened and she shook her head at Carson.

“I am fine. I am just talking to her about something personal,” she lied through her teeth.

“Miss Mitch, should we take this conversation to the car? I can drop you home while we are at it,” Vera said sweetly, but there was a hidden threat evident.

Sarah cleared her throat and nodded. “My cab is taking too long to arrive, anyway.” She turned toward Carson. “Don’t worry, I will let you k now when I arrive home.”

Vera flashed a knowing smile at Carson before leading Sarah to the car. She opened the door and closed it after Sarah had put the seatbelt on. “Good girl,” she whispered before walking to the driver’s side and sliding in.

“Shall we get going, daughter?” Vera said sarcastically.

Sarah clutched the seatbelt as the car sped off, leaving Carson panicking on the pavement. He had already pulled his cell phone out and called someone.

“Dad, Vera Kincaid just forced Sarah into the car and took her somewhere. She seems to be holding something over Sarah’s head!” he exclaimed the moment the call went through.

The gruff person on the other end wasn’t as worried as him. “She took the girl away in broad daylight, she won’t do anything bad. From what you told me, Sarah is very much like her mother. You don’t need to worry about her.”
