Chapter 130 BOOK 2: CHAPTER 20
—Amira—
The morning sunlight spilled through the window as I stood before my wardrobe, wondering what to pack in. He didn't tell me how long the trip was going to last.
He didn't even tell me where we were going.
I picked up my phone and dialed his number. It rang but he didn't answer. Then I decided to text him.
‘How long is this business trip?’
‘Five days,’ he replied.
Oh, he was deliberately avoiding my calls!
‘Where are we going?’
‘You will see.’
I wanted to insist but remember how stubborn and persistently annoying he could be. He wouldn't tell me even if I pressed.
Tossing my phone, I packed my luggage then slipped into the bathroom. After a warm shower, I returned to the room and dressed in a blazer and pencil trousers.
My chauffeur honked from the yard, signaling his arrival. I glanced across the window as he stepped out and leaned against the car.
Exhaling, I dragged my gaze back to the mirror. My blazer accentuated my curves and my makeup was minimal.
“Perfect!” I mumbled and headed off.
“Good morning, ma'am,” my chauffeur greeted as our eyes met, stepping away from the car.
“Morning,” I replied.
“Are you ready?” he asked, a knowing smile tugging his lips.
He knew about the trip, didn’t he? Especially since Nathaniel had dismissed him twice from dropping me off at night.
“Yes,” I breathed. “Let's go.”
He carried the luggage into the trunk while I settled in the back seat. Just as I slipped on my seat belt, my phone rang.
I answered, “Hello, Joyce.”
“Girlie. How far? I didn't hear from you again regarding the money.”
My heart swelled with joy. “He cleared everything.”
“Who?” Joyce asked.
“Mr. Rivera.”
Joyce gasped. “Omg, Amira! I told you he likes you.”
I shrugged. “Maybe he's simply being benevolent toward me as my boss.”
“I doubt,” she blurted. “We'll catch up during break time.”
“Oh, I forgot to tell you. We're embarking on a trip this morning.”
Joyce literally squealed like a child. I could hear her clapping over the phone.
“Did you pack some lingerie? I need you to be hot throughout.”
“C'mon, Joyce. It's a business trip.”
“Yes. With a man who'd move the heavens and earth for you, girl. Do I need to teach you everything?”
A devilish smile curved my lips.
“Alright, Joyce. Talk to you later.”
Lowering my phone, I turned to my chauffeur. “Turn around, please. I forgot something at home.”
Without hesitation, he made a U-turn and steered us back to my house.
My heart pounded as I slid out of the car and made my way to my bedroom. Fingers trembling, I rummaged through my wardrobe until I found my panties bag.
Red. Black. Yellow. Blue.
I sorted through the racy ones, most of them were still tagged.
Heat rushed my face, my thoughts drifting to the moment Nathaniel slid my panties aside and touched me.
Swallowing hard, I stuffed the panties in my handbag and headed out.
The ride to the office was a quiet one.
We eased into Allwell headquarters and I saw Nathaniel waiting beside his convoy. Black suit, aviator sunglasses, and a customized diamond watch peeking beneath his cuff.
Was it legal to be this handsome?
I smoothed my blazer and stepped out of the car. His cologne wrapped around me...so intoxicating...
“Good morning, Mr. Rivera.”
He glanced at his wristwatch. “You're late.”
I blinked. “I forgot something. H–had to turn around to get them.”
A smile touched his lips, so faint, but it was noticeable. Behind him stood Steve and some senior staff.
“It's a good thing we're flying private,” Nathaniel murmured and started walking toward the field. A silver jet gleamed on the tarmac, its gold rims catching the morning light.
Two pilots stood at the foot of the stairs, immaculate in navy uniforms.
“Good morning, Mr. Rivera... Ma'am,” one of them greeted.
“Let’s proceed,” Nate ordered and headed inside.
I stood, completely dazed.
Sweet mercy! I was about to board my first plane— a private one at that.
I pinched myself. The sharp pain confirmed it wasn’t a dream.
“Are you coming?” Nathaniel asked, halfway atop the stairs.
I jolted. “O–Of course.”
Inside the plane was even more luxurious. A hostess welcomed us and ushered us to the seats.
Across the oval windows, the engines stirred.
“Where are we going?” I asked, bringing back my gaze to Nathaniel.
“Europe. Paris.”
“What for?”
He pulled out a file and handed it to me.
The Rivera Group was preparing to integrate French-made avionics and radar systems at the request of the Nigerian government.
“You said five days.” I gulped. “Are we lodging?”
He exhaled. “We'll see about that.”
It was a business trip. But why did my heart race when I met his gaze?
“Thank you. For clearing my grandma's hospital bills.”
He nodded. “Why didn't you tell me about it?”
“I—I didn't want to bother you,” I stammered. “I'm sorry.”
A smile passed between us. “What exactly did you forget at home?”
My cheeks burned. “M-my perfume.”
He quirked an eyebrow. “Really?”
“What? You don't believe me?”
“I overheard Joyce in the hallway. She was advising someone to be hot throughout a business trip. It couldn't be you, could it?”
A flush betrayed my composure.
“I—I don't know what you're talking about,” I rasped.
A scoff escaped him. When I glanced at him again, he was staring out of the windows.
The jet steered down the runway and began its smooth ascent, then lifted effortlessly into the sky.
A seven-hour nonstop flight. With exquisite cuisine and champagne.
Finally, we touched down in Paris, one of my dream cities. Another Nathaniel's convoy waited in the hangar.
We climbed in and melted into the busy streets.
Seconds later, we pulled up before a sophisticated black gate flanked by security personnel.
The moment the gates opened, my breath caught. That wasn't a hotel as I speculated, but a mansion.
A domestic staff member waited on the terrace.
“Welcome to my mansion,” Nathaniel introduced as we stepped out of the car.
I took in the estate. “It's beautiful.”
Nathaniel smiled. “A steward will show you to your room,” he said, and headed off.
I watched him until he disappeared into the mansion. Then turned to the steward as she approached.
My room was spacious and luxurious.
I lowered my bag and changed into something more comfortable.
My footsteps echoed as I emerged from the room and traced my way to the nearest door. Then I heard it— the sound of water splashing.
Someone was in the pool.
Who?
Curiosity flicked through me.
I approached the glass doors and— froze.
From the blue, Nathaniel emerged; sturdy, hot...extremely wet.
