Chapter 33 Hometown

Chapter 33 Hometown
Seraphina's POV

As we all got prepared for La Terra, Mam Carolina tells me to be in my best outfit. I don't know why, but I do know one thing… I am not happy at all about the trip.

I try to convince her to let me stay in La Estancia but she tells me that's not happening. It's a blow on my face, and I just have to face it.

Jessica, Elena and Rosa are also part of those that will be going. They were happy though, by the mentioning of rich drug lords.

I don't even know why they find everything about this life interesting. They don't mind being paired by any man, as long as he's willing to pay for their service.

I could remember the day Elena was paired with an overweighted man. A glutton. He took lots of junks before they went to bed, and lasted only a few minutes, then comes out to eat more junks.

I felt embarrassed. But she felt nothing. They danced, drank and returned to bed only to come out shortly after again. I can't do that. Even though we practically offer the same services, I wouldn't like to be paired with such men.

I mean, what if I get killed? Or will I be on top of him? If he's the one to be on me, I think I will pass. Being who I am give me some little privileges in La Estancia. For example, I can get to choose the men I get paired with sometimes.

I can skip nights, all in the name of being stressed, feeling unwell and so on. Others don't really get that chance. Mam Carolina will shut them off the moment they open their mouth to speak. Well, she's my aunt, isn't she? But no one has to know. That secret is being me, her and the landlord.

Talking about the landlord, he's actually dying. His health is deteriorating day by day, and Mam Carolina is becoming more in charge. New girls come in once in a while and she would be the one to pay for all the expenses.

She arrange meetings, make settlements and sign documents. But I fear leaving the landlord to escort us to La Terra is a bad idea, even though the guards will be around to maintain law and order, and to make sure no one goes to the landlord's floor.

After getting myself dressed, Mam Carolina, me and other girls that were selected head out to the bus waiting for us.

The bus will be taking us to the boatyard. We are using the sea because, it's safer for the kind of our job.

Taking us there by air will raise suspicion, and that will be bad for La Estancia.

In the boat, the captain keeps looking at me as if he knows me somewhere. I lower my head whenever I don't feel like looking him into the eyes. It gets to the point where I ask for a change of seat. I am sitting directly in the line of his site at the front of the cockpit.

"Why do you want to change your seat?" Mam Carolina asks.

I don't want to say what's in my mind. He could hear me. So I gulp and tell her I just don't feel comfortable.

"Nobody is comfortable here, we just have to be patient. We will arrive soon at... La Terra" she says.

I gulp, and decide not to just look away from the captain.

We are heading to the same boatyard Dante Alvarez left me the day I lost my parents, and also lost my tranquility. The day my entire life changed. I don't know where Dante is but, wherever he is now I hope we one day meets, that's if he's still alive.

The boat keeps moving, until we are approached by a patrol boat. They ask the captain and the crewmen questions, they answer... and bribe the coast guards. They leave us, and we continue our trip until we arrive at the boatyard in La Terra.

The boat reverses and heads away, leaving us to wait for whoever is coming to get us. I believe, that should be the sponsors' men. Mam Carolina is ever calm as she keeps making calls here and there.

In about twenty minutes, six black SUVs arrive at the boatyard. They pullover and the security guards that come along open doors for us to get in.

"Get in, girls! We don't have time to waste" Mam Carolina orders, "Get in, now!"

We do exactly as ordered.

I thought she will call me to stay in the same vehicle as her but she only looks at me and smile.

Anything that will make us stay in private, she avoids it... maybe because she's running away from the questions I have for her in store.

The cars move gently out of the boatyard, but speedily afterwards.
