Chapter 306 END
Chapter 306 END
Scarlett's POV
Gabriel led me through the manor's corridors, but instead of heading toward the main ballroom where we'd left the party, he guided me toward the east wing. As we approached the doors, I could hear voices inside - excited, expectant murmurs.
"Gabriel, what's going on?"
He stopped in front of the ornate double doors, his eyes sparkling with mischief and something deeper. "I told you I had something better planned than City Hall."
The doors opened, and I gasped.
The ballroom had been transformed into something from a fairy tale. Thousands of white roses cascaded from every surface, their petals scattered across polished marble floors. Champagne-colored balloons floated near the vaulted ceiling, and the crystal chandeliers had been dimmed to cast everything in warm, golden light.
But it wasn't the decorations that made my breath catch. It was the people - Dad and Mom, Alice, all the Langley family members, and what seemed like half of New York society, all turned toward us with anticipation written across their faces.
"Gabriel, what is this?"
Instead of answering, he walked me to the center of the room, then did something that stopped my heart entirely.
Gabriel Rothschild, CEO of one of the world's most powerful financial empires, dropped to one knee in front of three hundred of New York's elite.
The room fell completely silent.
He pulled out a ring box - not just any ring box, but one that clearly held something spectacular. When he opened it, the diamond inside caught the light and threw rainbows across the white roses.
"Scarlett Langley," his voice carried clearly through the vast space, strong and sure and full of emotion. "Will you marry me? This time for real, this time with our whole hearts."
The silence stretched for exactly three heartbeats, then the entire room erupted.
"Say yes!" Alice called out, clapping her hands.
"Answer him!" someone else shouted.
"He's been planning this for weeks!" Zoey added with a laugh.
But I barely heard them. I was looking down at Gabriel - this man who'd started as my unwanted husband and become the center of my universe. This man who'd stood by me through battles with dark organizations and family revelations and every complicated piece of my multiple identities.
"Yes," I said, and my voice cracked with emotion. "Yes, I will marry you. This time completely willingly."
The crowd's cheer was deafening as Gabriel slipped the ring onto my finger. It was perfect - a classic solitaire setting with a stone so clear it seemed to hold starlight. As he stood and pulled me into his arms, rose petals began falling from hidden mechanisms in the ceiling, creating a shower of white and pink around us.
"Thank you," Gabriel whispered against my ear as he held me close, "for giving me a chance to prove I deserve your future."
"Thank you for being patient while I figured out that you were worth the risk."
We were about to kiss when two small bodies crashed into our legs.
"Mommy! Daddy!" Liam and Luna wrapped their arms around us, bouncing with excitement. "We want a real family now! A real wedding and everything!"
Looking down at their bright faces, then up at Gabriel's tender expression, I felt something settle in my chest - a peace I'd never experienced before. "Then that's exactly what we'll have."
---
In a quieter corner of the ballroom, Calista watched the celebration with a wistful smile. The past few days had been transformative for her. With the liquid chip removed and her sister slowly recovering, she was finally free to make her own choices.
"Beautiful ceremony," Damon Holton said, appearing beside her with two glasses of champagne.
"Very romantic," she agreed, accepting the glass. "Gabriel really loves her."
Damon moved closer, his voice dropping low. "You know, Calista, there's something I never told you. When we first met, you were still operating as Silver Fox. I was your partner on that mission in Budapest."
Calista's eyes widened in surprise. "You were? But I thought..."
"I've been in love with you for three years," he said simply. "All this time, through everything with the organization, through your recovery - I've been waiting for the right moment to tell you."
She stared at him, processing this revelation. "So our engagement wasn't just business?"
"Not for me. Never for me."
Without hesitation, Calista rose on her tiptoes and kissed him. When they broke apart, tears were flowing down her cheeks.
"I never thought," she whispered, "that someone could love me after everything I've done, everything I've been through."
"We've all been through hell," Damon said, touching her face gently. "What matters is who we choose to be now."
---
Two days later, Gabriel and I were walking along a private beach in Hawaii, enjoying our first real vacation in... well, ever. The sound of waves was soothing, and for the first time in years, I wasn't looking over my shoulder for threats.
Gabriel's phone buzzed with a message. He glanced at it, then started laughing.
"What?"
He showed me the screen. It was a photo from Master Phoenix - a picture of her and Master Thunder standing together on what looked like a mountain overlook, both of them smiling like teenagers.
The message read: Congratulations on finding your happy ending. Treasure each other, and don't waste decades being stubborn like we did.
"I'm happy for them," I said, leaning into Gabriel's warmth as we continued our walk.
"I'm happy for us," Gabriel replied, stopping to turn me toward him. The setting sun painted everything golden around us. "No more conspiracies, no more hidden identities, no more people trying to tear us apart."
"Just us," I agreed.
"Just us, and whatever future we want to build together." He pulled me closer, his voice full of promise. "I love every version of you, Scarlett. The doctor, the fighter, the mother, the woman who saved my life in more ways than I can count."
"I love you too," I said, and meant it with every fiber of my being. "All of you - the ruthless CEO, the protective father, the man who learned how to put family first."
As Gabriel kissed me with the Hawaiian sunset painting the sky in brilliant oranges and pinks, I realized that all the trials and dangers and complicated paths had led us exactly where we needed to be.
Together. Finally, completely, forever together.
Our story had begun with deception and necessity, but it was ending with truth and choice and love powerful enough to overcome anything the world could throw at us.
And I couldn't wait to see what we'd build next.
---
"From this day forward, we choose each other every single day. And that, my love, makes all the difference."
