Chapter 371 Success
Chapter 374 Evergreen Courtyard
"Vivian, fix your attitude!" Gabriel roared.
Vivian wasn't scared at all. She even smoothed her hair. "My attitude is perfectly fine."
"Deputy General Lopez, you came to Valensia under General Scott's orders, fired guns, and killed people. Won't that cause international disputes too?"
Gabriel frowned. He stepped forward, about to speak, but Naomi stopped him. "Tell us your conditions."
"Ms. Kennedy is smart. Every minute you delay, those dozen people are in more danger. Ms. Kennedy should know that once they leave the sterile environment, some patients won't last long."
Vivian leaned back comfortably in her chair, chin raised high.
"I want you to release me and take me to international waters. I need a speedboat. Once I'm in international waters, I'll tell you where these people are."
"Why should we trust you?" Gabriel clenched his fists. "What if you run away and don't tell us the address?"
"I'm an international fugitive now. I'll cooperate with you. Besides, these people are proof of my experimental success, showing I really do have exceptional abilities, don't I?"
Vivian looked extremely smug. When she looked at Naomi, she even had a superior air about her.
"Naomi, you and your mother are both geniuses, and you inherited the witch doctor abilities too. So what?"
"I know your dad never handed over his research results, but that's okay. Quantity leads to quality. As long as enough people participate in the experiments, a few will survive. That's my success."
"A 13% success rate—that's a major medical achievement. I'll become famous. Once I leave Avalonia, you have no idea how many people will be fighting to have a genius like me."
Naomi's phone vibrated. She glanced at the message, then stood up.
"Who would want an idiot like you? Just wait to pay for your crimes with your life."
After speaking, Naomi turned and left. Both Vivian and Gabriel were stunned.
"Don't you care about those people's lives?" Vivian tried to stand up but was pushed back down by the guard.
Naomi walked to the door, turned with a smile, "Evergreen Courtyard in the suburbs. Wait for your death."
Seeing Naomi leave, Gabriel glanced at the disbelieving Vivian, then immediately turned to follow her out.
"Ms. Kennedy, are you sure? Evergreen Courtyard?"
"Yes. The Cavendish Corporation's bodyguards and the police are already on their way. Let's go now."
Naomi nodded while typing something on her phone.
Gabriel asked hesitantly, "Ms. Kennedy, how did you know? Vivian didn't say anything."
"She said everything." Naomi smiled. "She mentioned a 13% success rate with 13 survivors, which means she recruited 100 volunteers initially. Just check for large medical experiments with hundreds of volunteer signatures back then—there's only one such project in the whole province."
"She also said these people can't be away from the sterile environment for long. A sterile chamber that can hold a dozen people, in a hospital with foreign investment—there's only one, Evergreen Courtyard. Isn't it easy for Jonathan to find them?"
Gabriel looked at Naomi admiringly. "Ms. Kennedy, you're so smart. Let's go now! We're closer!"
They immediately got in the car and headed for Evergreen Courtyard.
By the time Naomi and Gabriel arrived at Evergreen Courtyard, it was completely dark.
Most of the elderly residents were already asleep, though doctors and nurses could still be seen.
Jonathan had also arrived with his people. He walked straight to Naomi. "Go in now?"
Naomi nodded, but Gabriel stopped her. "Ms. Kennedy, are you sure about this place? It just looks like an ordinary nursing home."
Vivian's words had reminded Gabriel—he was here representing Larry, and if anything went wrong, it might implicate Larry.
"Trust her." Jonathan patted Gabriel's shoulder, then waved his hand. Immediately, dozens of people rushed into the nursing home.
Naomi and Jonathan walked in side by side. A middle-aged nurse at the reception desk looked at them in panic. "What are you doing? This is a nursing home!"
Clyde stepped forward, looked at her name tag, then showed his credentials. "Ember, I'm a police officer. Where's your sterile chamber?"
"How could we possibly have a sterile chamber here?" Nurse Ember shook her head repeatedly. "We only provide basic medical services. We don't have hospital sterile chambers."
As she spoke, her fingers rubbed around the desk.
Naomi quickly grabbed Ember's hand. "What are you trying to do?"
Gabriel immediately went around and found an alarm button under the desk. "Who are you trying to notify? The police are right here."
Ember tried to struggle, but Naomi's ring needle had already pierced an acupuncture point on her arm. She instantly lost control of her arm. "You, what are you doing? You're from the Harpers family too. Are you going to betray the family?"
"So you do know me." Naomi sneered. "Don't do anything stupid. Your little bit of witch doctor healing won't help you. Ember Harpers?"
When Naomi first came in, she noticed Ember had the same hand tremor problem as Lloyd. But Ember looked under forty. If it wasn't from illness, it must be neurological disease from practicing witch doctor healing.
Ember narrowed her eyes at Naomi, then at the group behind her, finally deflating and pointing toward the elevator. "Basement."
"Watch her!" Naomi handed her to Gabriel, then followed the police into the elevator with Jonathan.
The numbers kept changing: -1, -2.
The moment the elevator doors opened, everyone gasped.
Pure white corridors, harsh white lights, and large glass panels. Behind the glass were a dozen hospital beds, each patient restrained to their bed, surrounded by complex monitoring equipment.
Clyde cursed under his breath. "Shit, this is imprisonment! This is insane!"
Naomi frowned. "Don't be rash. Let me go in first to check the situation."
Jonathan grabbed her wrist. She gently patted his hand. "These people's condition is strange. Vivian said they were cured patients, but we can't completely trust that."
If they had been cured, there would be no need to live in a sterile chamber.
Naomi had a bad feeling. She changed into protective gear and entered with several officers, while Jonathan watched her tensely through the glass.
Naomi checked each patient's condition, her breathing growing heavier.
Clyde counted them one by one. "One, two, three... twelve. Why are there only twelve? Weren't there supposed to be thirteen?"
Just as he was having someone check for any they'd missed, Naomi pressed the intercom button on the door.
"None of these people can leave the sterile chamber. Their immune systems have collapsed. Notify their families."
