Chapter 367 Reaching Cooperation
Chapter 370 Dad
Everett took a pill from the pendant on his necklace and swallowed it.
Naomi instinctively asked, "What did you just take?"
"Nothing." Everett looked at her kindly, then reached out as if to touch her hair, but thinking better of it, he pulled his hand back.
"Don't worry, Naomi. I'll get you out of here."
Everett handed Naomi over to Jonathan. "Watch her closely in a bit, and leave immediately."
Everett then took off his wedding ring and pulled off the necklace around his neck. Only then did Naomi notice there was a diamond ring on the necklace too.
"These are the wedding rings your mother and I wore. From now on, let them stay with you."
Everett smiled with unusual tenderness, his eyes welling up.
Naomi seemed to understand what he was about to do. She gripped the rings tightly in her hand. "Wait, you..."
"Someone's broken in, get over here!"
"Hurry, hurry!"
"Don't let them escape!"
There was commotion outside, along with the sound of chaotic footsteps.
"They're here." Everett's voice was suddenly no longer weak, and his face regained color.
Everett loaded his gun. "Jonathan, you guys take Naomi and leave through the back door."
He quickly stood on the bed and reached up to the lampshade above the headboard, pulling out a small memory card.
"This contains some of your mother's and my previous research. I deliberately modified the data on the latest cell regeneration chamber, so the treatment effect isn't optimal."
"I believe with your intelligence, you'll know how to adjust the equipment data. You're our daughter—all of this should be yours."
"And the money I've left behind—the overseas bank account password is your mother's birthday."
As soon as Everett finished speaking, Gabriel rushed in. "Mr. Cavendish, we need to go. There are too many people outside, they must have called the police."
"They wouldn't dare." Everett was the first to rush out the door. "I'll cover the rear. You guys go. They won't dare kill me."
"Dad!"
Ella was still tied to the cabinet, constantly pulling at the handcuffs on her wrists. The gag in her mouth had fallen out at some point.
"Dad, I'm Ella. I'm your daughter!"
"That woman is fake. I'm your and Mom's daughter! Mom said that day..."
"That day we had nothing. You're not my daughter. I've known all along."
Everett's voice choked up. "I've known all along, but I deceived myself, thinking that if my daughter were alive, she should be like this."
Everett looked at Ella, then resolutely turned his head. "You guys go now!"
Everett was the first to rush out. Gabriel also drew his knife. "We didn't bring guns. Everyone be careful."
The men Gabriel brought were all skilled special forces soldiers, and Jonathan's combat skills weren't weak either. Even with Naomi, they weren't slowed down at all.
Looking at the burly men charging at them, Naomi gripped the rings in her hand, then quickly slipped them onto her and Jonathan's fingers.
Jonathan froze for a moment, then his lips curved slightly. "Don't worry, everything will be fine. We'll get back safely."
"What about him?" Naomi asked worriedly as she ran.
Just as she thought, blood relations were the most mysterious connection in the world. Even though she and Everett had never met, they recognized each other the moment they saw one another.
She had never felt it so strongly before—she knew he was her biological father.
And he knew Naomi was his biological daughter.
That's why Everett swallowed the pill that would temporarily restore his mobility without hesitation, even though it might kill him afterward. He wouldn't let Naomi fall into those people's hands.
He ran faster and faster. With him blocking the way up front, no one dared to act rashly, and Naomi's group quickly broke through the encirclement.
The compound was indeed very large. If it weren't for Gabriel's exceptional memory and Everett's cooperation, they couldn't have reached the central plaza so quickly.
And a helicopter was hovering above.
Jonathan looked up. "Xander's helicopter. Let's go!"
The helicopter lowered a rope ladder. A special forces soldier quickly climbed up, and in no time he was on the plane, shouting down loudly, "Safe!"
He kept making hand signals, indicating for the people below to come up.
More and more guards appeared from the factory, all rushing toward them.
Everett struggled to pull out his last bullets. "Jonathan, take Naomi back. I'll cover the rear."
Everett turned his head and smiled at Naomi. "Good girl, you go up first, don't let..." His voice paused, and he finally said with difficulty, "Don't let me get distracted."
Seeing his smile and thinking of the pill he'd just taken, Naomi suddenly realized something.
"Wait, come with us. Let's go together!"
Gunfire rang out from behind.
The factory guards didn't dare let Everett escape. They couldn't worry about anything else now and opened fire directly.
Everett pushed Naomi aside. "Go now! I'll come up in a bit. Listen to me!"
"But..."
"No buts!" He roared with all his might. The helicopter's propeller was deafening, making everyone's hearing much worse.
But Naomi still heard his final words: "Live well."
Naomi was practically dragged onto the rope ladder by Jonathan. She kept looking down, and Everett's figure became smaller and smaller. Naomi's heart grew heavier and heavier.
"Jonathan, why isn't he coming up?"
On the ground, besides Everett, only Gabriel remained.
Gabriel had no gun and could only throw whatever he could find.
Seeing more and more people closing in, and what seemed to be police sirens, Gabriel shouted, "Mr. Harpers, you get on the plane first. Give me the handgun!"
"No need. You go."
Everett's voice was hoarse. When he turned around, even Gabriel was startled. "You... what happened to you?"
Blood was flowing from Everett's nose and mouth, and even the corners of his eyes were bleeding.
But he seemed completely unaware, still smiling at Gabriel. "I was dying anyway. Taking that pill will speed up my death, and I don't want to live anymore."
"Thank you for letting me see Naomi one last time. Thank you very much."
Everett's voice was somewhat lonely, and his eyes gradually moistened.
He could barely hear the voices around him anymore because his ears had started bleeding too, but he insisted on saying, "Go quickly. As long as I stay, they won't make things difficult for you."
Everett pointed the gun at his own head, and instantly everything below went quiet.
Gabriel was about to say something when Everett roared, "Go!"
Seeing Everett bleeding even more, Gabriel gritted his teeth, turned, and climbed the rope ladder.
Naomi stared intently at the ground below, meeting Everett's upturned gaze, and finally called out that word: "Dad!"
Everett clearly couldn't hear anything anymore, and his eyes couldn't see very clearly either, but he just felt that he heard it.
He heard Naomi call him "Dad" one last time.
