Torn Vows and Silent Promises
Torn Vows and Silent Promises
Isabella’s POV
The air was too still.
The chandelier above me glittered like it mocked the tremble in my chest. My fingers pressed against the edge of the mahogany desk in Julien’s study, the one place I’d always found calm in this chaotic mansion. Not tonight.
Not after what I’d just heard. I broke from the kiss the moment his words registered in my head. The relieve of seeing Cabir quickly turning into anger as the two men again try to keep me in dark under the pretence of protecting me from the harsh truth. But I knew. I know Julien better now.I know that he loves me, I can see through the lies he tells to protect me now.
Julien stood across the room, his jaw tight, hands shoved into his pockets like he needed to hide the shake in them. The man who could command boardrooms and freeze a room with one glare couldn’t even look me in the eyes.
“You orchestrated the press,” I said, voice flat, controlled. “You fed stories to paint me as innocent. That the pregnancy was planned. That we were always real.”
His eyes flicked to mine, sharp with guilt and something else fear. I could see the pained look on Cabir's face too. I wanted to go over and comfort him, he suffered from hell too but I couldn't, not when they were so desperately trying to protect me by trying to keep me in the dark.
“I had to protect you,” he said.
“No,” I whispered, stepping forward, rage and heartbreak burning behind my ribs. “You had to control everything. Including me.”
His expression cracked. “I didn’t mean to—”
“I know,” I cut in. “But you did.”
Silence stretched. Outside, thunder growled in the distance. I crossed my arms, grounding myself.
“I trusted you, Julien. Even when everything told me not to. And now... you make choices for us without telling me. Again. You came here trying to make me go away from you, hate you, but I can't. This is exactly where I belong, where I feel safe, beside you. Stop pushing me away,”I could feel the anger grow inside me, tired of being pushed away, tired of being kept in the dark by him.
He closed the distance, not touching me, but close enough that I could feel the heat from his skin. “Do you think I don’t torture myself over it?”
I saw it then, the bruised weariness in his eyes. The man who held himself together for me was unraveling. “I’m scared too,” he said softly. “I’m terrified. Of losing you. Of failing our child. Of repeating my father’s mistakes.”
That broke something in me. Cabir swiftly left the room, wincing and limping a little making me want to go after him but right now I needed time with my husband. To set things right between us.
I reached for him, fingers tangling in the fabric of his shirt. He pulled me into his arms so tightly I thought we might become one body. I buried my face against his chest, inhaling the familiar scent of his cologne mixed with something new - the bitter tang of anxiety. Our bodies melting into each other. His lips found my neck, desperate, reverent.
“I’m sorry,” he murmured. “Tell me what to do. I’ll do anything. Just don’t shut me out.” His facade washed away as soon as he was in my arms. My anger did too.
I lifted his face. “Then stop trying to be my shield. Be my partner.”
His nod was shaky, but real.
We kissed, not out of passion but the need to feel. He carried me to the couch, his hands gentle but urgent. My dress slipped down my arms, exposing skin he worshipped with slow, aching kisses. His fingers stroked my belly, reverent. I shivered against the feel of his palm against my skin as his hand slipped lower, slowly, increasing my anticipation. He pushed my panties to the side as his palm cupped my sex for a moment before his thumb found my clit, making me grasp. He circled my clit with his thumb following a well versed pattern making me soak in desire for him. He cupped my face with one hand, his hold just tight enough to keep me from looking away. He maintained steady eye contact, taking in every grasp and moan of mine, his eyes laced with lust while his thumb kept working on my clit, making me even wetter and on the verge of coming apart. My legs shaked as I reached the peak, his strong hold on me a reminder that I was his and a proud smirk on his face that made me blush as the high wore off slowly. I could feel the bulge in his pants against my stomach as my own desire to have him grew, the warmth in my stomach growing.
“You’re everything I never deserved,” he whispered, his hold on my face becoming tender as he caressed my face. “But I’m going to fight to deserve you every day.”
His mouth found mine again. I opened to him, wrapped my legs around him, needing to anchor us both. He entered me slowly, forehead against mine, both of us trembling. Each thrust was a confession, each gasp a promise. He took his time, mapped every part of me like he was memorizing what he could lose.
When we shattered together, I clung to him as if the storm outside had crept into our world.
Afterward, I curled against his chest. For a moment, we just breathed.
Then he whispered, “I need to tell you everything. About Stracy. Jaimin. My father. Leyla didn’t act alone.”
I froze. Lifted my head.
“Tell me everything,” I said. “Then we end it. Together.”
He nodded, and the truth spilled out, quiet, dark, and damning. The realization was nauseating. The pieces of the puzzle, disjointed and confusing for so long, began to slot into place with a horrifying clarity: Layla's inexplicable hatred, the hidden lingerie, Stracy's nervous glances, the suspiciously convenient engagement with Cabir, even the accident. It all pointed to a meticulously crafted web of deceit. A cold shiver ran down my spine, but it wasn't from fear for myself. It was for Julien. And for our unborn child. The truth while raw and unsettling, forged a new kind of intimacy between us as we layed together, my head on his chest and his arms holding me tightly to himself. The playful banter, the teasing dominance, the passionate embraces – all had their place, but this shared threat, this mutual understanding of the insidious danger, deepened our connection into something profound and unbreakable.
"We need to be smart, Bella," Julien pulled back slightly, his hands cupping my face, his eyes searching mine with an intensity that promised protection. "More cautious than ever. They want to hurt you. They want to hurt us." His thumb brushed over my still-flat stomach, a gesture that brought a fresh wave of terror and fierce determination. "But I won't let them."
As he spoke, I didn’t flinch.
Because I wasn’t the scared girl from months ago.
I was the woman who was going to help bring them all down.
