Chapter 89-The Story of Yesterday (Part2)

Chapter 89-The Story of Yesterday (Part2)
Austin POV

According to Daddy’s story after we found Axel:

Amy, our real mother—Adeline—and Faith’s parents had been long-time friends.

Daddy and Mommy had also been in a relationship for years. When they learned that Amy was being arranged to marry Daddy, Daddy begged not to proceed, because he already loved someone else. But Amy insisted on continuing the engagement after discovering Daddy’s family was wealthy. At first, it seemed her motives were purely financial, but eventually, she learned to love Daddy—and that’s why her heartbreak was so deep when Daddy left her.

She temporarily distanced herself and became pregnant with her former boyfriend. That was also when she discovered Mommy was pregnant with Daddy’s child. This was hidden from everyone, with the help of Faith’s parents.

Unbeknownst to all, Mommy’s doctor had colluded with Amy. When Mommy gave birth, Amy took one of us—Axel. That same doctor also killed Mommy, making it appear as a birth complication.

Amy brought Axel to the U.S. That was also where she gave birth to her own child, Justine, who was then taken by her father.

Amy returned to the Philippines. Daddy publicly adopted me from an orphanage. Amy pretended to believe and accept this, just to get close to Daddy again.

All of this came to light through the doctor’s confession before he died of illness. He had deliberately summoned Daddy to confess all the sins so his soul could rest.

Eunice is Amy’s child with that doctor. Justine and Daphnie are her children with her former boyfriend. Amy thought Daddy didn’t know about them, but she had been secretly tracking him whenever he traveled abroad—for “business,” she claimed.

“You know, Faith, you wouldn’t have been orphaned so young if not for your meddling parents. Tsk tsk!” Amy said to Faith.

“What do you mean?” Faith asked, shocked.

“This is what happened,” Amy continued, seemingly unhinged. “They saw Axel back then and wanted to tell Greg immediately. Of course, I wouldn’t allow it. That would ruin my plan if everyone found out, right?”

“You caused the accident?” Faith shouted.

“Idiot! That wasn’t an accident, Faith. It was deliberate, to silence them,” she said, proud of herself.

“You monster! You heartless beast!” Faith screamed, trying to rush at Amy but was held back by her men.

“You’re hurting my wife!” I shouted.

“Do you realize this, Austin?” she turned to me, her eyes a mix of pain and rage.

“I’m sorry, hon,” I could only murmur.

“Wait, there’s more! You’re all about to die anyway, so you might as well hear the truth. Let me tell a story,” she began, coldly, as if life no longer mattered.

“Daphnie… did you know Austin isn’t Alexander’s father?” she said, turning to my daughter, eagerly anticipating her reaction.

“Yes, Mom. Austin told me already. And I hate you for that! What kind of mother uses her own child with a man while recording it?” Daphnie shouted, full of anger and disgust.

“You wanted it too, didn’t you?” Amy replied, laughing like a madwoman. “Quiet now, my dear daughter. I’m not finished. No one speaks! Only I do. If you don’t want to know too soon.”

She raised her hand. “Boys, if anyone speaks, shoot immediately.” Her men aimed at us even more aggressively. Even the two children who had been crying were silenced by fear.

“The video I gave Faith worked. She disappeared from Austin’s life,” Amy boasted. “But something happened, so I had to remove your parents, Faith. And because I was obsessed with your family, I put my daughter, Justine, into your life.”

She grinned.

“The plan was for you to fall in love with him, then be abandoned. Simple. But it turned out he fell for your sister and had a child without my knowledge! And you kept my grandchild away from me.” Her face darkened, voice trembling with anger.

“It’s your fault I almost killed my own grandchild!” she yelled at Faith, causing my wife to collapse.

“Mommy, stop blaming others for your sins,” Justine interjected. “You almost caused my child’s death, yet you still don’t stop.”

“Amy, direct your hatred at me. Don’t involve the innocent,” Daddy shouted.

“You’re so stubborn! Boys!” Amy shouted at her men. They immediately aimed at Daddy and Justine. Two gunshots rang out.

“No!”

“No!”

Axel and I shouted in unison. Being closer to Daddy, Axel shielded him from the bullets. Luckily, he was wearing a bulletproof vest, though the impact knocked him down. Daddy immediately attended to him. Justine fell to the grass, bloodied.

“Kuya!!” Daphnie screamed, rushing to her sibling.

“J-Justine!” Amy shouted in disbelief. “Why did you shoot my child? Are you stupid?” she yelled at the shooter.

“Your order, madam. Anyone who spoke, I just followed the command,” the man replied coldly.

“You beast!” she shouted, shooting him twice.

“You’ll all die! Who goes first? Faith? Austin? Axel? No, Greg should go first. He’s responsible for all this!” she ranted, pointing her gun at us in turn.

“No. I’ll protect your loved ones first, Greg. So you feel the pain before you disappear. Yes, exactly! That’s how it will be. Hahaha!” She seemed completely deranged.

“I’ll start with Faith. Along with the twins.”

She aimed at Faith. I saw her blanch, taking a step back as her belly was exposed.

“No!” I whispered, but my body moved faster than my mind. I ran to block the bullet, right as she pulled the trigger.

The bullet struck my chest. I staggered from the impact. It still hurt despite my bulletproof vest. But even without it, I would have taken the shot to save my wife and our children.

“Austin!” Faith cried, kneeling beside me, hands trembling, tears streaming.

“I’m okay, hon,” I said, winking, trying to calm her, though my heart pounded wildly.

But the nightmare wasn’t over.

“Why won’t you die, Faith?” Amy screamed. “You survived at the cemetery too. This is the last bullet. I’ll make sure you and your twins disappear!”

She pointed the gun at Faith again.

“Stop it, Mom,” I pleaded.

But her voice echoed:

“Don’t call me Mom! You’re not my child!”

I didn’t notice Daphnie approaching. Suddenly, she lunged and wrestled the gun from Amy.

“Enough, Mommy! Please! Let’s leave. Start over. Far from them.” she begged.

“Don’t interfere! Leave! Take Jairee!” Amy shouted.

The struggle continued until the gun went off.

We all froze.

And I felt like I’d been doused in ice when I saw Daphnie fall to the grass, blood spurting from her abdomen.

“No, no… Daphnie!” her mother screamed, trembling, collapsing beside her child.

“I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to, my child…” she wailed.

Axel and I exchanged a glance—enough to understand each other. Taking advantage of the distraction, we disarmed the two men closest to us.

The police arrived just in time, capturing Amy’s remaining men within seconds.

The rescuers quickly attended to Justine and Daphnie. Both were still breathing but struggling. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it—their injuries were fatal during transport.

I also brought Faith to the hospital for evaluation. Due to extreme stress and exhaustion, she was immediately put on IV fluids to regain strength.

As she lay sleeping peacefully, I noticed Jairee beside me, clutching the hem of my shirt.

“Is Mommy okay, Daddy?” she asked softly, eyes full of fear.

I knelt to meet her gaze, gently stroking her hair.

“Yes, baby. Mommy’s okay,” I said calmly. “Time for you to sleep too, okay?”

She nodded, still anxious, and slowly climbed into the bed beside Faith. I adjusted their blanket, watching over them. When Jairee finally closed her eyes, I let out a long, relieved breath—the first since the chaos that nearly took my family from me.

I put Kim and her child in a separate hospital room to rest. I took care of them first, as they were exhausted and stressed from the ordeal.

“Tomorrow, I’ll escort you home, Kim. I’m sorry for everything that happened,” I said.

She nodded, still deep in thought and exhausted.

Daddy and Axel took care of Justine and Daphnie’s bodies.

I quietly returned to Faith and Jairee’s room. For the first time in hours, I felt the calm joy of being with my family.
