Chapter 85 The Compound Falls

Chapter 85 The Compound Falls
LISA'S POV

Everything happened at once and my mind could barely process the chaos happening around me. Daniel's wolf tore into Viktor with twenty years of rage behind every strike. Rogues attacked from all sides and the sound of snarling filled the stone room. The ceiling collapsed from Marcus Krane's assault outside and chunks of concrete crashed down around us. Dust filled the air until I could barely see three feet in front of me.

Adrian broke his chains like they were made of paper and I realized they must have been fake or sabotaged. He shifted mid movement and fought his way toward Emma who was still kneeling and vulnerable. Ryan crawled toward me across the floor and even though he was human now and defenseless he kept moving. He reached a dead rogue near my feet and searched the body with shaking hands until he found a key. He unlocked my chains and the silver cuffs fell away from my burned wrists.

"Can you shift?" Ryan's voice was rough and breathless. "The baby. Will it be safe?"

"I will be careful." I shifted partially and felt my wolf rise just enough to give me strength and speed. I kept the pregnancy protected and felt the baby's heartbeat steady inside me. Ryan and I fought our way toward Emma through rogues who were too distracted by the warriors pouring in from outside to focus on us properly.

Adrian reached Emma first and cut her bonds with claws that were still bloody from fighting. Emma grabbed onto him desperately and buried her face against his shoulder. "You came for me."

"Of course we came." Adrian's voice was gentle despite everything happening around us. He positioned himself to protect all three of us now. Me, Emma, and Ryan who could not defend himself anymore without his wolf.

Daniel was still fighting Viktor one on one in the center of the chaos. It was vicious and personal in a way that made everyone else give them space. Brother against the man who had shaped him through torture and abuse. Viktor was older and more experienced with decades of fighting behind him. But Daniel was fueled by twenty years of rage that had been building since childhood.

Marcus Krane's warriors breached the compound from multiple entry points and the tide turned decisively in our favor. Rogues who followed Viktor out of loyalty fought to the death because they knew there would be no mercy. Rogues who had been coerced into service surrendered immediately. It became less a battle and more an execution of Viktor's entire operation collapsing around him.

Viktor saw it happening and snarled at Daniel with blood running down his face. "This is not over. I will always come back. You cannot kill an idea."

"No." Daniel's voice was cold and final. "You will not."

He killed Viktor quickly and efficiently with no ceremony or hesitation. Viktor fell and the ritual's dark energy that had been building dissipated like smoke in wind. The ceremonial bowls shattered and the mixture of blood and essence spilled across the floor.

I collapsed suddenly and the strain of everything was too much. My legs gave out and I felt myself falling. Adrian caught me before I hit the ground and his face showed alarm. "Get her medical attention right now!"

Ryan was beside me immediately with human hands on my face. "Stay with me. Please. I just gave up my wolf for you. Do not you dare die on me now."

My vision blurred at the edges and everything looked soft and distant. I looked at Ryan and really looked at him for the first time since the ritual. He had sacrificed everything that made him who he was. For me and our baby. For a future I had not even asked him to believe in.

"Why would you do that?" My voice came out as barely a whisper.

"Because I love you more than I love being a wolf." Ryan said it simply like the answer was obvious. "I always have loved you more than anything else. Even when I was too stupid to show it properly."

My eyes closed against my will and I felt my consciousness slipping. I was aware of movement and being carried. Marcus Krane's voice giving orders somewhere above me. A medical team working on my injuries with urgent efficiency. I was aware of my baby's heartbeat inside me still strong and still fighting to survive.

I was going to survive this. We were going to survive this. All of us.

When I finally passed out it was not from injury or blood loss. It was from exhaustion and grief and the crushing weight of realizing that Ryan had just proved he loved me more completely than anyone ever had. He gave up his wolf. His identity. His place in the pack. Everything. For me.

I woke in a hospital room three days later and the first thing I saw was Ryan. Still human and vulnerable. He was asleep in a chair beside my bed with his head tilted at an angle that would give him a neck ache. Emma was curled up on a cot nearby and her breathing was deep and even. Adrian stood guard at the door like he had appointed himself our protector.

On my other side Daniel sat with his hand over mine. Keeping watch like he used to do when we were children before everything got complicated and violent. Before our father sold him and our mother died and the pack fell apart.

My family. Broken and complicated and scarred by everything we had been through. But here. All of them here. For me.

I tried to move my hand and Daniel's eyes opened immediately. He looked exhausted but relieved and when he saw me awake his whole face changed. "Lisa. Thank God. How do you feel?"

"Like I got hit by a truck." My voice was hoarse from not using it for days. "The baby?"

"Fine. Heartbeat is strong. Doctor says you both came through remarkably well considering." Daniel squeezed my hand gently. "You scared us. You have been unconscious for three days."

Ryan stirred at the sound of our voices and when he saw me awake he moved so fast he almost fell out of the chair. "Lisa. You are okay. You are really okay."

"I am okay." I looked at him and felt tears burning behind my eyes. "You gave up your wolf. Ryan. You did not have to do that."

"Yes I did." His voice was firm and he took my other hand. "I would do it again. I would do it a thousand times. You and our baby are worth more than any wolf could ever be worth."

Emma woke up and started crying when she saw me conscious. Adrian smiled from his position at the door. Daniel looked between Ryan and me with something like understanding in his expression. My family gathered around my hospital bed and for the first time in weeks I felt safe.
