Chapter 98 – Tangled Hearts, Unbreakable Bond
The morning sun filtered softly through the wide French windows of the master bedroom, casting a golden glow on the elegant space. Elena stirred slowly, her cheek pressed against Kian’s chest. His heartbeat was steady beneath her ear, strong and reassuring, a rhythm that had become her sanctuary.
For a long moment, she didn’t move. She just breathed him in—the faint scent of his cologne clinging to his skin, mingled with the warmth of sleep. This was home. Not the grand mansion. Not the wealth. But him.
Kian’s hand shifted, instinctively tightening around her waist as though he feared she would slip away. His lashes fluttered open, revealing eyes that were still hazy with sleep but softened the instant they found her.
“You’re awake,” he murmured, his voice low and husky, the kind of sound that made Elena’s heart flutter despite how many years she had known him.
She lifted her head slightly, her lips curving into a smile. “So are you.”
Kian reached up, brushing strands of hair away from her face. “I never sleep deeply when you’re in my arms. I’m too afraid it might be a dream.”
Elena laughed softly, though her eyes misted at his tenderness. “Then I must be your longest dream, Mr. CEO.”
He smirked, rolling her gently beneath him. “A dream I will never allow anyone to wake me from.”
Her giggle melted into a soft gasp as he kissed her, slow and lingering, as if he wanted to pour every unsaid word into her lips. The world outside didn’t matter—only this sacred space they created each morning.
But even in this serenity, shadows still lingered.
When he finally pulled back, Kian rested his forehead against hers. “Elena… there are things in our past, threads we still haven’t fully untangled. I don’t want those shadows to ever touch you again.”
She touched his cheek gently, sensing the weight behind his words. “You mean my family, don’t you? My father’s schemes, my mother’s coldness… all of it.”
Kian’s jaw tightened. “Yes. They hurt you before, and they’ll try again if we let them. I can forgive many things, Elena, but never anyone who dares to make you cry.”
Her chest tightened at his protectiveness. “I don’t want revenge, Kian. I just want peace. But if peace means standing by your side against the world, then that’s what I’ll do.”
His eyes darkened with emotion. He kissed her again, this time fiercer. “You don’t stand by me. You stand with me. Everything I have, everything I am, belongs to you.”

Later that morning, as Elena prepared for a charity luncheon hosted by the city’s elite wives, Kian insisted on driving her personally.
“I have a perfectly good driver, you know,” she teased as she slipped into her elegant white dress.
“And yet,” Kian said smoothly as he adjusted his cufflinks, “no one will guard you as fiercely as I do. Don’t argue, sweetheart.”
The way he called her “sweetheart” still made her cheeks warm. She bit back a smile, deciding not to argue further.
When they arrived at the hotel ballroom, whispers immediately rippled among the crowd. Elena had always been admired for her beauty, but now, standing beside Kian—the city’s most powerful CEO—her aura was dazzling. She was no longer just “Elena from the Alvarez family.” She was Mrs. Kian Reynolds.
Some of the older socialites greeted her with forced smiles, their envy barely concealed. Others approached warmly, eager to curry favor. But Elena carried herself with quiet confidence, her hand resting lightly on Kian’s arm. She didn’t need to speak much; her presence alone silenced doubts.
During the luncheon, a familiar figure appeared—her estranged mother, Vivian.
“Elena,” Vivian said smoothly, her lips curved but her eyes sharp. “I didn’t expect to see you here… glowing like this.”
Elena felt her body stiffen, but before she could reply, Kian’s hand slid over hers beneath the table, steadying her. His expression remained calm but his eyes were ice.
“My wife shines wherever she goes,” Kian said evenly. “With or without anyone’s approval.”
Vivian’s smile faltered for just a moment, but she recovered quickly. “Of course. I was merely… impressed.” She glanced at Elena again, as though calculating her next move.
Elena lifted her chin, her voice steady. “Thank you, Mother. I hope you enjoy the luncheon.”
The subtle dismissal left Vivian speechless, and she turned away with a tight smile.
Kian leaned toward Elena, whispering so only she could hear. “That was perfect. You don’t need to fight her battles anymore. Just let me shield you.”
Her throat tightened with emotion. “But Kian, what if the past keeps coming back? What if it hurts us?”
He kissed the back of her hand, his gaze steady. “Then let it come. As long as I’m here, no shadow will ever touch you. We’ll face it together.”

That night, after the day’s events, Elena and Kian returned home. The mansion was quiet, bathed in soft moonlight. Elena changed into a silk nightgown and stepped onto the balcony, the cool breeze brushing her skin.
Kian joined her moments later, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. He rested his chin on her shoulder. “What are you thinking about?”
She leaned against him, gazing at the stars. “About how far we’ve come. From childhood friends to this… Sometimes it feels unreal.”
He tightened his embrace. “Do you regret it? Any of it?”
She turned to face him, cupping his cheek. “Not for a second. Even if we had to walk through fire, Kian, as long as it led me to you—I’d do it all over again.”
His eyes burned with emotion. He kissed her deeply, lifting her into his arms and carrying her back inside. Their love was not just passion—it was a vow, renewed every day, to never let go.
And as they lay together that night, tangled in warmth and whispered promises, both knew the truth: no matter how many shadows lurked in the past, their bond was unbreakable.
Together, they would face everything.
