Chapter 97 – Tangled Fates, Entwined Hearts

The night outside was velvet-black, the city lights twinkling like a cascade of scattered diamonds. Elena stood by the balcony of their penthouse suite, the soft silk of her nightgown whispering against her skin as the cool breeze teased her hair. She hugged her arms around herself, not because she was cold, but because her heart was overwhelmed.

Behind her, Kian emerged from the shower, his tall frame cloaked in nothing but a towel wrapped lazily around his waist. Droplets of water slid down the firm ridges of his chest, catching the light and glistening like crystal beads. His gaze softened immediately when it landed on Elena’s slender figure silhouetted against the glass doors.

“Elena,” his voice was deep, rich, and low, like velvet. “What are you thinking so hard about?”

She didn’t turn at first. Her eyes stayed on the city below, her voice quiet, almost dreamy.
“Kian… sometimes I wonder if we were truly destined for each other. Ever since we were children, you’ve always been by my side. But destiny is such a fragile thing, isn’t it? What if we had taken different paths? Would we still be here?”

Kian’s steps were silent, but she felt him before she heard him. His warmth enveloped her as he came behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her back firmly into his chest. She gasped softly at the contact, the heat of his skin searing through her silk nightgown.

“There’s no what if, Elena,” Kian murmured against her ear, his breath hot and intoxicating. “Even if fate tried to separate us, I would fight the heavens themselves to find you. You are mine—always have been, always will be.”

Her lips parted, her breath catching as his words sank into her bones. His possessiveness, his devotion, his unshakable certainty—it always left her trembling.

“Kian…” she whispered, her voice shaky, “sometimes you say things that make my heart feel like it’s too full. What have I ever done to deserve you?”

He turned her gently in his arms until she was facing him. His fingers brushed along her jaw, tilting her chin up so she was forced to meet his stormy, smoldering gaze.

“You don’t deserve me, Elena,” he said, his tone fierce but tender. “It’s the other way around. I don’t know what I did in my past life to earn someone like you. But I’ll spend this life making sure you never doubt how much I need you.”

Her throat tightened, emotion burning in her chest. “Kian…”

Before she could say more, his lips descended on hers. It wasn’t a gentle kiss. It was hungry, demanding, desperate—like he wanted to consume her very soul. She clung to his shoulders as the world tilted beneath her, drowning in the passion that poured from him. His kiss was fire, his embrace unyielding, and her resistance melted away until she was nothing but liquid warmth in his arms.

When he finally broke the kiss, both of them were breathing heavily. His forehead rested against hers, his voice hoarse.
“Do you still doubt destiny, Elena?”

She shook her head weakly, tears shimmering in her eyes. “No. Not anymore.”

Kian smiled, though it was more of a dangerous curve of his lips. His hand slipped to her waist, fingers tracing the delicate silk. “Good. Because I’ll spend every day proving to you that you belong to me.”

Her blush deepened, but her heart soared. She leaned into his chest, letting the steady beat of his heart soothe her racing pulse.

But just as she melted in his embrace, a faint vibration buzzed from the coffee table. Kian’s phone.

He frowned, reluctant, but released her long enough to pick it up. Elena’s brows furrowed when she saw the name flashing across the screen.

Adrian.

Kian’s best friend, business partner—and lately, a man with too many secrets.

Kian swiped the call open, his voice clipped. “Adrian. This had better be important.”

Elena couldn’t hear the words on the other end, but she saw the way Kian’s jaw tightened, the storm darkening in his eyes.

After a long moment, he said coldly, “I’ll handle it. Don’t make a move until I say so.” Then he hung up.

“What happened?” Elena asked softly, worry seeping into her tone.

Kian pulled her back into his arms immediately, pressing a kiss to her temple as though to calm her. “Nothing you need to worry about, my love.”

But Elena wasn’t convinced. She had been by Kian’s side long enough to read the tension in his body. Something was brewing—something dangerous.

And though he wanted to shield her, she wasn’t the naive girl she used to be. She tightened her grip around him, whispering fiercely, “Kian, whatever it is, I want to face it with you. Don’t shut me out.”

His heart clenched at her words. He kissed her again, softer this time, reverent. “Elena… you don’t know how much I love you when you say things like that. But some shadows from the past… they’re mine to deal with.”

Her eyes searched his, filled with love and stubborn determination. “Then let me be your light, Kian. Always.”

His control snapped again. He lifted her into his arms effortlessly, carrying her toward their bedroom as she let out a startled gasp. His voice was low, husky, filled with unrestrained desire.

“If you insist on being my light, Elena… then tonight, I’ll show you how much I burn for you.”

The night stretched long, filled with whispered confessions, laughter, and the deep, consuming love that bound them tighter than any shadow ever could.

For no matter what enemies lurked outside, no matter what storms brewed in the business world, Kian and Elena knew one truth—they were each other’s forever.
