Chapter 96 love in the air

Chapter 96 love in the air
The city was bathed in a soft, golden haze as the last rays of sunlight kissed the glass towers. Elena stood by the balcony of their penthouse, a cup of warm tea in her hands, the steam curling lazily into the cool evening air. The distant hum of traffic mixed with the faint aroma of roses from the garden below. She felt the weight of the day ease off her shoulders — not because the work had ended, but because she knew he was coming home.

Kian.

Her husband.
Her protector.
Her love since childhood.

The thought alone brought an unconscious smile to her lips. It had been a whirlwind of a week, with board meetings, family dinners, and the press constantly circling them. Yet no matter how demanding life became, she knew the moment they were together, everything else would fade into the background.

She heard the sound of the front door unlocking. Her heart skipped a beat, the same way it always did whenever he returned, as though she was still that shy teenage girl stealing glances at him from across the schoolyard.

“Lena,” his deep, magnetic voice called softly.

She turned around, and there he was — tall, broad-shouldered, and effortlessly handsome in a navy suit that clung to him in all the right places. His tie was loosened, and his eyes, those stormy grey eyes, softened immediately upon meeting hers.

“You’re home,” she said, her voice warm but laced with relief.

“I’m always home when I’m with you,” he replied, setting down his briefcase. He crossed the room in long, purposeful strides, pulling her into his arms without another word.

The tea in her hands was forgotten as she melted into him, breathing in the familiar scent of his cologne mixed with the faint hint of rain. His embrace was firm but gentle, as though he feared the world might try to take her away if he didn’t hold her close enough.

“You’re late,” she murmured against his chest, her tone somewhere between a complaint and a caress.

“I know. The meeting ran longer than expected.” He leaned down, brushing his lips over her forehead. “But I couldn’t wait another minute to see you.”

Her cheeks warmed. “Smooth talker.”

“Only for you,” he said, a teasing glint in his eyes.

They moved to the sofa, where Kian loosened his suit jacket and rolled up his sleeves. Elena sat beside him, tucking her legs under herself, watching him with quiet adoration. She could tell he was tired — the faint crease between his brows, the subtle heaviness in his movements — but he never complained. That was Kian: strong, composed, unshakable in public, yet in the privacy of their home, he allowed himself to simply be hers.

She reached out, smoothing her hand over his forearm. “You’ve been working too hard.”

“And you’ve been worrying too much,” he countered.

“I can’t help it,” she admitted softly. “You take care of everyone… but who takes care of you?”

His gaze locked onto hers, intense yet filled with an emotion that made her breath hitch. “You do, Lena. Every single day.”

Her heart fluttered, a familiar ache of love swelling in her chest. She shifted closer until her knees brushed against his thigh. “Then let me take care of you tonight.”

A slow smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “What exactly do you have in mind?”

“Dinner,” she began, her tone playful. “A massage… maybe dessert.”

He raised a brow. “Dessert as in cake, or dessert as in… you?”

Her cheeks flushed crimson, but she didn’t look away. “Maybe both.”

Kian chuckled, a low, velvety sound that sent shivers down her spine. “You’re dangerous, Mrs. Hale.”

“And you love it,” she shot back.

Dinner was simple but intimate — pasta, wine, and the warm glow of candlelight dancing across the table. Kian reached over multiple times to brush his fingers against hers, as if he couldn’t bear even the smallest distance between them. Every time their eyes met, the air seemed to hum with unspoken promises.

After the last sip of wine, Elena led him to the bedroom. The city lights spilled through the floor-to-ceiling windows, wrapping them in a soft, golden embrace. She urged him to sit on the edge of the bed and slipped behind him, her hands gently working over the tense muscles of his shoulders.

Kian let out a low groan. “You’re too good at this. I might get addicted.”

“That’s the plan,” she whispered near his ear.

Her breath against his skin made him shiver. He reached back, capturing her hand and pulling her around to face him. “You know,” he murmured, “I think I’m already addicted. To you.”

His words made her heart race. “Kian…”

Before she could say more, he cupped her face and kissed her — deeply, fervently, as though he’d been starving for her all day. Her fingers curled into his shirt, the world tilting and narrowing down to just the two of them.

They fell back onto the bed, laughter and sighs mingling as their love spoke louder than words ever could. The language they shared was one only they could understand — the quiet glances, the tender touches, the way his hand always found hers in the dark.

Later, when they lay tangled in each other’s arms, Elena traced lazy circles on his chest. “Kian?”

“Mm?”

“Promise me something.”

“Anything.”

“Promise me that no matter what comes — the press, the business wars, the family drama — you’ll never let go of me.”

He tipped her chin up so she could see the sincerity blazing in his eyes. “Lena, I’ve loved you since we were kids. Nothing — and I mean nothing — will ever make me let go.”

Her vision blurred as tears filled her eyes. “I love you too. Always.”

Kian pressed his lips to her temple. “Then we’ll face everything together. Every storm, every challenge… I’ll be by your side.”

She smiled through her tears, feeling a deep, unshakable certainty that as long as they had each other, they could conquer the world.
