Chapter 11
Chapter 11
DIANA THORTON
When I returned home on Saturday night and after the call with Caroline, I had concluded that I would forget about everything that happened, with time; I just didn't know how long.
So what if he's six and a half feet tall, with intense wolfish metallic grey eyes, and muscles that would leave most women- including me- in a state of oblivion? So what if he has an ultra-alpha aura, and I can't stop thinking about Saturday night?
When he walked past me, it took a lot to resist the crazy urge to lean forward and inhale his scent. He's musky, manly, and with primal feral passion.
I can still feel the skin of his lips on my neck, the touch of his hands on my body, and the intensity of his stares into my eyes. He is etched on every part of my body.
What I did was all shades of wrong and as long as he doesn't know that it was me, it'll be a secret between Caroline and me. I would reminisce on that every single day and God be with the future guys I'll be with because Alex set the standard pretty high.
I spend the next hour or so locked away in my little cubby office, typing and reading documents, and not thinking about Alexander Stone
I did succeed for the most part but he was a big distraction. Something was also tense about him today. And yes, I do know when my boss is riled up without having him utter anything.
He's been on several phone calls all through the morning and even handed me the DND memo. I wonder what's wrong this time. It's not like he's searching for me right?
The thought made me scoff much to the fact that I may have genuinely wanted that but this isn't a Cinderella story. Men like Alexander should be my plaything even though I didn't have the luxury of having one. They don't do commitments, and sleeping with a stranger during a party is evidence of that fact. Besides I'm too curled up in my imperfect and complicated world to dream beyond sexual interactions with a man like Alex.
It takes a phone call to shut me out of my trance and make me realize my finger had typed plenty of Ds on the computer screen.
"Hey, Caroline" My acting skills need to be studied in a film school because that switch to excitement was on cue.
"I sent you a million texts and didn't get a reply. Check your WhatsApp!"
After hanging up, I quickly go on WhatsApp and click on Caroline's chat. There's an attached image.
After downloading, my eyes grow wide in shock. A picture of me kissing Alexander Stone on some gossip site with a rather interesting headline that made readers wonder if The City's Billionaire Bad Boy has found love again.
I cover my mouth to trap the gasp that already escaped. There's another link. I click on it and it leads me to a Youtube video of Sophia. She's having some sort of interview. I'm more shocked at the things she had to say. She was defending him and tagging me as an opportunist.
In her words "Men like Alexnder Stone will always be admired by many ladies. It's no surprise that some opportunists deem it fit to show theirs by kissing him. Alex is a gentleman and at such an event wouldn't want to embarrass this lady in particular. He's a sweet guy regardless of how sour things went between us. I still love and care for him and can only hope he finds the right person."
I mean I used to hype this lady and have nothing against her but to insult and call me an opportunist is just low. The only thing I was opportunistic about was the mutual passion we shared so unlike her, I am not siphoning anything materialistic.
Even after her unsolicited explanation, Alexander is still receiving backlash from the mass. Thank God my face wasn't shown else, I'd have had a big share of all that insult as well. No wonder he'd been riled up all day.
I shoot Caroline a call.
"What do I do?" I whisper
"Nothing. Your face isn't shown so that works in your favour. I'm sure it'll blow over soon."
Hopefully, thank God it's a masked party.
"I messed up, right?" I asked, uncertain of how to feel.
"You did what any other woman would have probably done. And it might paint you as an opportunist but even that isn't a bad thing depending on the context. You were only ignited by the moment and had sex. Simple!"
I look up in the direction of Alex's office and feel really bad for him mainly because I started this. I kissed him impulsively without thinking. I am the alpha of this whole mess.
Would you look at that, I used to hate my boss, and now I'm feeling sorry for him. The thought made me cringe a bit. Maybe this is payback for being so mean. It's legal to enjoy this as much as I feel sorry, right?
I knocked briefly before slightly opening the door and walking in.
"What?" His voice was dark and as such sent cold thrills down my body.
"I will be going out for lunch and wanted to ask if you'd need anything before I leave"
I usually don't ask for more errands but I just needed to see his face and bask in the comfort of enjoying his misfortune.
"I don't think you will have time for that lunch. I am sure that you are aware of what's happening currently and it might interest you to know that all hands are needed on deck to push the narrative in the company's favour."
I am not obligated to clean up your mess Mr stick up his butt, even though I was the main character.
"So for one, prepare the conference room for a meeting with the PD team. They better have a freaking masterplan product idea and also, do tell them that no one will be going home until the agenda for the meeting is met."
As much as I understand why Alex is mad because it's been nearly two years since La'belle launched a new product but, using harsh techniques like this won't bring out the best. But then again, who am I to tell a stuck-up boss how to run his business especially when his technique indeed brought him this far?
I simply nod.
Before heading out, I take a few heartbeats to look at him and my core ignited.
The ever homme fatale that is Alexander Stone.
My phone rings and it is Celeste. She must be in a frenzy of rage and going FBI mode to find out who the lady is - that's technically me.
