Chapter 8 — Evil witch
Jane's POV:
The sound of my alarm woke me up from my deep slumber. I narrowed my eyes at it as I lazily slammed my hand on its top, successfully shutting it up.
With a frustrated groan, I removed the covers from on top of me and started making my way to the bathroom, walking ape-like. My knees slightly bent as my legs struggled to hold my weight. My arms falling by my side and if they were any longer, they would've been dragged across the floor behind me.
I finally reached the bathroom and started getting ready for school. I dried my face with a towel then looked in the mirror as yesterday's events came back to me again.
I was worried sick about Luca, praying from my heart that his father didn't hurt him again, or that at least Luca was able to stand against him. I know that it was something hard to do. He was afraid of him for almost all of his childhood and all person can't simply just grow out of his fright.
Even though Luca is strong and can take down more than one person, his childhood fears were locking him in a cage, making him not believe that he, in fact, can finally help himself against his father and I was determined to show him.
I have left last night after a lot of begging from Luca. I didn't want to leave him alone with his parents but he assured me that he's going to be fine. I was practically shoved out of the door.
Sighing deeply, I slipped on a pair of deep blue jeans and a white pullover. I then wore a black sleeveless jacket on top and my converse. I grabbed my bag, took a granola bar since I wasn't feeling hungry for breakfast, waved both my parents goodbye and left the house.
When I reached school, I made my way to my locker to get my math books. It was my first class today and much to my dismay I didn't share it with Luca.
I snapped my locker shut and turned around, only to come face to face with Sarah. I glared at her as I remembered what Luca told me.
Last night, he asked me about how the hell did my parents and the police know that we were together. I told him that Sarah saw us leaving and he was worried he was taking me over my will so she called them. However, Luca's confused reply shocked me.
"That's not possible. She was there at the fair too with some guy. She saw us."
I was stunned by his words. If she was there at the fair and actually saw us then what the hell was up with all the worrying about. It was obvious that she lied to me and that she was hiding something.
"You were there weren't you?" I asked with narrowed eyes, even though I knew the answer. I wanted to hear it from her.
"Where?" She faked confusion.
"Don't act like you don't know. You were there at the fair. You saw Luca and me. Why did you call the cops and act all worried?" I snapped at her.
She smirked at me. "You really think that you can take what's mine and I would just accept it with open arms." She stated more than asked. I looked at her confused.
"What the hell are you talking about? I didn't take anything from you." I replied back. She smirked at me and shrugged.
"It doesn't matter. You already lost anyways." She stated simply, turned around and left, leaving me gaping at confusion. Da eff was that?
I spent most of my math class thinking about what Sarah said. I had no clue what she meant and after a while, I realized that dwelling on the subject won't help.
Please be okay. I prayed silently as Luca once again, crossed my mind.
The bell finally rang, signaling the end of the first period. I grabbed my math things and left the class, making my way to Chemistry.
As I walked through the hallway, I caught sight of Luca coming my way. He looked very troubled but other than that, he doesn't seem to have that much difficulty walking, meaning that he wasn't beat up again. A smile spread across my face as we came closer.
"Morning." I sang it out cheerfully. "Are you feeling okay? What class do you—" My words were caught in my throat as Luca's face, void of any expressions passed by me.
I looked at his leaving back with confusion. Why is he ignoring me?
"Luca." I called after him but he didn't turn around. My heartfelt like it has been stabbed, not because of him ignoring me, but because of what happened next.
Someone bumped into my shoulder from the back. Sarah's back was rushing towards Luca and she linked their arms together.
"Let's go baby." She told him as she glanced my way with a smirk before looking again in front of her. Luca didn't seem fazed. He didn't react to her, neither did he respond to her not did he shake her off.
W-what the hell is going on?
I was snapped out of my thoughts by the second bell. I really didn't feel like going to chemistry.
----
The bell to lunch break broke my train of thoughts about Luca and Sarah. There was definitely something going on and I was trying to connect the dots. I have to go confront Luca and understand everything from him so that I won't go crazy.
I placed my books in my locker and headed to the one place I know Luca would be in. I climbed the stairs hurriedly to the roof where I spoke to Luca for the first time. I slowly opened the door and there he was, leaning against the railing like the very first time I saw him there.
I approached him, but before I was able to reach him, he turned around to look at me. He didn't seem surprised to see me. I guess he knew that I was there.
He started walking towards me as my feet remained glued in their place. He was so close to me now, our faces were inches apart.
"I'm sorry." He whispered as he crashed his lips to mine. I was caught off guard and my eyes were as wide as they could get. His lips were warm and a bit chapped but the butterflies that started world war 3 in my stomach overcame any thoughts I had.
The kiss was soft and gentle. It didn't last long and in a couple of seconds, Luca pulled away. My eyes were still wide open as the shock from the kiss still didn't settle into me.
With no more words said, Luca walked past me and left the roof. I stood there stunned for some time then a small smile slipped onto my face as my fingers slightly touched my lips as to not lose the feeling of Luca's lips on them.
My first kiss. Luca just took my first kiss.
