Chapter 84 The Man Who Broke Her Heart Is Dead

Chapter 84 The Man Who Broke Her Heart Is Dead
Julia looked up at the man sitting on the sofa. His gaze was cold and piercing.
He was a stranger to her. Aside from seeing him in mission photos, she didn't remember him.
If not for the bounty, she and this man would likely never have crossed paths.
Yet he seemed to recognize her, even calling her “Amy.”
Her name wasn’t Amy. This man had the wrong person.
When an assassin fails a mission and falls into the hands of the target, the outcome is usually death.
If she played along, she might be able to save her life.
Julia remained silent.
Donovan looked at her for a few seconds, his gaze turning cold once more.
“Who sent you?”
“No one,” Julia replied. "For the past five years, high-ranking officials from various countries have placed bounties on your head. The cumulative amount consistently ranks first on the bounty list. A few days ago, an additional fifty million was added to the bounty. No assassin could resist such temptation."
“Fifty million... Jack Hill?” Donovan said flatly.
Julia averted her gaze, a faint glimmer flickering in her eyes.
Donovan already knew the answer and gave Harrison a slight nod.
"Tie her up and take her to the Republic of Vibia."
"Yes."
1:00 a.m., Republic of Vibia MG Company branch building.
In the seventh-floor office, Donovan sat in the center of the sofa, surrounded by five people engaged in a heated discussion about expansion plans.
Samuel pulled up the digital map and zoomed in.
"Boss, the western and southern regions of the Republic of Vibia are desert areas with harsh climatic conditions and supply shortages. It’s best to transport weapons and equipment by air.”
Jax chimed in: "This region is rich in oil, but the domestic situation is unstable with frequent fighting. Besides us, there’s a group of foreign arms dealers stationed in the desert, right in the middle of our transport route.”
Donovan smiled faintly. "They're just a nuisance and an eyesore. Samuel, draw up the operation plan. Jax will lead the team to execute it. Within seven days, wipe them out completely.”
Jax nodded. "Understood."
No sooner had he spoken than Wright burst into the office, still wearing his beach shorts.
"Donovan, you’re finally back! And six hours early—that’s so cool!”
In the corner of the office, a petite figure was curled up on a cat-paw-shaped beanbag chair—it was Iris.
She was covered by a large suit jacket, clutching a cat-shaped pillow to her chest. Only her face peeked out as she slept soundly.
The young girl’s skin was so fair and delicate that a few faint scratches stood out starkly against it.
Wright’s sudden outburst made Iris flinch. She pouted and snorted softly, but didn’t wake up.
Seeing this, Donovan frowned impatiently and threw the pen in his hand like a throwing knife at Wright’s forehead. Wright caught it effortlessly with a flick of his wrist.
He tossed the pen back to Donovan.
“Donovan, this is a public place—don’t blame me! Who would’ve thought you’d keep Iris with you at all times?”
Then Wright strode over to the wine cabinet behind Donovan’s desk, pulled out a bottle of red wine, and grabbed some glasses.
"You guys are such a drag! It's the middle of the night, and you're not out having fun, not at a party, not sleeping with women—just a bunch of grown men huddled here talking about the mission?"
Harrison promptly stood up and went out to get ice, making room for Donovan.
Wright sat down without hesitation. As he opened the bottle, he caught a faint whiff of blood on Donovan’s body.
He raised an eyebrow sharply, turned his head, and curved his lips into a smile.
“Donovan, did you kill someone again?”
Donovan gave him a casual glance. "No, I almost got killed."
Wright laughed even more excitedly. "Who was so reckless as to mess with you? If they’re still alive, can I have a turn?”
“Sure,” Donovan said, looking at Wright meaningfully. "I've been saving them just for you. They're right here in the interrogation room. Want to take a look?"
"Awesome!"
Wright hadn't even had time to sit down before he jumped up again, unable to contain his excitement.
Of the two activities, torturing people was obviously more entertaining.
He strode out the door in a few quick steps, not waiting for Donovan to warn him to brace himself.
He was completely unprepared.
The moment he saw Julia, she was strapped to the interrogation chair, her eyes fixed on him, unblinking.
Wright couldn’t control his wildly pounding heart—it nearly choked him.
He had so many questions for her and wanted to know if she had ever loved him.
He also had pent-up resentment that he wanted to unleash on this heartless woman.
He had spent seven years in a daze. During those years, he had hated her yet missed her. But in the end, what mattered most was that she wasn’t dead. She was still alive! She was back!
“Amy!”
Wright rushed forward and untied the ropes binding her without a second thought. He dropped to one knee and pulled her tightly into his arms.
Julia froze.
She recognized Wright’s face—the second-ranked target on the Most Wanted list with a $80 million bounty.
When the bare-chested man stormed in with a menacing look on his face, Julia had assumed he was going to attack her.
She had even prepared herself, intending to snap his spine the moment he let his guard down.
But, to her surprise, when this man saw her, he actually cried.
This handsome, well-dressed man with a chiseled chest and abs was crying so hard.
He had also mistaken her for "Amy," and his reaction was completely different from Donovan's.
Clearly, Wright had feelings for a woman named Amy.
It was as if heaven had sent her this opportunity!
A barely perceptible, excited smile flashed across Julia’s cold, composed features.
The combined bounty on Wright and Donovan's heads was nearly three hundred million dollars.
As long as she could gain their trust, that massive sum would be hers soon.
Julia raised her hand and gently pushed Wright away. She stared at him coldly.
The man’s eyes were brimming with tears.
He was a man of steely resolve, yet his gaze was almost shattered—anyone who saw it would feel a pang of sympathy.
Unfortunately, Julia’s first lesson as an assassin was to end the life of the one she loved with her own hands.
She wouldn’t feel sympathy.
The man who could have moved her heart was already dead.
She had loved him so deeply that the pain made her forget his name, face, and voice.
That was why every mission she’d carried out over the years had been nearly flawless. Her agile, adaptable techniques and sexy, alluring body were her best weapons.
Within the Hunter organization, she was notorious as an emotionless killing machine.
Julia reined in her coldness and lowered her gaze. "I’m sorry. I've lost my memory. I don’t remember you.”
Wright gripped Julia’s chin, forcing her to meet his gaze.
There was no trace of deception or surprise at a long-awaited reunion in her eyes; she truly didn’t remember him.
Wright paused for a moment, then ripped open the tight top covering Julia’s upper body.
Soft skin was exposed, but Wright felt no lust. He simply stared at the tattoo on Julia’s chest. Always love.
It was hers.
“It’s okay,” Wright said, his gaze softening as he lifted Julia off the ground. "We can start over. This time, I won’t let you leave me again.”
