His Smartness
Deep soothing melodious music hovers through the greenhouse, it manifests into a soft blanket enveloping us within its cocoon of warmth. It is like a soft breeze that kisses your flesh to relieve discomfort, a type of music that sends electrifying shivers down my spine, a type of music that puts my mind and soul at ease and paralyzes me in awe of the artist.
My male's eyes never leave his father's, mouth loosely open he observes the way Deimos's fingers plunge tenderly onto the keys to create a harmony. A certain melody that lulls Kal's ears one he prefers to hear. He babbles nonstop revealing his appreciation hands flailing legs kicking, he speaks and shows his contentedness to his father.
I placed Kal on the tiny space adjacent to the music rack upon the piano for this way he can meet Deimos's vibrant emeralds whilst he plays. An unbreakable bond, a powerful connection he has formed with him. Lately, whenever we acquired time to spend together as a family we do this, come to the greenhouse to hear Deimos play. Kal recognizes the place quite well for he coos with eagerness as soon as his eyes land upon the glass ceilings knowing if we entered his father shall present him a song.
My eyes descend onto Deimos who admires his male with an affectionate smile on his face. He loves it, every reaction Kal gives him. He relishes it and treasures it as if he were given a present. He often converses with our male guiding him through his growth teaching him various things just so he can hear it for the more he hears something the more he apprehends it. Kal prefers to spend time with his father more than me, he enjoys the warmth Deimos provides.
My male is fond of the vibrations that shake his flesh when Deimos plays the piano, he finds it to be of a distinct fun feeling and just for that Deimos makes sure to strike the keys hard for this way the vibrations that shall hold onto our male will be firmer. Each time Kal laughs, it brings forth laughter from us as well. His cuteness cannot be overlooked.
Cuddled into the side of the sofa legs placed together over the softness, a half-finished now cold cup of coffee in hand I watch the two males with a smile. My males. They are my world. Their importance in my life grows wildly strong, an urge that surges above any other is to protect them. Is to make sure both of them shall always possess a smile upon their faces.
"Papa." Kal babbles with a bounce of his body as he peers up at his father. My heart overflows with love whenever our male speaks. He does not know what meaning it possesses yet the first-ever word he said was papa.
Deimos stops playing and begins to clap his hands with low laughter as I join him. This adds to Kal's excitement as he screeches and smiles wide. "Good, my male."
We kept teaching him two words, mama and papa. He can tell them yet he hasn't grasped what it means rather whom he is beckoning. "He calls you more than me." I whisper sipping on my coffee whilst I send him a playful tiny glare.
"He does not know what he is saying, my female." Deimos chuckles he gives his finger for Kal to clutch onto.
"Why hasn't he said mama even once today? He has called you over ten times, my palms are red with all the clapping."
"Your mother is upset. Say, mama Kal. M-a-m-m-a." Deimos swoops down closer towards Kal as he enunciates the word for him to follow. Kal merely gazes up at his father with wide eyes yet makes no effort to comply.
"You know, he has been doing quite well compared to the other pups. He is the only one who has begun to speak and crawl. The females look at him with awe, they say his name truly fits him for he is the most beautiful pup in our pack." I mutter as I peek at our male who is now sucking on his father's thumb.
His eyes shine brighter than diamonds, lips pink and pout. His cheeks are plump like a ripe apple that Deimos always keeps nipping. Kal is smart with his ways, for he knows how to get what he wishes. He has his father wrapped around his finger, perhaps one would say he is spoilt down to the core.
But he deserves it for as he grows, life shall not be an easy path to him. He shall face several relentless trials and tribulations that he must fight through. We wish to give him a good life until he can stand on his own two feet.
"Of course, my male is the most beautiful. He was birthed by a goddess was he not?" Striking vibrant emeralds meet mine, with a light smile he regards me. His compliment brings heat to my cheeks, no matter what I am unable to handle his compliments for they always catch me off guard.
Kal pulls on the sleeve of Deimos's shirt wishing to gather back his attention, his father must never take his eyes off him. He demands to be in the centre of the spotlight when it comes to us as a family.
Deimos nudges his nose onto Kal's plump cheeks taking in his scent and delivering his. Eyes closed he relishes within the bubble of his male's warmth. There are a lot of differences concerning the relationship Deimos had with his father and what he has with Kal.
The accounts he had told me of his childhood, of the formal relationship he had with his father. I know for sure our male would grow to hold his father dear to him always. There would be a formality when it comes to his training but Deimos promised him that no matter what, they would always share a table together. Kal would always have his seat on Deimos's table.
Deimos would constantly call his father as 'father' for that was what he was taught since birth but he told me he detested it for it felt as though there was a huge gap between him and his father. One that he could not cross no matter how much he tried. When he was young he imagined there was a wall made of steel wall between them, he always had to stay on the other side.
But with Kal, Deimos is different. He wishes for him to call him papa when it is just us together and there are no eyes of the pack. He cares and loves him as a true father, he puts him first always. No matter how occupied or how drained he is, he would regularly stand by my house needing to say his wishes to Kal and me. There isn't anything that Kal does not possess, if he asked Deimos for the stars he would fetch it for him.
This brings me immense peace knowing that my males would never face each other in battles, that they would eternally cherish and truly care for the other. I want Kal to grow up with fatherly love, for I am aware of the outcomes when one is deprived of it.
"When are we leaving?" I inquire into the tranquil silence.
"Shall we leave now? We shall be able to make it back home for dinner." He mutters whilst picking Kal up from the piano to place him on his hip. Little hands clutch onto the collar of his father's shirt gripping it he takes it into his wet mouth sucking on it with eagerness. Our male fancies to put everything he sees into his mouth.
A low vibrating growl leaves Deimos's chest as he grabs his collar from Kal's trap. Our male knows it quite well that if this sound comes from his father or me it means he shouldn't be doing something.
"Will we be taking your car?" I question whilst folding the blanket and placing it neatly upon the sofa.
"No, we will be taking the pack's truck. The road downhill is quite rocky, a truck shall be able to withstand it." He replies whilst sauntering to the door grunting when Kal begins to tug on his father's hair. Deimos grips our male's tiny palm and inserts it in his mouth acting as though he were eating it delivering loud munching sounds. Our male screeches with glee sharing his wide toothless smile for all to see.
We take a slow steady path to the parked truck, with Deimos pointing out the variety of flowers growing in our pack for us. Summer births a unique variety here. Somehow this year our wolves seem to be bathing in joy and tranquillity, the pack seems more spirited and colourful than ever.
"You see that one, my female?"
"Which one?" I ask softly squinting to focus on what he is trying to show me. "The apricot coloured one?"
"Indeed. It is called 'Juliet's Rose'. It took our pack fifteen years to properly cultivate it. The healer told me It is one of the rarest flowers and my mother took the liberty to plant and grow it here." He utters emeralds lighting up with his admiration of it. It is quite amusing to think that my eyes had never laid upon it despite my deep-rooted interest in flowers. I have been here for years yet why does it seem as though I was blind to many things.
Not just Deimos's soul but to the aura of the entirety of this place. Why is it that I only see when Deimos makes way? Why is it that every piece he unfolds seems new and refreshing to me? Even the smallest of things he speaks of brings forth such immense wonderment that makes me reflect on the past.
"I did not think you were a male who was into flowers. Perhaps because of your mother?" I smile whilst I peer up at him to meet his bright cheerful eyes.
"I wasn't but I am. Because of you. Because it is something you love. I ask the healer of what flowers we possess here in our pack and of their history for that way I can indulge in conversations that shall interest you."
A quick halt to our steps, I digest his words framing them upon the walls of my mind. He never fails to astonish me, with every day together he proves it. He proves I am his life. Leaning forward standing on my tiptoes my lips meet with the smooth flesh of his cheek.
There is a slight broadening of his eyes and quick heat ambushes him the shell of his ears turn a deep red, which makes me want to kiss him more. Heartbeat picks up the pace and he inhales my essence in. Grabbing his left hand gripping it within my palm I walk beside him hand in hand in comfortable peaceful silence as true mates.
"Have you installed the seat for Kal?" I question as we near the parked truck.
"Yes. At the back." He replies whilst pulling on the tailgate and throwing in the heavy bag filled with our belongings onto the bed floor of the truck. "Keep Kal's bag with you in the front."
Walking around he opens my door for me waiting patiently until I am seated, once settled he bends in leaning forward tugging on the seatbelt locking it in for me. His scent pours through the small space within bringing forth the familiar feeling of home. I feel his emotions, his happiness of our short trip as a family together for the first time.
Shutting my door gently behind him he places a fussing uneasy Kal into the pup seat. Ignoring his tantrum as Deimos finally settles him and fastens the seat's belt a high pitched shriek leaves Kal's lips as he begins to struggle, pleading to be carried and stripped off his torture.
"He wasn't fussy all those days I drove to the cabin with him. Calm down, my male." Deimos whispers gently trying to soothe the distressed little one wiping away tears from his male's puffed-up cheeks with his trembling thumbs. Deimos detests it when Kal spills tears, he finds a way to always please him when necessary.
"That is because he was placed next to you right where I sit was he not? I think he does not like it much to sit at the back for he feels the distance between him and us. Leave him be, he must learn." I instruct a worried anxious Deimos.
"Perhaps he can stay up on your lap?" Deimos asks as Kal kicks his legs in annoyance and raises his hands leaning towards his father asking to be carried. His dislike of the situation shown eagerly to his father imploring for his rescue.
"No, he must learn. If we do what he wishes then he shall think it is easy to keep doing it." I reprimand both the males as Deimos's lips curl downward his upsetness on display.
"Sorry, my male. What your mother says goes." He whispers shutting the door striding to the driver's seat.
As the engine roars to life and Deimos begins to drive us out and away from the pack Kal's screams pick up the intensity, he refuses to succumb to what is forced upon him. His stubbornness cannot be competed with, he is outstanding at that.
Deimos's eyes linger on his male gazing at him every few seconds through the rearview mirror, perhaps he shall be the first to fall to our male's antics. He is weak when it comes to his male's cries and demands. "Deimos." A low growl of warning leaves my lips.
Rising his palms up in surrender he mutters lowly like a deer caught in headlights, "I am not thinking of doing anything, my female. It is just that his eyes-"
"Do not look into his eyes, you are the weakest and he shall trap you with ease. He will calm down by himself for he will conclude that nothing shall change."
Deimos sighs lowly gripping the steering wheel tightly he presses his foot on the accelerator wishing to get us there faster for that way he can remove his male from the pup seat and ease his discomfort.
I turn on the music increasing the volume drowning the sound of Kal's forced screams. Yes, it pains me of his uneasiness but he must learn not to take our love for granted. In several ways, his training has already begun.
"Kal." His name is called out with a lowness from me. Turning around to meet his eyes I see his forest greens overfilled with tears. He reaches towards me now, asking for my help. I offer him a shake of my head. "No."
Directing my attention back to the front his bawling merely surges. It takes time, this I know but with patience comes solutions. He will calm by himself. I just need to be strong with my ways and so does his father. Be stron-
"Mama." With a choked sob he beckons me. Deimos is swift to ram down on the brakes as the car screeches to a stop by the side of the ghostly road. With widened eyes, Deimos and I stare at each other unblinking wondering if we heard him right.
"Did he just-"
"I think he did." Deimos replies briskly with a curt excited nod peering back fondly at his male.
"Did you just call me-" Turning around once more asking the fussy male in the backseat.
"Mama." Kal sobs his miniature fisted hands rub his teary eyes. He loathes it, he wishes to be removed from the situation. He comprehends, the meaning of the word.
Eyes flutter close and a low sigh of surrender leaves my lips whilst Deimos's laughter booms through the closed space of the car. "That's my male." He cackles clapping his hands finding the entirety of the situation amusing. He is proud of his male, too proud I would say for his chest lifts puffed with overflowing pride. As we turn to glance back at our wailing male, we agree on one thing.
Kal would grow to wield one weapon as his ultimate power. His smartness.
