Lucas's POV
From the moment I abandoned Lana at alpha Dereks pack, all I wanted to do was go back and save her. Running away from a fight was not something that I liked doing or had ever done before. She was so innocent and undeserving of it.
I was sure that Lana was going to be put in terrible situations and probably be used as a tool against Elena. Lana had wanted to save her friend, but now she was going to suffer for it because of my lack of skill. Perhaps if I had been stronger or faster, I would have been able to kill more than three, or perhaps kill all of those elite guards. Maybe if I was a little more skilled, I would have been able to take Lana and escape.
I was so distraught about the whole incident that I had completely forgotten to tell Lucian about Edwina. But since I had already forgotten, there was no way I could interfere in the fight between Lucian and Alpha Derek.
I would have to wait until this blows over before I can tell Lucian anything. As soon as our men engulfed our father's park and attacked anyone inside, I pushed my way across the crowd, heading straight for the dungeon where Elena was kept. I had the feeling that if they were going to use Lana against Elena, then they would probably be in the same location.
I arrived there to realize that Lord Noah had beat me to the punch. But thankfully, he was just the person I needed to help take care of the other opponents. All I had to do was take Lana and escape.
I was nearly frozen on the spot when I saw Lana's mutilated body. She had been tortured too much, and it was clear that she didn't have any energy to scream or move anymore. She had lost so much blood she was becoming whiter and whiter by the second. Her eyes were beginning to dull and the life in them was leaving. I was terrified because I knew that Lana would probably not last an hour if this persisted.
I would never forgive myself if I allowed Lana to die just because I was too cowardly.
I quickly wrapped my hands around her and ran as fast as I could. I did not look anywhere else and simply ran as fast as my legs could carry me. In my haste, I had forgotten that Elena was there, and I would probably be berated by Lucian later on for not carrying her. But after running away with Lana, there was no way I could come back just to take Elena. I was sure that Lucian was on his way, and thankfully I came across him on my way outside.
He was nothing but a dark figure in the location. Neither of us said anything, but we acknowledged each other's presence. Shortly after I passed Lucian, I was welcomed by a multitude of angry warriors killing each other frantically. Everywhere I turned, someone was being maimed or killed. There was so much blood and murder everywhere, I could not believe my eyes.
I held Lana close to myself, not wanting anyone to hurt her. But as I pressed Lana against my body, the blood that was already flowing rapidly from her flowed even faster. I was drenched by Lana's blood which was running out. She was losing way too much blood and needed medical attention as soon as possible. Someone's blood loss would probably need serious aftercare, but I needed to worry about getting her to safety for the time being.
Right then, I swore to find the person who did this to her and do the same thing to him. I was finding it difficult to maneuver my way through the crowd, and before I knew it, I was surrounded.
"If it isn't Alpha Lucian's loyal dog," one of the rogues said.
"You've gone and made quite a name for yourself. You're so popular that even people like me know exactly who you are. What reward will our theirs give me if I brought in your head?" another rogue said with greed in his eyes.
"Unfortunately, even if you manage to take my head, your Alpha Derek will be dead soon. Alpha Lucian is going to kill him, and after that, your whole pack will crumble. If you step aside now, you can all live, but if you stall, I'll murder you all," I said, trying to be as persuasive as possible.
Lana was losing way too much blood for me to be held up by these non-entities. I would not allow Lana's life to be taken just because a bunch of nobodies got in my way.
"You have quite the mouth on you, huh? You are the one surrounded six to one, and yet you feel you can take us. How about you stay right there and die?"
One of the rogues said and attacked using both his hands.
I didn't hesitate for a second and, without any hesitation, I swiped at his face viciously, effectively taking a large amount of skin off his face. The strike dealt fatal damage to his neck, and with one move, he was dead.
The other rogues looked at each other, most surprised and angry at the death of their comrade. Fueled by their anger, they attacked me violently.
Normally, I would easily be able to kill each and every one of them in a matter of seconds. But Lana was currently with me, and she was losing too much blood for me to move around freely. I needed to stay in a fixed position so that Lana would not lose as much blood as she was currently losing. Because of that, attacks from different directions landed on me, making me bleed as well.
Eventually, the number of rogues increased. I was no longer facing six rogues but more than twenty. They surrounded me like a bunch of ants, and I stood no chance.
But then all of a sudden, bodies began to divide and separate into two pieces as blood splattered everywhere. From the distance, I saw the silhouette of arguably the most prominent young swordsman of this generation.
Marcus carefully and tactfully cut his way across the multitude of rogues surrounding us. After slashing off more than 30 rogues, he reached where Lana and I were.
"Lord Lucas, you seem to have your hands full. Perhaps I can be of assistance," Marcus said as he brandished his blade against the enemies that surrounded us.
I was taking deep breaths now, recovering from the earlier attack. Most of my clothes had been ripped apart, and blood was flowing from different directions on my upper body.
"Marcus, I need you to help me clear a path so that I can leave this place. Lana needs to be attended to as soon as possible, or else she will die," I cried out desperately to Marcus.
Marcus took a deep breath and said, "This is the reason Lord Lucian brought me here and gave me the chance I currently have. I will not disappoint him, and I will do my best to aid Lady Lana. Please bear with me and try to fend off the few enemies that will attack you from behind. I will handle the pathway ahead." Marcus said and charged ahead at the crowd in front.
Body parts and blood flew all over the place as Marcus brandished his sword like a master. No one who came close to him survived because he decapitated any adversary. He was so skilled with it that he used it in such a manner it seemed as though he was cutting butter with a warm knife.
The sight was truly fascinating because up till this point, I was yet to believe that Marcus was actually this skilled. But seeing that in the face of so many enemies, he was able to compose himself and strike so vitally.
A few other werewolves attacked from the side, but using one hand to hold Lana and the other to fend them off, Marcus and I began to make progress.
But then suddenly Marcus began to get injured. It was true that he was lethal with the sword and whatever enemy he clashed with would definitely die, but there were too many for him alone to handle. Every single one of Lucian's subordinates was currently busy. It was a total bloodbath, and the Rogues had the numbers.
Lucian's men were outnumbered seven to one, and it was a truly gruesome sight. The only advantage they had was that Lucian had more commanders and ranked officers who were very strong. Thanks to this, they were able to keep up. And with so many of them attacking relentlessly, blood was beginning to flow everywhere.
Eventually, when Marcus had cut down what seemed to be hundreds of werewolves, his hands fell down weakly.
We were outnumbered more than 100 to 2. We stood no chance, and we were gravely wounded.
"Well, well, well. It seems that even with all your talent, you still couldn't make it out. That girl there is going to die, and the two of you are going to die as well. Such a shame to waste talent such as yours, but unfortunately, this is your destiny and you have to accept it," one of Alpha Derek's commanders said and began to approach slowly.
He wielded a sword in his hand, and the closer he came, the more his aura grew. Eventually, when he came close enough to strike, Marcus's hands were too weak to raise his sword, and as the sword began to fall on Marcus's head inevitably, all of a sudden, a spear passed through Derek's commander's head, and he dropped down dead.
The spear was thrown and spun around wildly by one of Lucian's commanders, called Commander Leno.
As soon as I saw him, my eyes immediately lit up in joy. "Commander Leno, I didn't expect to see you here."
"Take Lana and run as fast as you can. I will hold them up as much as I can. Marcus here will be your guide. He is weakened but can still show you a little bit more. I will hold them off and make sure you run as fast as your legs can carry you. No matter what, don't let Lana die," Commander Leno said and charged bravely into the crowd.
As soon as I saw the opportunity, I did not waste time to run in the free direction. Marcus cleared the path, and running out was particularly easy. A safe distance away, when I turned back, I saw that Commander Leno was being overwhelmed. He had managed to murder more than 50 of the rogues right there and then, but more and more swords were stuck in his body, and eventually, he fell down defeated.
