Chapter 171: Knight in wolf’s coat.

Chapter 171: Knight in wolf’s coat.
Ruelle’s POV

Morra’s bloodcurdling scream pierces through the air, sending my hands flying to my chest.

The big brown wolf in front of us wasn’t bothered in the slightest by the sound of her scream, as it slowly made its way towards us. We took three steps back for every one step it took forward, and we were slowly entering into the woods again.

Baring its teeth, the massive creature locks his gaze down on mine as he makes his way towards us. As though I am his target.
A sense of familiarity starts to settle on his features and I squint my eyes, trying to pull my memories.

I have seen this wolf before

“My lady…” Morra gulps, her fingers tightly holding unto my arm. I pull it up so I could entwine my fingers with hers, as we keep moving back. Soon there would be no more room for us to back away and all that will be left would be to just run. And I have a few ideas on how that could go, they both end with Morra and I lifeless. “I’m deeply sorry that we ended up in this situation. It is all my fault.”

I shake my head at Morra, wondering how she still has it in her to speak. Much more in the hearing of the wolf who is currently about to tear us apart. “Don’t apologize. We couldn’t have been too careful.”

The wolf is closer now, baring its teeth and the more I look at it, the more the recognition deepens, until finally, it clicks. I knew I had seen this wolf somewhere before. Those piercing neon eyes that had stared back at me from within the woods that day in the cabin.

A gasp falls from my lips as I the realization dawns upon me. That is impossible, he was supposed to he dead. Carlos said he found and killed him. Unless… they had killed the wrong person. It would absolutely destroy me to learn that they did.

Now that I look closely, I study the eyes of the wolf who is now only inches away from us. It is strange. Typical rogue behavior would be to kill me immediately on sight. But for some reasons, this wolf is yet to attack. It just stares and growls, then bares its teeth and growls some more.

I stop taking steps back and stand in a spot, earning a confused and worried gasp from Morra by my side. I ignore her, staring square into the wolf’s eyes.

“Who are you?” My voice sounds firmer than I expected with how much I am shaking, but I don’t miss the slight shock that flashes through the wolf’s eyes at the sound of my voice. “You clearly came here to find something. You were watching us that day too. What do you want?”

The wolf growls, making low rumbling sounds from deep in his chest and walking even closer to me. I make sure to stand my ground.

“Is it one of the Alpha’s in the Council that sent you?” A flash of an emotion I can only describe as understanding passes through his eyes. I take a deep breath before adding, “Is it my father?”

Just then, heavy footsteps emerge from the woods and before anyone of us has the time to look, a much larger wolf comes barreling over, tackling the wolf in front of me to the floor instantly and hovering over him.

I step back instinctively, my hands coming up over my face. Morra screams, stumbling back as well. The barreling wolf finally stands, turning his body to look at me and the breath is immediately snuffed from my lungs,

“Thorne…”
