154 Punished

Had Jessie come to terms with the fact that it was a result of her troubled background, maybe her heart would not have hurt so deeply. Tears filled her eyes as she gazed at Caiden, wishing it was all a nightmare. She had never anticipated being in this kind of moment. Jessie was being rejected by the alpha man she loved.

She slid to his feet and gripped him, pleading with him, "Caiden, please don't do this. I can redeem myself, but I beg you not to leave me."

Jessie was humiliated, and Alpha Caiden loudly and forcefully reacted, making her let go and ignoring her cries for forgiveness. She held his kid within her, yet there was no way he could forgive her.

"You will face the most severe punishment imaginable for what you have done." His words, "and I wish never to see or hear from you again," caused Jessie's eyes to widen in terror. They also left her thoughts troubled.

She was still in disbelief after hearing his words, which kept repeating in her head and did not let her sleep: "I carry your child in my womb, the heir of this pack."

His expression darkened and hollow, he spoke harshly once more, "You won't have any rights over him either, Jessie. I will take everything of value from you, and you will be left with nothing but a miserable life."

At that moment, Jessie was positive Caiden had never loved her. There was no mercy, no regard, and no consideration. After living with the woman for seven long years, Caiden was unforgiving.

Then Jessie, her legs shaking, attempted to stand. She cleared her throat after finishing and tried again.

She said, truly, "I love you, Caiden," but he didn't appear to believe her. "I made mistakes, but they were motivated by love and devotion for you."

He cast a contemptuous glance at her and said, "Remember that I rejected you and that you are no longer my mate. As such, I no longer need your love."

"Please, Caiden.." However, he moved away from her degrading actions and went to the door to talk to the hunter.

Caiden commanded, "Call the others immediately and get Jessie out of here."

Matt stood on the other side of the room, taking in the sight and being fascinated by their interaction. Everyone looked up to Caiden as a strong leader who was both cold and merciless, and they all dutifully followed his orders. It was unlike anything Matt had ever seen in his entire life.

He went up to Caiden and pleaded to be let go. He was not allowed to speak about the subject since it was too personal.

"Avoid going too far," he warned. "We haven't finished yet."J

Jessie realized that things would only become worse after Matt left the room and she was left alone with him.

"What will you do with me, exactly?" She could tell by the way he looked at her that Caiden might even feel sorry for her and change his mind. "I will entrust you to human hands," Jessie was rendered immobile at hearing this. Her heart nearly stopped, and her mouth became dry. "You will be imprisoned and judged by their laws, far from your ancestors and your pack."

Jessie wasn't prepared for that. It felt like someone had stabbed her in the heart—not deeply enough to kill her, but deep enough to cause her to suffer for the rest of her life.

When Jessie attempted to argue and beg with the Alpha, the hunters broke in and caught her.

"Let everyone know and detest her for the criminal she is, so she is never accepted here or in any other pack," Jessie yelled out in anguish, "take her through the city, bind her hands, and let the whole pack see the Luna they had."

Jessie let her body to be carried out of the building because she was out of strength to protest. She noticed the human staring at her, and it appeared as though he was sympathetic to her. Caiden came right behind. Seeing someone he had sworn allegiance to betray him in the most heinous way destroyed his heart.

"How are you going to handle her?" Matt was aware that he was there.

"I will give her to you to judge according to your laws." He avoided meeting Matt's gaze, not wanting to see the look of surprise on his face. "Kamara won't be held accountable for the woman who died at the house the night of the kidnapping because of Jessie's conviction. Matt, tell me you'll do it."

"She will pay for the crime she committed, I swear to you."

That seemed to satisfy Caiden, but his heart was still broken. A bond had been severed.

The hunters declared that the Luna would be banished from the pack for the crime of kidnapping the Alpha's quads as they dragged Jessie through the streets. Enzo, hidden behind a building, witnessed the whole incident with a crushed heart from a distance. He watched Jessie be humiliated in front of everyone, and his face was twisted with hate, yet he did nothing to save her.

When she turned away without turning around and denied him as a brother, she had also sealed her own doom. Their destiny was predetermined by Jessie's actions. Enzo made the decision to go quickly in order to finish his job against Kamara.

With a final glance at Jessie, he left in pursuit of his retribution, knowing he would never see her again.

Jessie was thrown into a cell in the police station of the small town by the guards. As soon as Bruno learnt of the charges, he had guards stationed to keep a close eye on Jessie's cell. Yet she didn't appear to respond. She lay on the filthy, chilly cell floor in the same manner that she had been flung, her eyes wide, as though the only reason she was still alive was because she was dead within this body.

In order for Enzo to pay for his crimes, Caiden gave the guards orders to track him down.

"I believe my work here is done." Matt sighed deeply and for a long time. "I sincerely apologize for breaking terrible news to a couple and causing their separation."

"You're not to blame." Caiden said. Despite his apparent lack of pain, his face was gaunt. "Please don't leave right now and come with me on a trip."

Matt asked, "And where would we go?"

"To see Nate," he said, causing Matt's eyes to brighten. "You must be ready for what I am about to reveal to you."
