Chapter 128 The Architect's Wrath
Chapter 128 The Architect's Wrath
The Violet Meteor
The twin-bladed scythe descended.
I kept my eyes open because I would not let myself see the final moment of a cosmic parasite's presence. My body let me keep staring at High General's dark-matter visor while my muscles turned into total weakness and I could not raise my Star-Metal knife to defend against the execution.
The blade was inches from my throat when the atmosphere violently screamed.
The sound did not resemble a roar because it produced a planetary heartbeat sound which created a concussive effect.
THUMP.
The High General’s scythe froze in mid-air.
The nine-foot alien warrior didn't stop voluntarily. The sickly grey slipspace field surrounding his armor violently flickered, overwhelmed by a sudden, impossible kinetic weight. The General’s knees buckled, driving him inches into the compacted ash.
One shadow moved across the battlefield area with greater speed than the heavy artillery projectiles of the Syndicate.
Kade didn't just land; he cratered.
He brought down the earth ten feet away with the power of a tactical nuclear explosion. The shockwave of displaced ash and shattered bedrock blew a dozen Aethelgard warriors entirely off their feet, snapping their halberds like dry twigs.
The dust settled while Kade created an air disturbance that turned into extreme heat from the World Engine's output. The Star-Metal plate on his chest now emitted a light which extended beyond its original white-gold color. The light became intertwined with furious, blinding violet, which represented the unprocessed Source magic of our son.
Kade stood up. He wasn't panting. He wasn't weak. His eyes contained a storm of cosmic gold and predatory blue which operated as a terrifying phenomenon.
Kade's voice boomed, "You touched my Luna." The synthetic machine sound did not belong to a machine; it belonged to an Alpha Prime who produced a world-ending sound because his family had been threatened.
The Broken Physics
The High General used all his strength to stand up while his dark-matter armor emitted groaning sounds against the local gravitational force which Kade had placed on him. The alien commander stayed calm under pressure because he changed his suit's settings to match the situation.
The General telepathically projected to me, "Your localized physics are obsolete, host," while his regal voice returned to my mind. "Slipspace fields cannot be crushed by planetary gravity."
Kade raised his right Star-Metal gauntlet to declare, "I am not using the planet anymore." The violet Source magic flared brilliantly across the liquid veins on his neck. "I am using the Source."
Kade made his fist into a tight ball.
He didn't target the General yet. He targeted the fifty elite Aethelgard warriors who were rushing toward us.
The violet-laced gravity created a bounce effect when it hit their slipspace shields. Kade's power came from the unrefined magic of creation, which allowed his gravity to effectively replace their entire cosmic technology.
The fifty warriors froze mid-stride.
Kade violently compressed the localized gravity around them with a sickening metallic crunch that produced sound effects throughout the ash-wastes. The magic-consuming dark-matter armor which had invincible power did not succeed in protecting him. The alien warriors became instantly crushed into heavy blocks of scrap metal and dark matter which fell to the ground like stones.
He used his powers to eliminate an entire platoon in just one second.
The High General stared at his destroyed guard while genuine fear appeared on his face through his telepathic projection.
Kade ordered, "Get up, Elara," while he kept watching the General with his glowing eyes.
The moment Kade’s supercharged aura washed over me, the General’s armor completely drained my energy. The heavy, leaden feeling in my muscles vanished.
I took a deep breath, pushing myself to my feet. My ribs ached furiously, but the infinite vacuum of the cosmos answered my call once again. The liquid silver starlight inside my veins became brighter and hotter than any previous time because it wanted to equal the violet-gold fire of my mate.
I growled, "Let's break his scythe," while rolling my shoulders. The silver lightning erupted from my fingertips.
The Dual Godhood
The High General chose not to wait for his crushing death. He swung his twin-bladed scythe, aiming to tear the spatial fabric between Kade and me to separate us.
I yelled, "Hold him!"
Kade thrust both hands forward while he activated a gravity well which pulled everything towards the General's weapon. The massive scythe, which had moved with weightless grace moments before, suddenly weighed a million tons. The jagged blades slammed into the earth, burying themselves deep into the bedrock, permanently pinning the weapon.
The General tried to pull his scythe free by emitting a terrifying metallic roar.
I whispered "My turn."
I became a shining beam of silver starlight. I didn't teleport directly at him this time; I knew his armor could still siphon physical stamina if I lingered in close combat.
I teleported to the sky and appeared above the General at a height of one hundred feet.
I let gravity take me, but I didn't just fall. I activated all my astral magic powers to create a concentrated meteor of starlight that transformed my whole body into a meteor form.
Kade saw me falling. He instantly manipulated the gravity field around the General, shifting the pressure from crushing him downward to locking him rigidly in place, arms pinned to his sides.
The General projected "Anomaly" while he looked upward as his dark-matter armor struggled against Kade's violet-laced grip.
I struck him with the force of a thunderbolt.
I used my feet to strike the shining grey runes on his breastplate, delivering my complete silver lightning attack at close range.
The impact created a sound that reached deafening levels. His power core became overloaded with cosmic photons, which resulted in the complete destruction of the slipspace field. The silver light explosion moved across the ash-wastes, making distant fighting groups close their eyes to protect themselves from its brightness.
The High General’s dark-matter armor broke apart into countless pieces that flew outward from its center like glass.
I bounced off his chest and landed on my feet next to Kade, my feral gold eyes shining as the silver starlight vanished from my skin.
The High General fell to the ground without his armor. He appeared as a terrifying figure—a tall, light-skinned being without facial features who showed his alien body to the polluted ash-filled atmosphere of Earth. His lungs rejected our atmosphere while he gasped for air through his mouth, which had no jaw.
Kade advanced with slow steps toward the dying cosmic predator while his Star-Metal boots produced heavy sounds on the ground.
He looked down at the General while his chest released violet and gold light, which created frightening shadows that spread over the area.
Kade proclaimed "You came to consume our world" with his voice demonstrating complete authority over the situation. "But you forgot one detail. This world bites back.
Kade raised his heavy Star-Metal boot and brought it down, crushing the High General's pale skull into the ash.
The Groaning Dreadnought
The alien commander died, which caused the unified packs to break out into loud cheering. The surviving Aethelgard foot soldiers lost their formation because the General's slipspace fields were not available to control them against the overwhelming power of the Ferals, Earth Mutants, and Null-Wolves.
I leaned against Kade, wrapping my arms tightly around his waist, burying my face in his chest. The World Engine produced a continuous mechanical thump sound that I considered the most beautiful sound in existence.
I said "You're okay" through tears that mixed with the ash on my cheeks. "Leo did it.
Kade confirmed "He did" while he embraced me and rested his chin on my head. "He’s our little lifesaver. You held the line perfectly, Luna.
The battle was still continuing at that point.
The wasteland echoed with a loud and frightening sound of metal that twisted into an unusual shape.
Kade and I turned our heads.
The mountain-sized Aethelgard dreadnought that had crashed a mile away still had operational capabilities. Dark plasma was violently emerging from its massive grey exhaust vents through the jagged openings of its hull.
Thorne yelled "Alpha!" while he sprinted towards us through the fallen alien warriors. His combat blade had sustained damage, which rendered it useless, while his suit showed signs of alien blood. "The foot soldiers are routing, but Cipher just radioed from the bunker!
Kade asked "What problem exists with the ship?" as he extended his tectonic sensors to investigate the enormous shipwreck.
Thorne panted "The dreadnought isn't trying to take off." He pointed at the glowing grey vents. "The main reactor is undergoing critical meltdown because oceanic feedback loop has activated the reactor system. They are not making any effort to control the situation. Cipher reports that they have gained access to the protected areas of the system.
I stared at the colossal ship, the blood draining from my face. "They're turning the ship into a bomb."
Kade confirmed "A dark-matter bomb the size of a mountain" while he realized the horrifying truth. "If that reactor detonates, the slipspace explosion won't just vaporize Aurora Citadel.
It will consume the entire North American continent.
