Chapter twenty-eight
Tessa’s POV
The castle was huge.
There was chatter and noise everywhere and I flinched a few times when a roar of a dragon would screech in the air.
The cold floors were covered with Persian carpets and I swore I saw bloodstains.
“Or maybe you’re just being irrational and imagining things,” my wolf said and stretched from her nap.
“Maybe I should take you for a run later, stretch those paws. You haven’t been out for a while,” I told her.
“Clearly you are neglecting your duties as a werewolf.”
I was taken aback.
“When did you become so bitchy?” I snapped and she didn’t reply and just huffed.
Pushing my wolf away, I noticed the way the woman dressed here. When Lucian had said boisterous, I didn’t think it was this bad.
They were like man magnets, wearing lace underwear under thin material dresses that you could see what was all to be offered.
Others had the decency to wear shorts that were so short, half their butt was sticking out and little shirts that showed way too much cleavage.
Walking past all the bustling in the castle, most of the woman gave me looks that could kill and snorted at my choice of clothing.
Others didn’t care enough to even bother and shuffled about on to their next duties.
“They are all getting ready for the blue moon ceremony in three days' time,” Lucian whispered, and we entered what I think was a throne room.
I saw something flash in his eyes as we neared the thrones on the other side of the big room. His dragon eyes flashed before returning to their normal brown and then clouding over.
He was scared.
I squeezed his hands tight with reassurance and he looked at me, kissing my head softly and giving me a small smile.
Maxwell was sitting on his throne being pampered by lingerie-clad women who giggled.
“Lucian! Tessa! Welcome.” He said and the women snorted at me.
“I thought I smelt dog.” The blonde said and Maxwell looked at her.
“Now now Samantha, be nice.” He said and pulled Samantha onto his lap.
“Please sit,” Maxwell said and motioned us to the chair next to the throne.
“This Kingdom is run on sex, drugs, and blood,” Lucian said into my ear and I glanced at the two becoming very touchy on the throne.
“I would never have guessed,” I said dramatically and placed a hand on his thigh. He tensed and a growl vibrated throughout his chest as his eyes grew dark.
His arm snaked around my waist and pulled me against him, his hot breath washed over my face.
“I guess the kingdom does do something to the average wolf,” Maxwell said with a smirk and Lucian’s grip on my waist loosened and I cleared my throat.
“Why don’t you two get… settled in and we’ll give young Tessa a tour of our Kingdom later before dinner,” he said, and Samantha came from behind him and tugged on his tie.
“Duty calls.” He said and walked away.
He looked at me and before I could say anything, Maxwell called.
“Oh, and Lucian, you and Tessa’s will be sleeping in your old room. You know where it is, you don’t need someone to accommodate you there.”
If looks could kill, the man would have been dead by the way Lucian looked at his back.
“Let’s go, Lucian.” I tugged on his sleeve. He was frozen like a statue, staring at the floor and I grabbed his face in my hands as his fists balled.
“Get a grip, Lucian. Damn it, if you are not going to do it for yourself then do it for me. Please.” I begged him.
He looked up at me and I dropped my hands from his face.
“The memories of this place are not nice, Tessa,” he said in a low voice.
“The ways here are different.”
“The hell they are.” I snapped in a sharp whisper and looked around to see if anyone was paying attention, and to my luck, no one gave a rat's ass.
He looked like a lost boy. Someone who knew the difference between father, and Alpha because Alpha always won.
In this case, his father was Alpha.
“What do you mean?” he asked, and he straightened.
“Everyone has their own rules and regulations to follow, Lucian. The rules might be a tad different, but they are still rules. The wolves and dragons are two opposite species but they all. Follow. Rules. Lucian,” I said and poked his muscled chest with a scary look in my eyes.
“I don’t know what has gotten into you since we arrived but it’s time you get your head out of the hole you came from and be the Alpha. Be the better man than Maxwell.” And with that, I gave him one last look before marching off.
“Where are you going?” He called and I realized that I had no idea where to go.
“I have no idea,” I yelled over my shoulder before starting towards the grand staircase.
In no time Lucian sprinted behind me and lifted me, giving me a twirl and I giggled out loud.
“Did my grandmother give you that? Because that is so last year,” a voice said.
Lucian placed me on the floor, and I turned to see a light brunette with a high ponytail.
Her hair reached her hips, and I could smell heavy vanilla perfume radiating off from her, making my nose twitch.
“Lisa,” Lucian bit out and the girl who I assumed was Lisa walked up towards us, her hips swaying in the little black skirt she wore.
She licked her blood-red painted lips and placed a well-manicured hand on his arm.
“Excuse me,” I said, grabbing her hand and twisting it away from Lucian, and throwing it down.
“I see you’ve found yourself a pet. Quite the sloppy looking one too. I didn’t think you’d go so low, Lucian.”
“Tessa is my mate,” he said through clenched teeth and watched as she walked around him, studying as if he was some science experiment.
“Boo-hoo. Who needs a mate when you’ve got all the men in the kingdom locked under your pinkie,” she said and slightly pushed out her breasts further out.
“You should be the last one to talk about mates, Lisa. I don’t even see a stone on your finger.” Lucian said with such bitterness, but it didn’t stop her.
“Don’t forget how good we were together. All those messing around in the sheets was fun.” She said smirking in my direction.
“But I guess you’ve moved on. You’re a family man I see.”
I felt the color drain from my face and looked between the model figure and Lucian.
“Oh, don’t look so down, pet. It was just a bit of fun. Maybe we should all have a threesome some time.” She winked and Lucian grabbed her by the neck and shoved her up the nearest wall.
“Never speak to her like that again.” He growled and I saw his wolf slowly fighting to the surface.
“Too bad you’re so weak, Lucian. I would have loved to go another round or two with you,” she choked and smiled although her face was slowly turning blue and purple.
“You’re going to kill her Lucian. We don’t need that,” I said, and he looked at me.
He heard my Luna tone and dropped the tramp on the floor without a second look. She coughed and gave a wheeze.
“Let’s go, Tessa,” he said.
“Nice meeting you, sweetcakes,” she said and gave me a wink.
