Chapter twenty-one
Lucian’s POV
I glanced to the side, watching Tessa as she scrolled through her phone like a bored teenager. She sighed and plugged her phone into the car’s system and scrolled through her music.
The music started playing and I watched as she began to sing.
“You make it look like it’s magic. But I see nobody, nobody but you, you, you. I’m never confused. Hey, I’m so used to being used…” I listen as she continued the verse and finally hit the chorus with a dramatic effect.
“’Cause girl you perfect. You always worth it. And you deserve it, the way you work it. ‘Cause you’re wor-r-r-th it.” She sang the rest of the song finished and I’d looked away from her for a minute and I heard the soft snores coming from the girl buried deep in my hoodie.
I chuckled and flipped my wrist, checking the time. It was nearly sunset now and I’d calculated us, by the speed we were going, to reach Mcgraw lands in the next eighteen hours.
I groaned softly so it was inaudible. All I wanted to do right now is take my beautiful mate and hold her. And kiss her. And make mindless love to her all night.
My body was still coping with the driving for now and should be able to carry on till we reach the pack lands of Tessa’s former home. I sighed.
Going back to the pack she was in is going to be hard for her, especially since she hasn’t been there in over three weeks. She’ll be deeply hurt but after we’d mated, she’ll find comfort in me.
I then remembered the sassy little she-wolf that was there when I was taking Tessa home. She’d be there too. So, I’d have to keep Tessa close all the time.
My grip on the steering wheel tightened, making my knuckles go white and I pushed I had all the anger towards the immature she-wolf down into a very dark place in my soul.
“Calm down. You going to scare mate,” my wolf said, and I nearly choked. Out of all the times he could have come to speak to me, he came in this very moment?
He was so unbelievable.
My wolf scratched his ears and stretched after coming out from the two-day hibernation before the mating moon or as humans referred it to, the red moon.
My wold suddenly stood on all fours, his ears perked up, as he scanned the surroundings.
“Stop. Something don’t feel right,” he said in a low growl and I slowed the car down, slowing down the buses behind me.
My wolf was a lot of things, but when he said something wasn’t right, I was forced to listen. His dragon-merged personality helped when it came to sensing danger.
I unbuckled my seat belt and Tessa stirred.
“What’s going on, Lucian?” she said in a sleepy voice and sat up straight.
“Nothing, Tessa. Just stay in this car and keep the doors locked,” I ordered, and she nodded.
I sprinted into the distance where I saw my frontline men standing in all their naked glory.
“What’s happening?” I barked and pushed through the men. There in front of us was a little girl. By the claw marks on her face and body, I knew they were dragon markings.
Her blood smelt human and I squatted down to get a better look. I shifted the hair away from her neck to find a very familiar marking.
This little human girl, no older than eight, belonged to the dragon king. The dragon marking was very important in the dragon kingdoms because it symbolizes which person belongs to which clan of dragons.
Her dirty blonde hair was sprawled around her and I caught something in the distance. A small stuffed kitten.
Her pink dress was ripped and revealed the white stocking underneath. Her sparkly white pumps shone in the setting sun.
“FUCK!” I yelled and stood up massaging the bridge of my nose and realized that the girl’s family clearly worked for Maxwell.
I picked up the kitten toy and took one more glance at the girl on the tar. The dragon who’d done this to her wasn’t feeding, otherwise, there wouldn’t be anything left of the poor girl. It wasn’t supposed to be feeding time, he knew for a fact that his father had used this young girl to threaten him.
“Two of you bury her in a pit and burn her. No evidence should be left behind. The rest of you, let’s move out.” I said and made my way to the car.
Tomorrow would be the mating moon, so things were bound to get messy at the Mcgraw pack lands. In two days from now was the blue moon ceremony that my father had insisted I go to.
His message was very clear. If I didn’t go to the blue moon ceremony, he’d slaughter every single child in my pack. With no mercy.
I pulled the handle on the car and felt myself twitch when it refused to open. Tessa looked at me and put her hand out, telling me to wait as she leaned over, unlocking the door.
She pulled the handle and opened the door for me. I got in and slammed the car door with such a force that Tessa moved away from me.
“What happened?” she asked, looking at me then at the blazing flames in the distance. I put the car into gear and gave her the little toy.
“Looks like Maxwell wants to play games with me.” I said and she studied the little kitten before I pushed my foot onto the gas, speeding past the fire
