CHAPTER 55
AVA’S POV.
“Maybe he was pressured into doing it” Jane replied.
“Pressured?” I retorted with my eyes widened.
“Pressured to take my children away from me? How is that even possible?”
“The pack, I heard they have all been on his neck, including the elders, asking that he give them an heir, and then you came along with his children, do you think he would just sit back down and do nothing to bring them back to the pack?”
“But I told him I needed time, I told him he can't just come back into my life not after how he hurt me.” I sobbed harder.
“And that time is what he doesn't have, he might have wanted to wait until you were ready, but you know the elders, they can never just take no for an answer, especially in a crucial situation like this.” she squeezed my hand softly.
“I think they were the ones that sold this idea to him,” Jane added.
“How on earth did the Elders know about my children? I have never been to the pack house since my return.” I said frustrated.
“That isn’t something to be surprised about, maybe Alpha Mark told them about it, maybe to calm their worried mind that he now has an heir,” Jane replied.
Throwing my back tiredly on the chair, “I can't believe I trusted him to protect us, I can't believe I let him back into my life.” I lamented, wailing heavily.
“This is not in any way your fault, you did this for the kids, and you can't blame yourself for wanting the best for them,” Jane caressed me further with her words, but my soul was unyielding.
I felt a hollow ache in my chest, the pain of the betrayal of the letter I had just received cutting me deeper than one could ever imagine.
Mark’s action instantly shattered my fragile hope I had started to build a better future together for us and the kids.
I can stand losing everything in this life, my career, my job, everything, but I can't stand the fact of losing Kenny and Kendall.
The thought of it alone was an unbearable one, and the accusation he levied against me as being weak was a huge slap on my face.
Who would have ever thought that the man who frequently visited me, took me out on dates, and acted like he couldn't breathe if he wasn't around me would go behind my back and label me as a weak mother?
Who would have thought that the one who had endlessly sung praises about me being so strong to carry the burden of two children at the same time all by myself despite all that I was going through would go behind me to take the smile away from my face by accusing me wrongly?
“What exactly did I do to deserve all this?” I questioned no one in particular, staring blankly ahead of me.
“Why can't I just be happy for once in my life?”
Jane leaned closer to me and wrapped her hands around my neck, her hug offering me some sort of comfort amid the chaos that had wrapped around me.
“I want you to know that you are a wonderful mother, ma'am, you have done your utmost best in raising two children who are growing in so much wisdom and strength as the day goes by,” Jane whispered to me
“You shouldn't allow anyone to make you doubt that for a minute. This is a fight you have to put up with just like the others, and just like the others, you are going to find your way out of it.”
“You don't understand Jane,” I replied, shaking my head slowly to the sides.
“This is a completely different battle that I don't have the strength to fight against because my source of strength has been tampered with.”
“No, don't say that, I understand everything perfectly, and I know how hard it is, but you just have to be strong, ma'am,” Jane replied.
“For crying out loud Jane, we are talking about my little angels here, my joy giver, my breath, my strength, my light, my everything…” I choked on my tears which only kept getting intense with every passing moment.
“They are my life, if they are taken away from me, it automatically means my life has ended, what else is left to fight for?”
“No, don't say that, ma'am don't say that.”
“You don't understand Jane, you don't understand the reason I was able to overcome all these other battles life threw at me. I kept on showing up even when I lost it all because of them, Kendall and Kenny were the reason why I kept fighting through it all, and now they are about to be taken away from me.” I jerked uncontrollably, earnestly wishing that this was a nightmare that I could wake up from, or a solid joke.
“You have come too far to just give up, you have to keep fighting to get what you want.”
I wanted to cling tightly to her words, I wanted to believe in them to draw a little strength from them, but my soul wouldn't just let me, it kept on feeding me with the illusion that it was all over.
Even if it seems like that, I wanted even if it is the tiniest part of me to tell me that it isn’t, but I got none.
The doorbell rang as I was trapped in my world of thoughts.
I felt Jane slip away from me to go get the door and I wanted to pull her back and hug her tighter, at this point I felt she was the only person I had left in my life and I would rather not let her go.
“Ma’am, Alpha Mark is here,” Jane said, spying from the peephole.
How could he have the guts to still show up here after what he had just done?
I felt like rushing up to him and ripping him apart into several pieces if I could.
I want to cause him pain, I want him to feel the hell he has made me pass through every time he gets into my life.
“Tell him to go away, I don't want to see him.” I managed to say.
“Are you sure about that? Don't you think you need to confront him about it and how you are feeling about everything?” Jane questioned further, and I turned to give her a dead stare, without asking any more questions, she stepped out of the house and came back minutes later with a bouquet of rose flowers.
“He left, he asked me to give you this.” She said, stretching out the bouquet to me, but I just stared at them without taking them from her.
