13 - Zahir

A rich, deep sound that echoed through the library, shattering the tension. My cheeks burned with embarrassment! I feel like I could melt into a puddle on the floor! Ugh.

"W-what's so funny?"

"Nothing," he tried to calm down. "So, about that adventure? Ready to see the great outdoors?" He extended his hand to help me up.

I nodded, taking his hand hesitantly. A jolt of electricity shot through me as our skin touched, sending a blush creeping up my neck. He squeezed my hand gently, and honestly... his grip was surprisingly strong!

"You're stuck with me now, babe."

My face turned even redder. Babe? Seriously? I glared at him, but a small smile tugged at the corner of my own lips. The truth was, the idea of exploring a whole new world, even with a grumpy-turned-playful Alpha by my side, didn't sound so bad after all.

Maybe, just maybe, this unexpected adventure could turn out to be a little less about finding a way home and a little more about what I found along the way, right?

AS WE RODE through the pack territory in a carriage, I couldn't help but stare out the window in wide-eyed wonder.  Woah. This place was like stepping into a storybook!  Everything was so different from back home!

Here, houses were sprinkled along the road, each with a neat farm beside it. It looked like everyone pitched in to keep the pack running.

"Wow," I breathed, leaning out the window as we entered the central town.

This wasn't just some random village – it was a whole town! Buildings with spires and chimneys lined the streets, reminding me of pictures I'd seen of old London. Even cooler, in the heart of it all, there was a giant, sparkling lake surrounded by people.

"We've reached Ravencrest's town center!" the coachman announced, pulling the carriage to a stop.

"This is amazing!" I couldn't help but feel amazed!

Back home, we had towering skyscrapers and crowded streets.  But this... this was the complete opposite, and somehow, even more enchanting!

Gideon helped me down from the carriage, and I couldn't wait to explore further.  "So, this is the heart of Ravencrest, huh?"

"Yeah. According to the pack records, it was my great-grandfather's vision. He believed the central fountain would be a symbol of prosperity and unity for the pack."

"Now I kinda like your grandpa for that!"  I chuckled but he started walking towards a grand building, and I followed curiously.  "Where are we going?" I asked, peering up at the imposing structure.

"Ah, right," Gideon stopped, a sheepish look crossing his face.  "I completely forgot to mention – I have a meeting with the Alphas of some nearby packs today.  There's a diner inside this building, though.  Apparently, they serve the best food in Ravencrest.  You can wait there while I—"

"Wait! Can't I explore instead?" I interrupted, my voice pleading. “This whole place looked incredible, and the idea of being stuck inside a restaurant felt like torture!"

Gideon's frown deepened.  I crossed my fingers, hoping he'd agree.

"Look," he began, his voice stern. "You're new here, Adeline.  I wouldn't want you to get lost or run into any trouble."

I crossed my arms, puffing out my cheeks in a mock offense. "Hey, I may be new, Alpha, but I'm not stupid! I don't know the layout or the people here, but I wouldn't dream of putting myself in danger?  Besides, wouldn't it be worse if I tried to escape from the pack house?  Here, I'm right in the middle of everything."

A flicker of amusement crossed Gideon's face.  "Alright, alright," he conceded.  "There are usually trackers and Deltas patrolling the square.  If anything feels wrong, just yell for help, okay?"

"Absolutely!" I chirped, raising my hand in a scout's salute.  "I promise, I'll be careful."  Maybe a little too careful with the promise, but hey, it worked!

Gideon ruffled my hair playfully, a smile tugging at his lips.  "Good.  Just… try not to cause too much chaos, alright?"

"Yes sir!" I saluted again, a wide grin plastered on my face.  This Ravencrest place was amazing, and I couldn't wait to explore it further.  Maybe I'd even find some clues about getting home along the way! Evil laugh.

As soon as Gideon disappeared into the building, I took a deep breath and scanned the area.  Okay, Operation Explore Ravencrest was a go!

Oh! I'm excited.

First stop: the shops!  I practically skipped over to the nearest storefront, eager to see what treasures Ravencrest had to offer.  My jaw dropped as I peeked inside.

Amazing paintings adorned the walls, glittering jewelry-filled display cases, and gemstones in every color imaginable sparkled under the lamps. Woah!  This place was like a giant treasure chest!  They even had their own currency – shiny gold coins and hefty copper ones.  So cool!

As I wandered from shop to shop, I noticed people giving me curious looks.  Maybe it was the way I dressed, so different from their clothes.  Or maybe… a blush crept up my cheeks.  Maybe they just thought I looked interesting?  Oh yeah, I know I'm beautiful!

The thought made me giggle a little self-consciously.  Attention always made me feel a bit awkward, even if I tried to act cool about it.

Suddenly, a voice cut through the lively chatter of the marketplace.  "A visitor from another world… fascinating."

I looked around, my heart jumped to see a guy staring at me. He's definitely eye-catching.  He was dressed in head-to-toe black leather, with two wicked-looking daggers strapped to his hip like he was ready for battle. He looked dangerous, but for some reason, I didn't feel scared.  More like… intrigued.

"Who are you?" I managed to ask, trying to sound brave.

He grinned, his gaze lingering on my face a beat too long.  "My name's Zahir," he drawled.  "That face of yours… it's new to me, like an angel I've never seen before.  But for some reason, it feels strangely familiar…"

His words left me speechless.  We'd never met, that much was certain.  Unless maybe he'd crossed over from my world somehow?  But if someone that good-looking had come from my dimension, there was no way I wouldn't remember him.  A slow smile spread across my face.
