Chapter 161 Confusion

Chapter 161 Confusion
\[Raelyn’s POV\]
I watch Osiris’ retreating back, taking it in as a feeling of emptiness starts to rush through me.
It’s strange, and I can’t quite make sense of it because I’m certain that until just now I’ve never met this man, and yet…
I close my eyes, and I see something, but it’s blurry, and I’m not sure if it is something my mind is just making up or something important.
Raelyn.
I can almost hear Osiris’ voice saying my name sweetly and filled with love, and I can feel his warm embrace, but before I can understand why I’m even imagining these things, the image is gone, and I’m left with darkness.
Opening my eyes, I find that Osiris is gone and that my mother-in-law is fuming, but when she finally turns to me, she simply smiles.
“I think we should call it a day here.” She announces. “You just witnessed something quite unpleasant and stress isn’t good for either you or the pups.”
Nodding, I look in the direction that Osiris disappeared in as if I expect him to be there, but when I’m met with nothing, I shake off the unpleasantness that I’m feeling.
“You’re right,” I murmur, suddenly wanting to be alone. “I’m feeling a bit uneasy after all of that.”
“It’s okay, sweetie,” my mother-in-law murmurs, touching my shoulder. “I’ll call Ray to come and help you back to your room.”
“You don’t have to!” I gasp as she pulls her phone out. “I’m fine to…”
“It’s the least I can do.”
Opening my mouth, I prepare to try to argue, but it’s too late as she dials Ray’s number and then waits for him to answer.
“Ray!” She beams when he finally does. “Are you busy?”
Growing quiet, she waits while Ray responds, and when her smile broadens, I know that he isn’t up to anything.
“Great,” she sighs. “We are finished with looking through dresses. Please be a dear and come and help Raelyn up to her room. You see, Osiris paid us a visit and she is terribly uneasy after all of that. What?” She continues, her expression shifting. “No, of course not.” I wait as she grows quiet, listening intently to what Ray is saying and when she lets out a huff of annoyance I can’t help but wonder what it is that he is saying. “You don’t have to worry about such things. I already told you that I have everything under control. Now, come and help your fiance. Maybe take her out for a nice meal to help Raelyn relax.”
“Mother,” I say quietly, not wanting her to give Ray too much trouble. “It’s okay, I can…”
“Don’t be silly, sweetie,” she smiles. “As your fiancé and the father of your pups, this is the least he can do. Isn’t that right?” She continues, focusing on her phone conversation once more. “Alright, I’ll see you soon.”
Satisfied with whatever Ray has said, she hangs up and then turns her gaze back to me.
“Alright, now that that is settled, why don’t we look at a few more dresses.”
I don’t get the chance to speak before she heads back to the rack of dresses and starts rummaging through them, and honestly I know that if I did try to say anything, she wouldn’t listen to me.
A few minutes later, Ray appears with a look of unease, but the minute his mother approaches him, the look disappears.
“You came quickly,” she giggles, ushering him toward me. “You must have been extremely worried about your honey.”
“Y-yeah,” Ray stammers, peeking toward me. “I guess you could say that.”
As he speaks, I can’t help but feel like he is hiding something, but when our eyes meet, I can’t see anything to confirm my suspicion.
“Are you alright?” He asks me, starting to move toward me. “My brother didn’t do or say anything to hurt you, did he?”
“Of course not,” I respond, smiling. “I’m fine, really.”
Nodding, he turns to his mother once more and then holds out a hand to me.
“I’ll be taking her then,” he announces as I reach out and take the hand he is offering. “But instead of taking her out somewhere, I will escort her back to her room. It’s about time that Jean came to give her an examination anyway.”
“Of course,” my mother-in-law smiles. “Do what needs to be done, please.”
Nothing more is said as I rise to my feet and then allow Ray to lead me out into the hall and then toward my room.
When we arrive, he leads me toward the bed and then takes me in.
“Are you really okay?” He asks, eyeing me. “There’s no discomfort or anything?”
Frowning, I try to make sense of why he would be so worried since I was in the presence of his mother.
“Should I have something wrong with me?” I ask.
“No,” he responds, but the look of concern stays. “If you’ll excuse me, I’ll go get Jean.”
He doesn’t wait for me to say anything more before he heads out of the room, leaving me alone to my thoughts and feelings and when he returns, I’m thankful for a distraction from the things that are slowly plaguing me.
“How are you feeling?” Jean asks, sitting down beside me as Ray heads out of the room. “Are you experiencing any discomfort?”
“None,” I respond, taking her in and realizing that most of her injuries have disappeared. “I truly believe that all of you are worrying for nothing.”
“It isn’t for nothing.” She responds, taking me by surprise. “There is plenty reason for us to be concerned about you and the pups.”
“Why is that?” I ask.
When everything was explained to me about my engagement, my pregnancy, and how Jean and I came to know each other, I couldn’t help but feel like there was something that nobody was telling me.
How could there not be with the tension that seemed to build when we were all together?”
It was strange to say the least, but when I asked about it no one would tell me a thing.
“What are you all keeping from me?” I ask, wondering if she would be honest with me. “There is something, right?”
For a moment, Jean doesn’t speak. Instead, she just stares at me, her expression uneasy, her face paling.
“That…” She begins, looking to Ray, who sits in the corner quietly.
“Do it,” he says, causing Jean’s eyes to widen. “Return her memories.”
