Chapter 55 The prince has found his mate
Enna and I spent the rest of the day preparing for the dinner. Mom sent one of the maids to tell me to dress nicely, and I did.
Enna followed me to the dining hall, ensuring she stood close to me the whole time.
The old man came to sit next to me, just like he did the last time. The only difference was that he didn't say a word to me, unlike the previous occasion.
I was shocked when I saw Kael at the table. Elias had earlier told me that the alpha had sent him to his brother's place, so what was he doing here?
Shortly after, Elias arrived as well, a bit late, but the alpha didn't seem to mind.
I could see how the prince was glaring daggers at him, but he didn't seem to care. His focus was on medieval times, and I guess the prince noticed it because he wouldn't stop coughing.
At one point, he coughed, and the alpha asked if he was okay. He replied yes, but after coughing again, the alpha got up and nearly walked him out of the table.
The kitchen maids served the food, and we all dug in.
While we ate, the alpha discussed some matters with them.
At one point, the curious old man came again. Out of nowhere, he asked where the prince had gone these past few days.
The question alone nearly made me choke on my food, but thankfully, I managed to compose myself.
He was only trying to irritate the alpha by asking that question, because the prince had been around the whole time.
The fact that I didn't see him for some time doesn't mean he wasn't around; probably he had gone out. But he didn't travel, like Elias had told me.
"And where did you get that information? The last time I checked, the prince has been around the whole time. So who told you he wasn't?" you have to ask, dropping his spoon.
I don't know why the alpha took an interest in calling them to the dining table. I mean, they all have their homes and can just eat at home. Why must he call them to the dining hall?
"No, it's not like I'm not minding my business; I just heard it from someone and thought it would be better if I asked to confirm," he replied.
"Maybe you should have just asked the person who told you that the prince wasn't around. Maybe he would have told you the full details. And to answer your question, he didn't go anywhere; he has been around the whole time. I don't know who is feeding you information, but I'll be grateful if you observe carefully before coming to give me this information because I wouldn't tolerate you asking me dumb questions," the alpha responded angrily before ending with a smile.
"I'm sorry, Alpha. I didn't mean to piss you off. I only asked because I thought it was necessary. The reason I had the courage to ask was that I saw him with my own eyes. Yes, I was told, but I also saw him leaving the castle with some of his things, and I thought I should ask. I'm only looking out for the prince; nothing serious," the old man said, smiling sheepishly.
It would have been better if he just kept his mouth shut and let us eat in peace, but he wouldn't do that. He preferred asking questions that irritated the alpha; he was intentionally doing it.
"The fact that you saw him leaving the palace does not mean he was traveling. He only went for a walk, and you documented it to come here and ask me... don't you think you are going too far?" you have asked, and he sighed.
"I'm sorry if you feel like I'm asking too much. I was only asking because I care about the prince; he is the future alpha, so it is our duty to ensure that he is safe. I'm only asking all these questions because I care about the prince." Thank God I wasn't on his list today.
"That's enough!" the alpha cut him off.
"I'm sorry if I pissed you off, but I'm not done with what I was saying. I mean, I also have another thing to say, and I hope you will give me the permission to because what I have to say is very important," he told the alpha.
The alpha didn't want him to speak at first, but when he noticed the rest of the council was looking at him, he had no option but to let him say what he had in mind.
"The prince has found his mate!" he said, and my mind skipped.
