Chapter 32
Chapter 32
"You ran off and left me to die! How did you not kill me! Tell me! How!" Her cynical voice boomed in the room sending goosebumps on Laila's body.
"I am sorry. I tried to get here as fast as I could, i-" Laila tried to explain but Elena stopped her
"Shut up! You are a liar! Oh, you think I don't know? You are a fucking werewolf Laila and you never told me! I told you everything there was to know about me and you..." Elena said moving even closer to Laila. "You lied to me through your teeth! You are a monster!"
"I am sorry. I am sorry!" Laila chanted as tears fell continuously down her face. Her legs had reached the door she so desired to reach but she couldn't run anymore. She had no strength to run. Her legs became weak and she slumped to the floor.
"I hate you, Laila! And I will not rest until I have you killed as well!" Elena barked.
"Please, I am sorry..." Laila cried between her legs.
She felt her throat constrict and her words became difficult to let out. She didn't wish for anything to happen to Elena. That was why her initial plan had been to leave as soon as she got the message from Adam. She never thought whoever wanted her would kill Elena too. She thought she was protecting Elena from the truth.
"Elena, I am sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you. I didn't— Laila cried but Elena hissed shutting her up.
"You didn't what! Now listen," she spat, going on her knees beside Laila. "Kyle is coming for you and he is going to kill you. There is no saving you now Laila..." She cackled in hysterical laughter. The laughter got louder, and the sound became disturbing.
Laila pressed her hands to ears blocking the sound as she moved back and forth begging Elana over and over. "I am sorry, I am sorry. I am sorry."
"Laila."
"I am sorry. I am so sorry." Laila continued chanting ignoring the voice calling at her.
"Laila." The voice called again.
"I didn't mean it, I am sorry." She kept saying.
"Laila!"
Someone shook her roughly and she jerked awake. Her heart was still thumping as her eyes tried to register the change in environment. She was back in the cave and Adam was in front of her, holding her shoulder.
"Laila," Adam called again and she realized the soft voice she heard was his.
One look at her, Adam could understand what she had gone through. She had a bad nightmare. Her face was flushed and her eyes were filled with tears. His heart sank at the sadness in them. Especially knowing that he had a hand in it. If he could change the past, he would make sure her life was easier. He pulled her into him and held her close in his arms.
"It's okay, I got you now. It's okay." He whispered, patting her back gently. He could still feel the tremors of her sobs as they vibrated within her.
Her sobs had subsided but she remained in Adam's arms. Laila felt like a walking dead. She didn't know what to do or feel. Her mind was numb as she rested on Adam's shoulder and he let her be, never complaining about the burden.
Laila didn't even know which was right or wrong. Was she even doing the right thing? This guy she was with, was the same guy who took Elena from her but that was just a stupid excuse she was giving. Elena just got caught up in her web of problems. If she had stayed on her own all this while, she wouldn't have jeopardized Elena's life. She would have still been alive whether Adam came or not. It wasn't Adam's fault, it was her fault. She killed Elena.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Adam asked.
Laila wiped her tears and pulled away from him. "I don't know," she answered sincerely in a small weak voice.
"Talking helps to ease some pain," Adam offered with a shrug.
Laila wiped another stray tear and took a deep breath.
"I thought you were having a great time until you went still and started screaming," Adam explained.
Despite her pain, Laila smiled at his comment. "Yeah, for a second there I got carried away."
"Who was it?" Adam took her hands and started drawing circles on them. "Who did you see?"
"It was Elena..." She said falling onto his chest again. Adam had become her only support and she was starting to depend on him with every single thing.
"She said Kyle was coming for me and that she hated me." Her voice was muffled between Adam's chest and he had to strain his ears to be able to pick out what she was saying.
"Don't worry I've promised that nothing will happen to you. Kyle can't hurt you, no matter how he tries. I am here and I'll never leave you... " Adam said trying to comfort her.
His words worked like medicine to an injury. She felt her pain start to fade and she hugged him tighter. Adam was very caring and almost perfect if you took away his constant need to kill — which he had been trying to suppress.
They stayed like this enjoying each other's warmth until it started getting dark outside. Laila and her wolf were enjoying the soft caresses, Adam was administering to her. She closed her eyes and allowed her body to relax further into him. That dream did not just scare her, it also made her wolf aroused. She was starting to feel this painful need between her core and she didn't know what to do about it, but hugging Adam reduced it to a comfortable level.
"I should go add more fish to that fire," Adam whispered. Laila understood and pulled away from him.
As Adam was working she watched him, she noticed how his tight muscles clenched and unclenched under his t-shirt. She watched how his dark hair fell over his face and he ran a hand through it. She was seeing it in slow motion and she was loving it. Adam was so handsome, without even trying.
After Elena, she had never thought of getting into a relationship with anybody ever again. She never imagined it to be a male, if it ever happened. Elena made her fall in love with the female gender. Their gentle yet loving nature was what she needed to push down her wolf side. Her wolf was aggressive, so technically to tame it, she needed someone calmer. Now that Elena was gone, her wolf was no longer tamed. It was free to roam around and do whatever it wanted. And now, she was certain it was going into heat period and she didn't know what to do about it.
Adam finished setting the fish to the flame and walked to the little makeshift kitchen by the side of the cave. He took out a plate and opened a can, throwing the content into the plate. He then took bread and added it to the place with a grin on his face, he took it to her.
"I got you something to eat. You didn't say it but I felt you are starting to hate fish. So I went to a nearby town and got you something different," he said, placing the plate in front of her.
Laila dropped her eyes to the plate and her insides warmed up. Adam was such a sweet guy and she couldn't help the attraction she was starting to feel towards him.
"Is this canned spaghetti?" Laila asked with amusement in her eyes.
Adam scratched the back of his head and nodded. "It was the best I could find. It also has meatballs! You will love it!"
Laila already loved the food even before tasting it as long as it was Adam who gave it to her with that spark in his eyes.
"Come let us go to the creek for fresh air," Adam said when she had finished eating.
She happily took his hand and held it as her life depended on it. Together they walked silently through the stony path by the side of the cave, that led to the creek.
The evening was beautiful. The sun was setting and its departure was a mixture of yellow and orange hues in the sky. The colors blended to bring a romantic canopy to the creek. The water was clear and it reflected the beautiful sky. The leaves around the creek were green and fresh, calling unto Laila to run her fingers over them.
Adam soon found a good place to seat and they positioned themself on it. He took her hand into his and he started rubbing circles on it, trying to ease her stress, something she noticed he did a lot.
