Chapter 157 The Plane Is Falling
Chapter 157 The Plane Is Falling
Selene’s POV
The strange feeling began before I even stepped onto Lucian’s private jet, and although I could not explain it, every instinct inside me warned that something was wrong.
Lucian’s injured arm had kept us in Fostrau for several more days after the charity auction. Thankfully, the wound had not been serious, and with proper treatment and enough rest, it had largely healed. Once he was well enough to travel, there was no longer any reason for us to remain in Fostrau, so preparations were made for our return home.
Hannah, however, had disappeared.
No one seemed to know where she had gone after escaping from the hotel, and surprisingly, Lucian had not pursued the matter or held her accountable for attacking him. Considering she had cut his arm with a dagger, I had expected him to make sure she faced the consequences, but he did not.
I did not question him about it.
At that point, I simply wanted to leave Fostrau behind.
The sky was perfectly clear when we arrived at the private jet. There was hardly anything threatening about the weather. Blue stretched endlessly overhead, and nothing around us suggested that the flight would be anything other than peaceful.
Yet just as I approached the jet, my footsteps suddenly stopped.
Something tightened inside my chest.
I stared at the aircraft.
“What's wrong?”
Lucian’s voice pulled my attention toward him.
He had noticed immediately that I had stopped walking, and now he was watching me with curiosity.
I shook my head lightly.
“It’s nothing.”
That was what I said, but I knew it was not true.
A strange sense of unease had appeared without warning, and instead of fading, it settled deeper into my chest. This was not ordinary nervousness. It was not simply my fear of heights either.
It felt like a warning.
A powerful premonition.
Something significant was going to happen.
I could feel it.
The sensation disturbed me because I had never experienced anything this strong since becoming the Alpha of the Bloodfang Pack. My instincts had always been sharp, but this was different. Every part of me seemed to be telling me not to ignore the feeling.
I looked at the jet again.
Lucian apparently misunderstood my hesitation.
“Still worried about your fear of heights?”
Before I could answer, his large hand closed gently around mine.
“Don’t be scared. I’m here.”
His voice was cool and steady, carrying the quiet confidence that somehow always made dangerous situations feel less frightening.
I looked down at our joined hands.
The tension inside me eased slightly.
Perhaps I really was thinking too much.
After everything that had happened in Fostrau, it would not be strange for my nerves to remain unsettled. The warehouse explosion, Jordan’s betrayal, the press conference, Hannah’s attack and Lucian being injured had all happened within a short period.
Maybe I was simply exhausted.
I gave him a small smile and allowed him to lead me forward.
Together, we boarded the plane.
Not long afterward, the jet took off smoothly and climbed into the sky.
I settled into my seat beside the window and watched the world below disappear beneath the clouds. Soon, there was nothing outside except endless white clouds drifting beneath the aircraft.
I tried to forget the warning I had felt before boarding.
My thoughts gradually shifted back to everything that had happened during our trip to Fostrau.
The biggest gain had been uncovering the person behind the Frost and Flame incident. What began as accusations that our jewelry contained radioactive materials had grown into something far more dangerous. There had been deliberate sabotage, a warehouse explosion and an attempt to destroy Moonveil Group’s reputation completely.
At least the truth had finally come out.
Jordan Blackwood had been exposed.
Because of that, Moonveil Group had not only regained its stability but had risen even higher after the crisis.
Still, one part of the situation continued to bother me.
“By the way, have Jordan and Madison confessed?”
I turned away from the window and looked at Lucian.
His brows drew together slightly.
“Jordan took all the blame upon himself, while Madison completely distanced herself from everything.”
“I see…”
I leaned back thoughtfully.
So Madison was still protecting herself.
“Looks like Jordan truly loves Madison.”
There was no other reasonable explanation for him taking responsibility for everything while allowing her to separate herself from the scandal.
But what a foolish kind of love.
Jordan had allowed himself to become blinded by it. He had sabotaged Moonveil Group, arranged the contamination scandal and eventually crossed a line that could never be undone. He had committed countless unforgivable acts, all while trying to satisfy a woman who had used his feelings for her own revenge.
Lucian’s lips curved slightly, but he said nothing.
I continued thinking.
Jordan accepting responsibility might have given investigators an easy answer, but I still did not believe the entire situation was as simple as it appeared.
“I wonder how much involvement Diamondstone Jewels had in all of this.”
I rubbed my temples.
Jordan’s connection to Madison and Diamondstone Jewels had already been exposed. Yet the more I thought about it, the more questions appeared.
Even though Jordan had taken full responsibility, my instincts told me there might be more behind everything.
Lucian turned toward me.
The coldness he usually showed others was absent from his expression. Instead, rare warmth appeared in his eyes.
“Stop thinking about it.”
I raised my eyebrows.
“You’ve been exhausted these past few days in Fostrau,” he continued. “Get some rest.”
I could not really argue with that.
My body was tired, and my mind had barely stopped working since we arrived in Fostrau.
“Fine.”
I nodded obediently.
For once, I decided to listen to him without arguing.
I settled comfortably into my seat and closed my eyes.
The quiet hum of the plane gradually faded into the background. My body relaxed, and before long, exhaustion pulled me into sleep.
I had no idea how long I had been asleep when something suddenly shook beneath me.
My eyes remained closed for another second.
Then the plane shook again.
I opened my eyes.
At first, the tremors were small enough that I assumed we had simply entered an area of turbulence.
Then another violent movement rocked the cabin.
My body jerked against the seat.
The plane shook again, harder this time.
I was instantly awake.
My hand moved on instinct and grabbed Lucian’s.
“Lucian, what’s happening?”
My voice betrayed the fear rising inside me.
He immediately pulled me toward him.
“Probably strong turbulence.”
His arm wrapped securely around me, holding me against his chest as another tremor moved through the aircraft.
“Don’t worry. Close your eyes. It’ll pass soon.”
His familiar warmth calmed me slightly.
I tried to believe him.
Turbulence happened.
Planes shook.
There was no reason to panic.
Except the shaking did not stop.
It became worse.
The jet suddenly dropped enough to send my stomach upward, and I gripped Lucian tighter.
Something was wrong.
I saw the realization appear on his face too.
The reassuring calm in his expression disappeared.
His eyes sharpened.
This was no longer normal turbulence.
The shaking was too violent and had continued for far too long.
Before either of us could speak, a flight attendant hurried toward us.
Her face was pale with panic.
“Mr. Frostbane, bad news!”
Lucian immediately turned toward her.
“The plane is out of control!”
For one second, I thought I had misheard her.
What?
Out of control?
My fingers tightened.
How could a perfectly functional private jet suddenly lose control in the middle of the sky?
My heart clenched painfully.
Then I remembered the feeling I had experienced before boarding.
That warning.
That terrible sense that something significant was about to happen.
It had not been imagination.
My premonition was coming true.
Fear surged through me.
Lucian, however, remained composed.
He gave my shoulder a reassuring pat before standing.
“I’ll go check it out.”
“I’m coming with you.”
I stood immediately.
There was no chance I was going to remain sitting in a violently shaking cabin while Lucian went forward alone.
Lucian looked at me briefly.
“Sure.”
He reached out with his right arm and pulled me close to his side so I would not lose my balance.
“It’s alright,” he said, his voice softening despite the danger around us. “Don’t be scared.”
Another violent shake tore through the aircraft.
I nearly stumbled.
Lucian tightened his hold on me.
Moving through the plane became increasingly difficult. Every few steps, another sudden movement forced us to steady ourselves before continuing.
My heart pounded harder with every second.
The fear I had felt before boarding was now impossible to ignore.
Still, Lucian kept me securely against him.
There was something about his presence that gave me a sense of safety I had never experienced before. Even while the aircraft shook violently around us, part of me believed that as long as he was holding me, somehow everything might still be all right.
We finally reached the cockpit.
The atmosphere there immediately destroyed that fragile hope.
Lucian’s brows furrowed.
“What’s going on?”
The pilot was covered in cold sweat.
Both hands gripped the controls desperately, but his face had turned frighteningly pale.
The plane shook again.
The pilot struggled with the controls before looking toward us with panic written across his face.
“We’re going down!”
My blood turned cold.
“I can’t control it!”
My heart slammed against my ribs.
Then the pilot shouted the words that made every other thought disappear.
“The plane is going to crash!”
Crash?!
My heart leaped into my throat.
