Chapter 154 He Took The Blade

Chapter 154 He Took The Blade
Selene’s POV

“Frieda, she’s too weak. You don’t need to bother,” I told my wolf through our mind link, certain that Hannah was no longer a threat after I had knocked her to the floor. However, before I could decide what to do with her, movement near the restroom entrance caught my attention.

Two burly werewolves were standing beside the door.

My eyes narrowed.

So Hannah had not come alone.

While my attention shifted toward them, Hannah pushed herself up from the floor. One hand remained pressed against her jaw where my elbow had struck her, and pain twisted her face as she staggered toward the entrance. Instead of trying to escape, she reached for the lock and secured the restroom door from the inside.

The click told me everything I needed to know.

This had been planned.

Hannah slowly turned toward me. Her eyes burned with hatred as she rubbed her aching jaw, and whatever fear my earlier attack had put into her had already been swallowed by the confidence she gained from having two strong werewolves beside her.

She pointed at me furiously.

“What are you waiting for? Grab her already!” she snapped at them. “Tonight, I’m going to carve up that pretty little face of hers myself!”

I looked from Hannah to the two men.

So that was her plan.

She had lured me into an enclosed place where no one from the auction could easily see what was happening. The two werewolves were supposed to overpower me while she took her revenge.

Unfortunately for her, the only thing she had failed to consider was who she was truly dealing with.

The two burly werewolves exchanged cruel smiles.

Then their bodies began to shift.

Within moments, two massive black wolves stood inside the restroom. Their heavy paws pressed against the floor as they lowered their bodies, ready to attack.

Hannah’s excitement grew.

“Selene, today is the day you die!”

I looked at the two black wolves rushing toward me and felt the corner of my mouth lift.

If they wanted a wolf, I would give them one.

“Frieda!”

My wolf had been waiting for that command.

After nearly a month of remaining suppressed, Frieda surged forward with such eagerness that I barely had time to finish calling her name before she took control of my consciousness.

My body shifted in an instant.

Hannah’s POV

What happened next made no sense.

I had chosen those two werewolves because I knew they were strong. Against an ordinary Omega, either one of them should have been more than enough.

Yet Selene moved.

Fast.

Far too fast.

The first black wolf lunged for her, but Selene avoided him before his claws could touch her. The second attacked from the opposite direction, trying to trap her between them.

She dodged him too.

My mouth fell open.

How?

Selene was supposed to be a low-ranking Omega.

“Get her!” I screamed. “What are you doing? Tear her apart!”

Both black wolves attacked again.

For one second, I thought they had finally cornered her.

Then an overwhelming force exploded through the cramped restroom.

Both wolves were thrown backward as though they weighed nothing. Their enormous bodies crashed violently into the walls, and several mirrors shattered beneath the impact.

I stumbled backward in shock.

Then I saw it.

A massive silver wolf leaped from the place where Selene had been standing.

My blood turned cold.

Selene was gone.

A strangled scream escaped my throat as I stared at the silver wolf.

No.

This could not be happening.

The two black wolves shook themselves and struggled back onto their feet. Angered by the humiliation, they lowered their bodies and charged again.

The silver wolf did not retreat.

She moved with terrifying speed and control.

One black wolf swiped at her, but she slipped away before his claws reached her. The other tried to attack from behind, yet she twisted aside and struck back with enough force to send him crashing down.

Everything happened so quickly that I could barely follow it.

The restroom that I had chosen because I thought it would trap Selene now worked against my men. They had nowhere to create distance, while the silver wolf seemed perfectly comfortable fighting in the limited space.

She dodged.

Struck.

Turned.

Attacked.

Within moments, both black wolves were slammed to the floor beneath her powerful claws.

Neither one got up again.

Silence settled around me.

My legs began trembling.

I had forgotten all about the knife. I had forgotten about revenge and the plan Winnie had given me.

All I could see was that enormous silver wolf.

Its presence pressed down on me so heavily that breathing became difficult.

There was no mistaking that aura.

Alpha.

My knees gave way.

I dropped to the floor.

Selene was an Alpha?

How could Selene possibly be an Alpha?

She had allowed everyone to believe she was an insignificant Omega from Firstband. People had mocked her, looked down on her, and treated her as though she were beneath them.

All this time, she had possessed Alpha strength?

“Look at me.”

Selene’s voice made my heart jump.

I slowly raised my head.

The silver wolf had disappeared.

Selene stood in its place, looking down at me with the same calm, indifferent expression she always wore.

That frightened me even more.

She had just defeated two powerful werewolves without difficulty, yet she looked as though nothing important had happened.

“Hannah, I gave you a chance,” she said calmly. “But you kept pushing your luck. You even dared to come after me like this.”

Her gaze hardened.

“Tell me, what should I do with you?”

Every bit of courage left me.

“I… I didn’t know you were an Alpha.”

My voice shook uncontrollably.

If I had known, I would never have come here.

“Please, Selene, let me go!” I begged. “I swear I’ll never show my face in front of you again!”

Selene gave a quiet chuckle.

“Let you go?”

Before I could answer, someone knocked on the restroom door.

My head snapped toward it.

“Selene, are you okay?”

I recognized the voice immediately.

Lucian.

Lucian Frostbane of the Moonveil Pack.

Hope exploded inside me.

If Lucian entered and saw what Selene had done, I could tell him everything. More importantly, Selene would not dare kill me in front of him.

I opened my mouth to scream for help.

Selene was faster.

Her hand clamped over my mouth before I could make a sound. I struggled, but something bitter and foul was suddenly forced between my lips.

My eyes widened.

The taste was unmistakable.

Wolfsbane.

Fear shot through me as I swallowed.

“What did you make me eat?” I gasped.

Selene looked completely calm.

“Just something to make you forget all of this.”

My heart sank.

Lucian’s POV

The closer I came to the restroom, the stronger the uneasy feeling in my chest became.

Then I heard a commotion inside.

Something was definitely wrong.

“Selene, are you okay?”

I knocked firmly.

No answer.

I tried the door.

Locked.

“Selene, are you in there? What’s going on?”

Still nothing.

Then a sharp female scream came from inside.

My blood ran cold.

I stopped thinking.

“Dylan!”

I immediately surrendered control to my wolf.

Dylan surged forward.

The enormous white wolf raised one powerful paw and slammed it against the restroom door. The force shattered the door in half, clearing the entrance instantly.

What I saw inside stopped me.

Two black wolves were sprawled across the floor.

Blood stained their fur, and neither seemed capable of standing. Broken glass covered the floor from several shattered mirrors, while the entire restroom looked as though a violent fight had just taken place.

My eyes searched frantically for Selene.

There.

She stood off to one side with her arms crossed.

Hannah was slumped on the floor nearby.

I stared at the scene, momentarily confused.

On the way here, I had imagined Selene trapped or injured. I had expected to find her desperately defending herself against whoever had attacked her.

Instead, she was standing calmly in the middle of the destruction while her attackers were on the floor.

I regained control from Dylan and shifted back into my human form before striding toward her.

“Selene, what happened?”

She barely reacted.

“Oh, nothing much,” she said coolly. “They tried to ambush me, but they ended up crashing into the mirrors and passing out.”

My gaze moved toward the two unconscious wolves.

Crashing into mirrors?

Both of them?

Something about that explanation made absolutely no sense.

Before I could question her further, my attention caught on a thin red mark along her neck.

My expression changed.

“Your neck. What happened?”

Selene lifted her hand and touched the mark. The moment her fingers brushed it, a soft hiss escaped her.

“Oh, that? Just a scratch.”

A scratch?

The line looked too clean.

It resembled a cut from a blade.

Concern tightened my chest.

“I should take you to the hospital.”

Selene immediately waved away the suggestion.

“No need. It’s just a small cut. It’ll heal in a few days.”

She rubbed her temples, looking exhausted rather than frightened by what had just happened. Then she looked at me.

“Weren’t you supposed to be at the auction? Why are you here?”

Because she had disappeared for too long.

Because her phone was off.

Because something inside me had told me to come looking for her.

I did not explain any of that.

“I still think you should get checked out,” I insisted.

My eyes swept over the ruined restroom again.

Two unconscious black wolves.

Hannah on the floor.

Selene with a knife-like cut on her neck.

Something about this entire scene felt wrong, and I was not willing to leave her here.

I reached for Selene, intending to lead her outside.

Then a furious scream exploded behind us.

“Selene, you bitch! Die!”

I spun around.

Hannah, who had been almost motionless on the floor moments earlier, suddenly lunged forward.

Her face was twisted with rage.

A dagger gleamed in her hand.

She was heading directly for Selene’s back.

“Selene, watch out!”

My eyes widened.

Hannah was already too close.

There was no time for Selene to turn or dodge.

I did not think.

I simply moved.

I threw myself between them and raised my arm to shield Selene.

The dagger sliced through my sleeve.

A sharp pain tore through my arm as the blade cut into my skin.

A low grunt escaped me, but Hannah’s attack had been stopped before it could reach Selene.

Hannah froze.

Her eyes widened as she realized who she had stabbed.

The rage disappeared from her face, replaced by complete shock.

Her fingers loosened.

With a metallic clang, the dagger slipped from her grasp and clattered onto the floor.
