Nineteen

Abigail’s POV

I stared at my own toes and hated how pale they looked. The entire night had been freezing cold and I didn't have access to even a rag to cover my feet. Wolves don't necessarily perceive cold as normal people do but it still gets to us. I rested my head against the wall, my head filled with several thoughts.

Why do I have to end up like this, why must I be the one losing out at every turn. I am here currently sitting in a cell in the most unjust manner possible and yet there was nothing I could do about it. I glanced around my encampment. The cold hard floor and the silence that radiated the entire area. The most unbearable thing was the stench. It smelled like a mixture of sweats and human wastes all just combined to make my life a living hell.

I sighed as my memories drifted back to the past and what I was before all this. Laurie had always been there satan for me at every turn and wrenching my happiness out of me. She never liked me, nor did she try to hide it. She had always enjoyed making my life a difficult hell to live in.

“That is your fault. Clean this up! You stupid dog, get out! Her phrases settled in my mind one after the other. It felt like thorns piercing into my head. I hated being in this kind of situation. Helpless and sorrowful, unable to do anything for myself.

I needed to rethink the way I lived outside. It seemed I have been coming on too strong for Laurie and that is why she sees me as a hindrance. I need to learn to start evading her, making myself scarce in her presence.

As Inhad studied, she saw me as more of a threat than a mere servant. She was starting to see me as a subservient tool that is suddenly trying to glaze past its master. I need to start avoiding her and listening to her.

I needed to reduce the denotation of my strength in her mind. She might have seen me as a better person than I was in the past and that might have given her hatred another reason to bloom. If I was interested in living at all I need to find a way to start curbing myself and reducing my own strength.

I needed to get more subservient, more useless. It was the only way to get her attention off of me. I needed, in simple terms, to hide my own strength. I sighed. Although I hated the entire idea, it seemed to me like the best option I have at the moment.

I shifted my body weight and walked to another edge of the cell. The stench of the area I was, suddenly got more intense.I stayed against the wall, shivering against the cold of the prison. The corner of my eyes felt caked with tears. I didn't seem to notice but I must have cried in my sleep.

I heard a footstep approach the prison cell and I glanced towards the iron bars, shivering backwards in fear. A guard stood against the bar, staring at me for an uncomfortable amount of time but I shrugged it off and didn't say a word.

Soon enough I heard keys rattling and then a loud movement of metal and soon enough he opened the door and walked into the cell. “Luna wants to see you,” he said.

My entire body felt a little shiver at the mention of Luna. It felt as if I was being dragged into a pit of fire while being raked across hot coals. The mention of that word now brought pain and an abject latent anger in me. I could feel my fury as I clenched my fist. If the universe would give me right I would go to meet her right now and pummel her with nothing but my fist tillI was satisfied.

I glanced at the guard in front of me who just stared at me like I was just an empty sack of potatoes. He held no emotion in his eyes and I knew if I tried any trickery with him he would knock me down so fast.

I sighed and nodded as I walked outside. My feet shook as I took my step as it would seem the thought of Luna was actually colder than the weather in the holding cell. I dragged myself outside slowly following the guard who walked in front of me with subtle steps in order for me to keep up.

My hair drooled over my face and my body ached with every step I took. I shook and almost tipped over and fell. I was in more pain than I have been for a while. At last with the guidance of the guard we reached Luna.

She stood right in front of me, a wicked grin etched across her face. My entire being was wishing it could just punch this woman once. “Do you now see that defying me is futile?” She asked with a subtle smile. “Nothing you do will ever matter. You need to understand that. No one is coming to save you,” she said to me. “I hope you have come to that understanding?” She asked.

“Not even the Alpha is going to rescue you Abigail! You are stuck with me.”

I shrugged and didn't really say a word. I wasn't interested in any of her nuances at the moment. I just wanted to be left alone for a while and get my head straight.

“You can go,” she said to the guard and gave me a cheeky grin as she walked majestically towards her chair. She sat down there and I began to wonder if she couldn't smell the stench coming from me or was she so full of hate that the only thing that she sees when I am in front of her is a tool to be punished?

I shook my head and didn't say a word as she began to speak again. “So, how did time in solitude affect your ego?” She asked me.

I kept quiet. “Oh we don't feel like talking today. I mean I could have told you to make food for yourself but considering the fact that your mouth isn't really open yet why don't you cook me some dinner,” she made a cackle and took a sip from the glass of wine in front of her.

I would be lying to myself if I said I wasn't resisting the urge to just launch forward in front of her and grab the wine glass. I was so darn hungry but I kept my cool and comforted myself. I dragged myself into the kitchen, my head feeling empty as I did.

The moment I reached the kitchen the first thing I did was just to smash myself against the ground and relax a bit. It took all my energy to walk to her room. After a few seconds of relaxing, I didn't dare take more than a few seconds. I am already familiar with her games so I wouldn't let myself be caught in the trap anymore.

I stood up and decided to make some lamb chops and soup by its side. Something simple that even a toddler can't mess it up. I brought the food together and as soon as it was done. I arranged it neatly and carried it towards her. It took all my strength not to just faint in front of her but I did it anyway.

I placed the food right in front of her and she opened it up without a word. I staggered backwards. I couldn't bear standing by the aroma of the food, it made me think of doing unthinkable things, and if I think about it too much, I might be tempted to act on it.

She hadn't taken a single bite when she threw the food away in annoyance. “What the hell is this?” She screamed.

“Ah shit, here we go again!” I muttered under my breath

“What the hell is wrong with you? You call that stale piece of trash food?” She asked me.

“I…” I wanted to speak but I held myself back. This woman didn't even deserve to hear my pleas. I wouldn't give her the pleasure. I stared dead into her eyes with a look that would stump even death itself in its boots.

“You know what, you will get three days more punishment. Solitude didn't do enough yet, but I am sure an additional three days will mold you into the best version of yourself yet again.”

“Guards!” She screamed.

I was going to hold my lips but I couldn't. I shook my head in annoyance. “Why do you always have to act like a fuckin' witch. Don't you get tired of it,” I groaned under my pain.

She glanced at me and lashed me a slap across the face.
