Chapter 373 373
Maurice POV
“Maurice! Maurice!”
Bee’s scream rips me straight out of sleep, fear shooting through my veins like lightning.
Are we under attack?
Why else would she be screaming like that?
Before I can even fully open my eyes, she launches herself onto the bed and directly onto me.
Not only does it send me into instant panic, but her knee connects brutally with my manhood.
“Ah!”
“I heard her!” she squeals, bouncing with excitement.
The relief that floods me when I realize we’re not being attacked lasts exactly half a second until the pain registers properly.
Sweet goddess.
Right where she landed.
“You heard who?” I groan, rolling onto my side, trying not to throw up from the nausea spreading through my body.
They were already swollen.
Now they’ll probably never be the same again.
“My wolf! In the kitchen well, not in the kitchen. In my head, while I was in the kitchen.”
I can barely see straight. The pain has gone full blinding mode.
Will they ever feel normal again?
“What were you doing in the kitchen?” I cough out.
“Making breakfast in bed. For you.”
Her words stop my coughing instantly.
I finally really look at her.
Her cheeks are flushed pink, her big cat-like eyes nearly popping out of her face with excitement.
Sexy.
Adorable.
I still can’t get over how much she’s changed since Gilles visited.
I don’t know what he did.
And honestly, I don’t want to know.
Whatever it was, it transformed her completely.
Is that such a bad thing?
Is it wrong that we’re finally in a good place? That things feel easier between us?
Why would I want to change that?
Watching her blush right now only reminds me how innocent she is how sheltered she was made by people who tried to take advantage of that sweetness.
“What did she say?” I ask, pulling myself together, though my voice comes out higher than usual.
“She said… hello,” she whispers.
“Hello?”
“She said hello, and that she was my wolf…”
I can’t stop the grin spreading across my face.
Best way to wake up minus the near castration.
“And then?” I prompt eagerly.
“Well…” She pauses.
“I came straight up here to tell you.”
She shrugs it off like it’s nothing but to me?
After everything we’ve been through?
It’s huge.
“Bee, that’s incredible news. Your wolf finally reached out to you. I’m so proud of you.”
“Why?”
“For handling all of this so well. I know it hasn’t been easy. I know it still isn’t easy. But soon you’ll see you two are going to be an amazing team.
Everything you’ll accomplish together.
She’ll be your strength. Your anchor.”
“I thought that was supposed to be you?” she says, lifting one brow.
“Oh, I am,” I chuckle. “But just imagine what you’ll be able to do soon.
Feel the pack bond.
Hear mind-links.
Shift.”
“Shift?” Her eyes light up even more.
“When can we do that?”
I didn’t think she could get any more excited.
I was wrong.
“Tomorrow.”
“Not today?” she pouts playfully.
“Today I have plans.”
I hadn’t told her yet about the surprise visitors I’d arranged.
“Oh. I thought you had the day off.”
“I do. And we’ve got guests.”
“Guests? Who?”
“Wait and see.”
She starts sliding off the bed.
“Where are you going?” I reach out and catch her, pulling her back toward me. I guide her onto my lap, her legs wrapping around my waist as she faces me.
“If we’re having visitors, I need to get ready…”
“It can wait.”
Her scent hits me instantly.
Vanilla, always vanilla and something else beneath it.
Something I still can’t quite place.
But it drives me crazy.
It always has.
My lips trail along her collarbone, slow and teasing. She’s only wearing her night vest and tight shorts leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination.
“Maurice…” she breathes.
“Mmm?”
“You always do this.”
“I can’t help it,” I murmur against her skin. “You taste too good.”
Good enough to devour.
“You say that…” she says softly, then pushes me away.
The playfulness is gone.
There’s hurt in her eyes now.
“…and then you pull away.”
“What are you talking about?”
“We always get to that point. Both of us hot and flustered, ready for more and then you stop.
If you don’t want it, don’t start it.”
“Oh, trust me,” I say quickly, pulling her back into me. My tongue traces her collarbone again.
“I want it.”
“Really?”
“Look at you,” I murmur. “Of course I want you. All of you.
You’re all I think about.”
She tilts her head as her fingers slide into my short hair, gripping it.
Just imagining her doing that when I’m buried deep inside her makes my body react instantly despite the lingering pain below.
“And…” I continue, forcing control into my voice, “when the time comes, it’ll be worth it.”
She watches me closely.
“Trust me.”
