Chapter 49
Nikolas’s POV.
Her smile was both brave and genuine as she replied, "I am." Hand in hand, we embarked on this journey, treading paths once so familiar but now covered in the untamed growth of plants, trees, and vibrant flowers that seemed to captivate Amira's attention with every step. The remnants of structures remained, some still standing with their basic forms intact. Many houses retained their frames, their windows shattered, and doors absent. Yet, the true biggest damage was done to the public centers and, most noticeably, Alpha's house—the heart of the community.
Our exploration brought us to her childhood home, a place that had seen laughter, dreams, and the passage of generations– now ruined. Half of the building was charred by fire, and at the heart of the ruins stood an imposing willow tree, a rarity in these parts dominated by palm trees and fruit-bearing trees. Notably, the mango tree in Amira's old backyard still stood proudly, enduring everything that had been thrown in its direction.
"Look, the mango tree survived," I exclaimed, and without hesitation, I tugged her along towards the tree, our hands remaining interlocked, dragging her with me.
Her eyes lit up with an affectionate nostalgia. "Oh, the memories," she said, her voice a mixture of fondness and amusement.
"We used to struggle so much to climb this tree, just for a single mango," I chuckled, gazing up at the crown of the tree, where the ripest fruits hung. Man, I hated climbing trees as a child.
A realization sparked in her eyes. "I could never understand how my father managed to gather so many mangoes without a speck of dirt on him," Amira mused, a smile curving her lips. "But now, I guess it was his powers at work. It must have been."
I grinned at her, a spark of mischief dancing in my eyes. "And now, you possess the same power, which could certainly make your husband quite content."
Her laughter filled the air, a melody that resonated in my heart. She leaned into me as I playfully brushed my lips against her cheek.
"Of course, what good are my powers if I can't bring happiness to my husband?" she replied, a mischievous glint in her eyes. With a graceful gesture, she lifted her hand, her abilities conjuring a delicate dance of telekinesis. Two plump mangoes surrendered to her command, gradually detaching themselves from the higher branches.
The mangoes found their way into her hands, and the longing for their sweetness grew as we exchanged knowing glances. "Here you go, my sweet husband," she purred playfully, releasing one of the mangoes into my eager grasp. I reached into our bag and retrieved a pocket knife, preparing to savor the first mango Swiftly, I switched the mangoes with her, so she wouldn’t have to cut hers herself. As the blade sliced through the flesh, releasing its mouthwatering fragrance, I couldn't help but steal a glance at the woman beside me—my partner, my love. This trip down memory lane had become more than a journey through ruins. I didn’t regret this trip one bit.
“This place is just as serene as it always was. Despite everything that has happened, it still brings the same positive energy,” I confessed, savoring the succulent bite of mango. I didn’t want to say this out loud just yet but the potential of rebuilding the Ocean Dawn pack was quite big. There were enough fruits to export and few mines to work for the economic part. There were beautiful nature sites that would offer an attraction park– It was all doable, I was a king with enough money to kickstart this pack. Yet I refrained from doing so right away, there were steps to be taken first, things to be calculated and thought about first.
Gazing at Amira, her face glowing with the joy of the moment, I knew that if I revealed the potential to her now, her happiness might bubble over in an explosion of delight. As she savored her mango, radiating a contentment that warmed my heart, my thoughts remained hidden, waiting for the right moment to unfurl.
After our relaxed wanderings, curiosity led us to the Beta's house. Unlike the dilapidated ruins we had explored earlier, the Beta's house stood relatively intact, its once grand interior now cloaked in a layer of dust. In our exploration, Amira stumbled upon a faded photograph, a precious thing from the past. The image captured Ava’s mother in her youthful glory, cradling a tiny bundle—Ava's younger self and her husband standing beside them. The smiles on their faces told tales of shared happiness and unbreakable bonds– most that got taken away.
Amira's voice was tinted with nostalgia as she reminisced, "I think I recall Ava a bit now. Her long, sleek hair... I used to envy how she adorned it with flowers in her braids."
"Taking this photo with us could be a heartfelt gesture," I suggested, sensing the opportunity to forge a deeper connection with the pack's past.
As we continued to unravel the remnants of history, we discovered a house remarkably free from the ravages of the massacre. Eager to embrace the sun and water, we decided to change into our swim attire. I donned my swim trunks and awaited Amira outside. When the door creaked open, my breath hitched at the sight of her in a black bikini. The snug top accentuated her form in all the right ways, drawing my gaze to her marked skin. A pair of delicate strings dangled at her hips, igniting a surge of desire within me—a sensation akin to unwrapping a cherished gift on Christmas morning.
"Is my choice of bikini to your liking?" Amira queried, lacing her fingers with mine before leading the way. The sand beneath our feet was warm, and the beckoning waves tugged at our spirits.
"Absolutely, Amira," I chuckled, the ocean's melody serenading our footsteps. When we reached the water's edge, a brisk wave playfully lapped at our feet, prompting a fleeting change of heart in Amira. But I wasn't about to let her back down. Scooping her up in my arms, I ventured deeper into the waves, releasing her with a playful grin as her gasps merged with my name.
Amid the laughter and splashes, her reproachful glances dissolved into playful gestures. As we reveled in the sea's embrace, I couldn't resist but take a moment to admire her resilience and spirit. A quick dip beneath the water's surface enlivened my senses, and as I resurfaced, water cascading from my hair, I couldn't help but share my sentiments. "It's incredibly refreshing."
Amira's determination remained unwavering as she swam toward me, our bodies melding beneath the cool waters. As her warmth pressed against mine, I held her close, feeling the rhythmic beat of her heart and the pulse of life that bound us together. A promise glinted in her eyes.
Smiling, I drew her even closer, leaning in to plant a tender kiss on her cheek. "Mark my words, Nikolas. I'll exact my revenge," she vowed with a twinkle in her eye.
With a heartfelt chuckle, I met her gaze. "I look forward to it." Our laughter harmonized with the gentle waves, an ode to the carefree moments we embraced.
Her body nestled against mine, and she grinned impishly. "I love you."
"I love you too," I replied, my voice a soft murmur.
After our refreshing morning at the beach, we headed back to Oceans Howl for lunch. The inviting smell of food greeted us as we stepped into the pack's living area. Lunch was satisfying, filling our bellies with warmth and comfort.
After our meal, Ava and Ace Invited us to join them and the pack for a workout. Amira was especially excited, given her telekinesis that she wanted to practice. It was mostly directed towards her since I didn’t have those powers.
Still with the same excitement as Amira, I followed them. The training area was alive with energy as pack members of all ages gathered to exercise and socialize. It was a lot different than what I was used to. Some groups seemed close off than others, with glares and scowls– I wasn’t sure if it was directed towards Amira or Ava and that didn’t sit well with me.
Amira's eyes lit up with anticipation as we stepped onto the training field. The atmosphere was different, some admired her and supported her whilst others' gaze was enough to make me want to declare war twice this year.
Amira's powers added a unique twist to her workout routine. She was great, I trained her for the most part however the others here, who had trained all their lives had a few more tricks and tips for her that we’d definitely be remembering.
Watching her, I couldn't help but feel proud. Her determination and growth were on full display as she pushed herself through each exercise. Sweat glistened on her skin as she honed her abilities, revealing her commitment to self-improvement.
I on the other hand mostly trained with the rest of those who don’t have powers and mostly kept listening in on their conversation. Something was going on, despite the faking of unity, I could tell there was something hidden beneath, something I wasn’t too sure if Amira and I had something to do with it or if the pack was already like this.
Partner exercises brought us closer together– or that’s the point of it. When the announcement was made the people split into two groups immediately, proving my point that there was no inner unity and I made notes of those who were separated from each other. I’d be going around for information quite soon.
With a nod, Amira signaled for us to team up– yet Ace would find moments here and there to partner with Amira for a few exercises– Amira was caught up with the thrill of it all and she didn’t mind it all. We tackled challenges side by side, our movements naturally falling into sync. Laughter echoed around us as we navigated obstacles together, strengthening our bond through shared experiences. I never did anything like this before but I would certainly be doing this at our kingdom.

After the training session Amira and I went back home to freshen up then ended up going on a mini explore break. It appeared she wanted to double her daily steps by the way she had us walking around today but it was fun to spend time with her without having to worry too much about the kingdom. It was like a mini vacation and we didn’t get those often.
After some exploring we met at the pack’s house for dinner where Ace and Ava were both at the table as well. Dinner was great, and the conversation kept flowing but Ace kept trying to make conversation with Amira constantly. Amira told me I was a little jealous in the past and I wondered if that’s the cause of my distrust in the man.
Once we finished up our meal Ace stood up. “Queen Amira, King Nikolas, will you join us on a walk?” Ace asked with Ava by his side.
"Of course," I replied, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips. I took Amira's delicate hand in mine, our fingers intertwining, and together we followed Ace and Ava as they led the way to the garden.
"Well, I've been giving something a great deal of thought," Ace began, his voice laced with enthusiasm, leaning casually against the white woodwork of a gazebo.
"We're all ears," Amira responded, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"As Ava and I pondered the challenges we face, particularly the influx of survivors from the massacre, an idea started to take shape," Ace explained, his words thoughtful and deliberate. "Ocean Howl's population has swelled, especially with the growing number of telekinesis-wielding wolves joining us. To address this, I propose that we consider expanding our territory to the Ocean Dawn pack lands. We could establish a substantial training base there to accommodate our growing numbers."
Amira's grip on my hand tightened, a surge of excitement passing between us. Her enthusiasm was palpable, but my attention was caught by the subtle expressions that flitted across Ava's face – a hint of disapproval, a trace of skepticism.
"Before we delve deeper, Ava, what was your vision?" I inquired gently, wanting to ensure all perspectives were heard.
“Similar to Ace’s…” Ava hesitated for a moment, her gaze meeting mine and Amira too began to look at me with a puzzling look “What differed?” Amira gave in and inquired.
“Well, Ace wants to occupy–”
“Occupy is harsh,” Ace interrupted her, a glare on his face.
“Well instead of using it in the name of Oceans Howl, I was thinking we could instead rebuild the pack and we will focus more on the academies before creating the training grounds that would come out as a military base,” Ava began to explain and her plan seemed solid though it was still a lot of work. I didn’t trust either idea but this did seem more promising.
“Whilst I loved Ava’s idea, I think there would be issues with appointing a new alpha and such hence why I suggested we just use the grounds with your permission as you’re the only daughter of the former Alpha,” Ace was quick to point out everything wrong.
“The process would be long and tiring indeed and Amira wouldn’t have time to be the Luna of the pack,” I gave my two cents.
“So Ace’s offer seems better?” Amira asked in a whisper, looking at me.
“I think we should discuss it first in private,” I stated. I could tell Ace was trying to dangle everything in front of Amira to make her agree to his plan but I needed to sit down with Amira and look at every aspect. This wasn’t just anything we were dealing with. This deserved our fullest attention and thoughts.
“We shall give you privacy however we don't expect an answer tonight,” Ava smiled and looked over at Ace, cocking her head to motion for him to leave us. When it was only Amira and I. She immediately shifted her focus to me. We’d be discussing this right here and now it appeared and this might be the one time I tell her ‘no’ because something about Ace’s offer didn’t seem right. He is up to something, this offer of his seems rushed and I’m not too sure what he’s being hasty about but he will not drag a kingdom into his mess.
