Chapter 158 Priorities

Chapter 158 Priorities
Zayne's POV

I could finally relax with all the culprits that needed to be caught, now sitting in the dungeon. And Red was feeling much better and was already going around her normal activities with the girls. It felt good, not having to worry about anyone watching her from the shadows.

The door opened and Xavier entered, followed by Tristan. "Alpha.” They greeted, taking their seats.

Xavier was the first to speak up. "Luna Valerie-” he started.

"Drop the title, she doesn't deserve it.” I interrupted and he nodded.

"She's refusing to talk to anyone until she sees you and Alpha Dorian.” He told me, "and I mindlinked him, but he says he couldn't see her now.”

I nodded, it was very much understandable, especially after Tristan told me the state she was in when he found her. Nobody could imagine what he would be going through.

"What are you planning to do with them?” Tristan asked.

"Something that'll make them beg for death instead." I replied, as I pushed myself up from my chair. “By the way, where the hell is Jace?” I asked, realizing I haven't seen him since everything happened. Maybe I did briefly but I couldn't remember.

Xavier chuckled, "he's certain you're going to have his head for letting Luna Alyssa walk into danger.”

I scoffed, "and he thinks hiding from me would stop that from happening?” I asked, shaking my head.

If I didn't know my girl, then I would believe that Jace was capable of keeping her in place, especially when her mind was set on something. And in this case, when Tristan was hurt, if he'd managed to stop her from going, I would be taking notes from him.

“If by the time I get to the dungeon he's not there," I said to no one in particular, “then I'll really consider that."

Tristan bowed his head before excusing himself. He was lucky I was in a good mood.

Xavier and I made our way to the dungeon. Seeing the pack members walk around without any hint of fear written on their faces made a smile appear on my face.

“Now that all of this is finally over, we can finally go ahead with the Luna ceremony." Xavier said.

I nodded, “I can't believe it took this long for her to be given that title officially."

Before he could respond, we got to the dungeon and most of the rogues immediately retreated to the back of their cell. Valerie was alone in her cell and the moment she saw me, she started hitting the door.

“Zayne baby!" She called. I took in her appearance, and even though it had only been two days, she was a shadow of herself. Never in my entire life would I have imagined coming to meet the woman who gave birth to me in the same dungeon she'd ordered people to be thrown in.

“I know you'll come for me." She continued, "this is all a misunderstanding, but no one is listening to me."

“Is cheating on dad also a misunderstanding?" I heard myself ask.

She shook her head, “you don't understand." She replied, “Just let me out of here and I'll explain everything."

"You're not coming out of there,” I told her, my face emotionless. “Not now, and definitely not anytime soon."

She looked at me like I was betraying the trust she had in me when she did that to herself. “You put my Luna in danger and that alone is a death sentence."

“You c-can't do that to your m-mother." She said, “that girl is the reason for all of this. Since she came here, she started plotting to turn us against each other."

I ran a hand through my hair, I couldn't believe how she didn't hear how ridiculous that sounded. "No mom," I started, “you are the reason for all of this. Red has been nothing but perfect and it's time you reap the consequences of your actions."

Without waiting for her to respond, I moved away from her and stood in front of Viktor and Dylan. I made sure they shared a cell because I'm certain they had a lot of catching up to do.

“This isn't going to end here.” Dylan said, groaning slightly. He was still injured from the fight and the wolfsbane in his blood is making it impossible for his wolf to heal him.

I smiled, "Of course not, stepbrother.” I mocked, "it hasn't even started yet, so be patient.”

Lisa, on the other hand, was kept in a separate cell. Being a witch meant ordinary chains weren't enough. Thick silver cuffs wrapped around her wrists, enchanted to suppress her magic. The slightest attempt to cast a spell would only send the pain back to her.

She looked up the moment I stepped inside.

"So..." she smirked weakly. "The mighty Alpha finally came to see me. Where's that mate of yours?”

My hand formed a fist, but my face remained neutral because there was no way I was giving her the reaction she was looking for.

“She’s having the time of her life,” I replied, "something I can assure you you can forget about having…except you consider what's going to happen to you as one.”

The smirk on her lips disappeared. I turned back to leave. As I walked away, Lisa's voice echoed behind me.

"This isn't over!"

I didn't stop walking. "It is for you.”

Glancing over at Valerie's cell one more time, I shook my head. "Don't leave me here, I'm your mother." She called, but I knew giving her a response was a waste of time so I kept going.

“Alpha." Jace greeted once we were out of the dungeon, bowing his head slightly. I hadn't even realized he'd joined us.

My dad appeared in front of me before I could respond. "Dad,” I called. "Are you here to see her?” I asked . His eyes had lost the life in them, and he looked like he hadn't slept for days.

He nodded, “I have a question for her." He replied, “it won't take long."

“Okay, I guess I'll see you later." I told him and watched as he made his way towards the dungeon.

Red was in my office by the time I got there and immediately she saw me, her smile widened. “I see you and your brother-in-law have finally made up.” She grinned.

Xavier snorted, "I'm not sure you can call what they did making up.” He said.

She frowned, “Zayne, you really have to stop threatening people…especially your brother-in-law.”

“Are you planning to keep doing the whole brother-in-law thing?" I asked, scrunching my nose.

She nodded without hesitation, "of course not baby, he's your sister's mate, which makes both of you in-laws." She replied.

I just rolled my eyes and pulled her gently into my arms. “I’m sure you're not here to remind me about the terrible mistake I made of accepting him into the pack.” I told her, but my voice was light. Because as much as I pretended to dislike his relationship with Aileen, there's no denying that he makes her happy which is everything I wanted.

"So I was thinking,” she started, "maybe we can go and see my parents now. We wasted enough time and Mel just returned, she says nothing has changed with my parents.”

"Xavier would make the arrangements.”

She nodded, kissing my lips. "You're the best.” she said, putting a small space between us. “Nyra is going to be so excited…I should go tell her.” And with one last kiss, she was gone.

I looked at the guys, who had gone quiet. "I guess Luna ceremony can come after.”
Xavier smiled. "I figured you'd say that."

I shrugged softly, "Let's take her home first.”
