Chapter 88 Chapter 88: Are You Ready To Go?
LUCIEN'S POV
I wrapped my hands around her, inhaling her sweet scent.
The fact that I had fainted while I told her I was okay embarrassed me.
But it was okay since it happened in her presence. I knew Kieran would try to pull something foul.
I just didn't realize how deep his grudge ran. I had tried to give him a benefit of doubt because of our familial relation but not any more.
Once I was discharged, I would have Jerriq detain him into the palace prison for a while.
That should be warning I could easily erase him from the surface of the earth.
“Do you need water?” Ari asked me, pushing away slightly at my chest.
“I am fine, I just need to hold you in my arms for a while” I mumbled, my hands rubbing at her back.
I had tried to be confident in front of Ari. The thought of her leaving me had plagued me for some reason.
My heart knew she would never do such a thing but my brain…
It seemed like it liked to torture me with things I don't want happening coming as a vision or a dream.
Despite the fact that I just woke up, I felt the steel cold hands of darkness draw me into its depth.
I lowered myself into the bed once more, my hand clutching Ari’s hand in my firmly.
“Don't go anywhere” I mumbled out just as my eyes slipped close.
A heavy dose of pain from the mate bond had me flashing my eyes opened.
I searched for Ari’s figure through my blurry vision but couldn't find her.
Just as I was about to remove the injection inserted into the back of my hand she pushed the door to the room open.
“What happened to you? Are you alright?” I questioned, pulling her into my arms immediately she was within my reach.
“I am fine, don't worry about me” she replied, her voice muffled into my chest.
I pulled back away from her, peering down into her eyes. The pain I had felt from her through the bond wasn't nothing.
“Tell me the truth, Ari” I coaxed, my eyes searching hers.
She opened her mouth just as the door to my hospital room was pushed open.
“Alpha” Jerriq rushed in, his eyes taking through my body before he bowed slightly.
Ari shifted back, clearing her throat as she nodded at Jerriq, a faint smile playing on her lips.
“Jerriq, how did you know I was here?” I questioned absently, my eyes pinned on Ari who sat onto the chair beside my bed.
She was acting off. “I called him to tell him” she replied, not meeting my gaze.
I nodded, settling back into the hospital bed once more.
“Do you have any report for me?” I asked Jerriq.
His eyes flickered at Ari before meeting mine. “You can say whatever it is you want to report” I declared.
My gaze swung to Ari. She didn't seem to have heard what I said at all.
“Lyra was in town today, at…Miss Aria’s workplace to be more specific” Jerriq disclosed.
“Is that true, Ari?” I asked, watching as she jumped slightly in her chair.
“What?” She replied, her eyes bouncing between Jerriq and I.
She really hadn't heard what we had been saying. “Lyra came by to your work place?” I questioned once more.
“Ah, yes she did. I handled her pretty well” she divulged, her eyes flashing.
“Okay” I mumbled out, my eyes taking in her body movement.
“If that is all Jerriq you can leave” I said to him.
“I hope you get well soon, Alpha” he bowed once more before he left my room.
“Are you sure you are all right?” I questioned, my eyes fixed on her slumped shoulders.
“I am. Really, I guess I am just…tired and scared because of what happened to you today” she disclosed.
My eyes narrowed at her but I let her be. For now. I would make sure I discover what it was that caused her so much pain.
“Come on here” I called out to her, my arms spread open.
She let out a teary laugh as she buried her face into my torso.
“It's okay, I would be fine” I reassured her, my hands running up and down a long her back.
She sniffled, her years wetting the hospital gown I was wearing.
A nurse walked into the room then, declaring she needed to take my readings.
I kept my eyes on Ari throughout, watching for any signs that indicated the reason for her pain.
The nurse left, letting us know she would tell the doctor I had regained consciousness.
“Do you think you might get released today?” She blurted out, her eyes shining with what seemed like tears.
I didn't reply, my brows snapping together in a frown.
“Do you not want me to get released today?” I asked, wondering why she had tears in her eyes as she asked the question.
“Of course I want you to be released today” she replied, her gaze resting on the thick bandage wrapped around my midriff.
Her phone rang out then, causing my attention to drop down to it.
“Hello? Okay” she handed the phone to me before she sat beside me.
It was Jerriq. “The palace here has been attacked, numerous werewolves died in the accident” Jerriq reported, anger evident in his tone.
My hand that rested on my lap balled into a fist at his report.
Radiel Krook was baiting me for a war. I couldn't back down, not with the way he is killing my people like chickens.
“Are the men healed?” I questioned. The people I had by my side for the war mattered.
“Most of them are” he replied, his tone suggesting he knew just I wanted to instruct him to do.
“We would search for their base using their pack land as a search route” He added.
“Good, that is our next line of action. I would join you guys on the search” I declared.
A lead should always be found in the thick of things not hanging behind like a coward every time there is fight.
“Are you sure you would be able to join them?” Ari asked once I hung up the call.
“Yes, I am” I had to be.
